there were always strange things happening in new orleans. some would say that the place was pra- ctically built from voodoo and witchcraft and other da- rker things. atticus knew of this strangeness first-hand, but he’d NEVER seen anything like what he’s stumbled upon now. 

                                he did not know how to read, but he heard the                                 word CIRCUS several times among the tight                                 gathering of people ; he didn’t understand what                                 that word meant, but it had the looks and feel of                                 a big fair. he’s snuck into one of those before.

curiosity took the better of him, and atticus used his small size to slip through the crowd unn- oticed. this place gave him an odd feeling along his spine, but he couldn’t stop himself...

there are many things that atticus is AFRAID of. panic-inducing places ( agoraphobia ), dogs, large bodies of water, physical restriction.....and he tends to react and handle those fears like the stray cat he is, which usually entails panic, and the need to get away from it in any way possible. he’s very paranoid and doubtful and on the edge most of the time, and it opens up the possibility of him getting scared by the simplest of things. and depending on the level of fear, he will most likely strike back.

atticus isn’t the kind to bite the hand that feedshim, especially when said hand has yet to give proofof anything less than tender and helpful intentions. wide eyes blink curiously up at mikki’s pale hand asit enters his range of vision, nose tilting slightly to sn-iff the air, nose twitching similar to that of a rabbit, bef-ore lids fall shut when deft fingers slide into his hair.

                                   he pushes up into the inviting petting, a sudden                                   wave of relaxation passing through his bones and                                   setting a shiver down his spine ; and there is no do-                                   ubt he’s purring like a boat motor.
