So maybe you overestimated exactly how much HYBE could help Garam's career and image.
It was a mistake for you to believe that the company would easily be able to make the scandal go away considering how successful it was with some of the biggest K-pop bands in the world under the label. You also were wrong to believe that Bang PD was some sort of fairy godfather who could wave his magic wand and make the whole situation go away. Deep down inside, you deluded yourself into thinking that the situation was something that could easily be fixed. It was your fault, really.
"The only thing we can do for right now is to put out a statement to clear Garam's name. The situation has already blown up and many netizens are demanding an explanation. We'll explain what actions we will take moving forward and see what will happen." Bang PD explained.
He slid over a piece of paper where you and your bandmates were sitting, giving the six of you the chance to read what was going to be put out on the internet. You read it slowly, wishing that HYBE would be more passive-aggressive with it but knew that the tone of the statement could sway what people thought. It was simple, straight to the point, and carefully explained what Source Music and HYBE would be doing.
Hello, this is HYBE.
We would like to inform you about our position regarding the suspicions related to Kim Garam, who is a member of LESSERAFIM, a girl group from Source Music under HYBE.
Since yesterday, there have been accusations made against her on various websites, and we have conducted an internal verification process. The results are as follows:
The recent allegations were cunningly edited to maliciously slander Kim Garam over the events that occurred during the time when she was making friends in the early stages of middle school.
Contrary to the claims, it was confirmed through a third-party statement that Kim Garam was a victim of school bullying, including malicious rumors and cyberbullying, when she was in middle school.
In addition, it was confirmed that the rumors, such as that Kim Garam was a trainee at another agency or that she leaked internal documents, are not true.
We believe that the allegations are maliciously intended to harm the artist who is about to debut, and we inform you that Source Music has taken legal action against the spread of unilateral and distorted allegations and false information related to this case.
Therefore, we sincerely ask you to refrain from speculative reporting based on suspicions that are currently being maliciously raised online.
Furthermore, the allegations that have been raised contain defamation of character against someone who is still a minor who recently made her debut as a celebrity, and we would like to clearly state that we will take legal action without any settlement or leniency.
Thank you.
"Chaewon, Garam, is there anything that should be added or removed? Since Chaewon is the leader and Garam is being accused, I want to be sure that both of you are okay with the statement before it is released."
Chaewon nodded her head. "I think it's good. What do you think, Garam?" She placed her hand on the younger's shoulder, gently squeezing it.
"It looks good," Garam said quietly. "Thank you for doing this. I know idol scandals can get messy, especially ones involving bullying. And thank you for believing me."
Bang PD smiled at her warmly. "Of course, Garam, it's no problem at all. You're a member of HYBE now and we protect our family."
"I do have a question though—will I will be continuing promotions with the group? We just debuted and I would hate it if everybody else's image got ruined because of me."
Hyeongeun gave her a grim look. "We think it's best if you go on a hiatus until the situation is cleared up. As much as we would love for you to be part of being promotions, many fans are upset with the accusations and are demanding that you be removed from the group. If you're still promoting with the rest of the group, a bad image will fall on everybody and we don't want that since you guys just debuted."
Garam knew it would be in vain to hope that she would still be allowed to promote the Fearless EP but there was a sliver that she held onto. The hope that she had was now crushed, alongside the dreams she had of being an idol. She got to be part of the group for about two weeks before the accusations came forward but now it was blatantly obvious that her career was going to end here. All the years she spent as a trainee and preparing to debut with Le Sserafim vanished with the snap of her fingers. She didn't know who was accusing her of such a thing and how a person could come up with such an elaborate story but she was sure that they had been scheming for a while. Surely it wasn't something that somebody came up with overnight.
"I understand." She said quietly.
You patted her back gently, smiling sadly as Garam did her best to return it. The meeting wrapped up within the next few minutes, and the management team dismissed you guys to head back to your dorms. With everything that had gone on within the past two hours, the best thing was for everybody to rest and come to terms with what was going on.
"I think I'm gonna stay here a little longer so I can work on some songs. I'll probably see you guys around dinnertime? Or earlier depending on how productive I can be." You sighed at the mere thought of struggling to help produce a few songs for the future.
"Okay, make sure you come back in time for dinner. I don't want you to come home around midnight again after being trapped in the studio all day." Sakura gave you a side hug.
"Will do, unnie. You can come get me if I'm not back by 5:30."
You bid your goodbyes to your bandmates before getting off on the fourth floor where the studios were located. Le Sserafim was given their own studio once the team was solidified and you were free to use it whenever need be. You didn't have a personal studio and as far as you knew, the only ones who had one were the BTS members. What allowed you to have your own studio in HYBE was unknown to you but you hoped that one day you would have your studio where you could record and produce songs. Producing music was something you recently got into while the Fearless EP was in the works and the producers taught you how to start creating your own music. It was difficult at first but now you were producing a song for Yunjin and got permission to help with the next EP.
There was nothing more satisfying than putting in the code for the studio and hearing the music that played after you unlocked the door. You grinned to giddily, nodding your head before stepping into the studio and shutting the door behind it. You immediately locked the door before collapsing into the seat in front of the mixtable.
You scooted closer to log into the computer, placing the headphones provided by HYBE on your head. You turned Do Not Disturb on your phone and immediately began working, pulling up Yunjin’s song that she had written since the lineup for Le Sserafim was announced.
It was a song that she wrote for the two of you and the other Fimmies, describing what the seven of you went through as trainees, leading up to joining Le Sserafim, and finally debuting. It commemorates the journey that you all had gone through, the struggles and success told by Yunjin.
“It’s a story about us.” She explained shyly as you skimmed the lyrics.
You were the first person Yunjin turned to after she began writing the song, seeking advice about the lyrics and production of the song. She was nervous that you would judge and find the song stupid, but you absolutely loved it.
“I want to celebrate our journey of being trainees and part of Le Sserafim. It’s an oath to everything we’ve been through together.”
I don't know what I'd be doin' without you You love who I am 'Cause I don't care as long as I'm with you I'll reach for your hand In this ugly world where the color is fading You're beautiful in every color and shade, I Don't know if you drink But raise a glass to the past in thе story of us
"Unnie, this is so good." You gaped. "You wrote this all by yourself?"
Yunjin nodded her head. "Yeah, I've been writing this for the past few months."
"Daebak, you're a really good songwriter." You read over the lyrics again, unable to stop a smile from forming across your face. "I'm going to cry when you finish your song."
Blood rushed to Yunjin's cheeks as a wide grin formed across her face. "I hope you're sobbing by the time it's done."
Neither of you knew whether or not Source Music was going to allow Yunjin to release it anytime soon since Le Sserafim just debuted but you worked on the song nevertheless. As soon as Yunjin got the green light, she wanted to release the song immediately so you were working hard on it just in case it would be released sooner than either of you thought.
You were cooped up in the studio for about three hours before finally leaving the studio to take a break. A dull ache settled in your temple about half an hour prior and slowly started to become a headache. If you stared at the computer any longer, you were sure to get a migraine. You sluggishly walked down the hall in search of the bathroom as a well-overdue bathroom break was needed.
After using the bathroom, you headed back toward the Le Sserafim recording studio, walking much slower than you did earlier. The personal studios of the Bangtan members caught your eye, lingering around each door to observe the outside of it. There wasn't much to see considering that only the names of their studio were next to the door but you still stared at each one, wondering what the inside looked like from a first-person perspective. You had only seen their studios in pictures and videos, but neither was the same as witnessing them in real life.
You stood in front of the Genius Lab, analyzing the door as if some sort of code was waiting to be cracked. Yoongi was one of the people you wanted to produce a song with after having heard his incredible producing skills. After listening to That That and learning that Yoongi produced it made you want to talk to him more to gain more skills about how to produce your own skills. Admittedly, you fell into a rabbit hole about him a couple nights back after clicking on link after link and found out about his whole life story along the way.
"Imagine being called The Hand of Midas." You sighed enviously. "That's the coolest nickname to have."
"What are you doing outside of my studio?'
You snapped your head up in alarm, stepping back when you noticed that you were face to face with Yoongi. You gasped, stumbling backward before apologizing profusely. "I'm so sorry, I was looking at the outside of everybody's studios and got caught up in my thoughts. I'm sorry."
Yoongi stared at you in amusement, keeping his mouth shut as you rambled on. He wanted to see how long you would apologize and explain yourself before realizing he wasn't mad at you for standing outside his door. If anything, he was glad that you were the one who sought after him first, even if it was unknowingly.
"Please don't be mad at me." You squeaked out.
Much to your surprise, Yoongi began chuckling, his eyes crinkling as his chuckles turned into laughs. You laughed along too, albeit more nervously, eyeing him as he continued to laugh for a reason you didn't know.
"Haha...why are we laughing?"
"I'm not mad at you, Y/N. Quite the opposite, actually."
"Really?"
Yoongi moved aside and gestured for you to walk into his studio. You slowly walked in, wondering if you had fallen into some sort of trapped as you observed his studio. It was quite large, bigger than the studio he had back at the BigHit building. The room was scarcely decorated, almost little to no decorations hanging on the walls. Despite the blank walls, his studio seemed crowded with the giant speakers that took up most of his desk and the large TV that as mounted on the wall in front of it. Genius Lab truly looked like a musician’s studio.
“You are single-handedly responsible for all of the pollution in the environment.”
You eyed the water bottles that were gathered on the corner of his desk, counting at least a dozen. Yoongi grimaced, grabbing a handful before tossing them into the trash. He slid himself between you and his desk, giving you a smile to distract you from the embarrassing amount of empty bottles. He gestured for you to take a seat on the couch, sitting down at his desk himself.
"So what are you doing on this floor? I haven't seen you or the rest of your group here once." Yoongi leaned back in his seat, placing his hands behind his head.
"I'm in a nearby studio working on some songs." You answered.
At the mention of making songs, Yoongi immediately perked up and sat up straight again. You quickly followed his actions, alarmed that you said something offensive with your answer.
On the contrary, Yoongi seemed quite excited that you made your own songs. As far as he knew, there weren't that many junior groups who produced their own music but that also could be because he doesn't talk to any group outside of Tomorrow X Together. He was eager to talk to you about you knew and even wanted to teach you the ropes if you didn't know much. It wasn't often that he taught other people about producing music and he wanted you to be his first (and only) protégé.
"You produce songs?" Yoongi asked.
"Sometimes..." You trailed off.
You remained vague with your answers, fearing that he would ask to listen to some of the songs you were working on and quite frankly, that was the last thing you wanted. While it was far-fetched that he would care about your song production, you were still afraid that he would want to listen. You would rather jump off of a bridge then let the Min Yoongi listen to your half-finished songs.
"I just started learning though so I have a long way to go before I can start producing good songs." You quickly added.
"I can teach you a few tips and tricks that can go a long way." Yoongi offered.
You immediately shook your head. "No, it's okay. I'm sure you're too busy with your own songs. Thank you though." Of course, you were grateful that Yoongi was even offering to teach you how to produce songs but he also had much better things to do than give you a one-on-one lesson. You didn't want to waste his time when he could do something that was more productive.
"Too busy for you? Never." Yoongi pulled up a new file much to your shock, naming it 'Y/N' before you could stand up to stop him.
Defeatedly, you settled down in the chair that he pulled up to his desk. scooting a bit closer but still remaining a respectful distance. Yoongi, however, had a different idea and grabbed the arm of your chair to roll you closer to him. He pushed you forward so that you were right in front of his desk, settling his arm on your chair. You pressed your lips together at the proximity, choosing to ignore how half of his body managed to be pressed up against yours and instead focus on the computer screen. Wasn't this the man who seemed to hate touching other people?
Unsurprisingly, Yoongi was great at teaching you the basic of producing music. He explained everything at a kindergarten level, speaking slowly so you could understand all of the technical terms he was using. If there was any confusion, he happily explained anything over again and wouldn't move on until you convinced that yes, you understood the second time around and no, a third explanation was unnecessary. It was fun creating your own song with Yoongi, playing around with different beats and rhythms before adding instruments in the background to your liking.
"Oh wow, it's already six." Yoongi sighed, as he checked the time on his phone.
"Six?"
Your eyes widened, realizing that you overstayed yet again at HYBE. You were supposed to be home by now but had gotten too caught up with Yoongi that you didn't notice how fast time had flown by. "I have to go home right now."
"Is there something you need to do?" Yoongi asked with furrowed eyebrows.
"No, I just promised my bandmates that I would be home by 5:30 before they left HYBE so I could be back in time for dinner."
You unlocked your phone, clicking on your notifications to see that the others had spammed you in the group chat but stopped texting five minutes ago when Chaewon assumed that you got caught up in the studio. They simply told you to come back soon and not to forget to eat dinner before ending the conversation. You frowned, feeling. guilty that you had neglected the group chat and that they waited for you to come home in vain.
"What's with the long face, angel?" There was an identical frown on Yoongi's face, his mood dampening when he saw your face drop as you scrolled through your phone. "Did your bandmates say something?"
You ignored his displeased tone, tossing your phone onto the desk before leaning back in your seat. "No, they just told me to not to forget to eat dinner and that they would see me later tonight"
"It's alright, it's only one dinner you're missing." Yoongi patted your head comfortingly.
"I know, it's just that we're going through some problems right now and I wanted to be there for dinner after everything that's happened over the past few days." You sighed, unconsciously leaning further into Yoongi's touch.
He hid his smile before pouting, doing his best to sympathize with you. He was pleased to know that Garam's bullying scandal had taken the internet by storm just like how he and the other members wanted to. In a matter of minutes, her career came crashing down and there were thousands of people calling for her removal from Le Sserafim. Even with the statements HYBE and Source Music were inevitably going to release, there was no coming back for Kim Garam. Jungkook and Taehyung made sure to hire enough of her former classmates and pay them a handsome amount of money to keep their mouths shut. The young students were more than happy to play along with Bangtan's desire to ruin Garam's career when they saw the money that was being offered. It amazed them how cruel and ugly people could be but it gave them all the more of a reason to take you in and protect you from people like Garam's classmates.
"Oh, I heard about the scandal with Garam." Yoongi cautiously treaded, careful not to upset you with the wrong words.
"Who hasn't?" You mumbled.
"I'm sure HYBE and Source Music has everything under control, Y/Nie. After all, you guys are under the most powerful corporation in South Korea. Her scandal can be brushed under the rug and forgotten in no time. Don't worry too much and let them do all of the work."
Yoongi wrapped his arm around your waist, pulling you into a hug. You tensed for a second, causing Yoongi to almost pull away but you leaned back, letting his arm drape around you. Despite the uncomfortable position from both of your chairs being between the two of you, you turned your head to place your chin on his shoulder before letting out a frustrated huff. Now, Yoongi normally wasn't an affectionate person and rarely initiate physical touch but he immediately caught on with how you liked it. If being affectionate was how he could get you to soften your heart towards him, then so be it. He was willing to take full advantage.
Yoongi chuckled, amused and endeared at how even your anger was innocent and childlike. Here you were, willingly sitting in the arms of one of the men who was the reason behind your precious bandmate and best friend was going to be kicked out of Le Ssearfim and never seen again. "Do you wanna get dinner so you can take your mind off of things? I know a great jajangmyeon and jjamppong nearby here." He suggested.
You pulled away from his embrace, nodding your head excitedly at the mention of food. The mere thought of eating made your stomach growl. You were excited to get out of HYBE and eat to your heart's content after unintentionally starving yourself all day. "Yes, please."
Yoongi chuckled, ruffling your hair before leading you out of his studio. Seeing the way you accepted his comfort without a second thought despite walking on eggshells around him since you first met made him realize how easily he could sink his claws into you during moments of vulnerability. You sought comfort from anybody who could provide it and as long as he or the other members were around, there was no doubt that you would fall into their trap.

“You don’t mind if Namjoon joins us for dinner, do you?”
“Namjoon sunbaenim?”
You gulped, suddenly nervous about having dinner. You had only just gotten comfortable with Yoongi after being stuck in Genius Lab with him for two hours and you were still a bit uneasy around him. Surely you wouldn’t be able to sit through a dinner with him and Namjoon.
"I won't ask him if you don't want me to," Yoongi quickly added, noticing your discomfort. "It can just be the two of us."
"No, it's okay if he comes. I don't mind."
You and Yoongi had barely sat down yet you felt like you had indigestion. You mentally notes to ask the waiter for your own jug of water when he came back with your food. Drinking a copious amount of water was the only way you were going to be able to get your food down.
Yoongi gave you a skeptical look but he simply nodded, pulling out his phone to send Namjoon a text. You looked away before taking a big gulp of water, cursing yourself for willingly agreeing to have dinner with your senior. It was your fault, really, and you knew you could blame nobody but yourself. Sometimes you wished that you had the courage to say no whenever you were put in an uncomfortable situation but the people-pleaser in your refused to let you. Especially when the said people you were trying to please were your extremely famous, extremely popular, extremely successful seniors.
Namjoon showed up at the restaurant much sooner than you anticipated. He had been in his own studio just down the hall at the same time you and Yoongi were so the trek took less than ten minutes, which was not enough time to prepare for his appearance. You smiled tightly at him, settling with a simple wave before listening to him and Yoongi talk about what to eat. They stared at the menu for quite a while, arguing about what to order and which dish was the best. You remained silent, allowing them to decide for you what to eat since you didn't have the heart to tell them what you wanted.
"Do you prefer jajangmyeon or jjamppong?"
You snapped your head up to see both of them staring at you intently, the menu still in their hands. It took you a second to realize that they were speaking to you, blinking rapidly before you cleared your throat. "Um, I'm fine with either."
"Would be okay with sharing a few dishes?" Namjoon asked. "That way you can try more than one thing."
"Sure, that's good with me."
Namjoon couldn’t help but smile at your shy nature, his eyes crinkling as his dimples poked out. You stared up at him, curious as to why he began smiling out of nowhere. Your eyes were round and wide, full of wonder and innocence that it made Namjoon's heart lurch. He wondered how somebody as pure as you got herself tangled up in the idol industry, where you would surely encounter the exhaustion, pain, and abuse of being a plaything for the public. Whenever he saw you, the same overwhelming urge to protect you always washed over him to the point where he felt like he was drowning. Namjoon was aware that he had felt a strong attraction towards you, for reasons he didn't know. He was also aware that the other members felt the same way too and it was the first time they were growing attached to the same person.
Over the years, Namjoon watched a handful of people, men and women alike, come and go, whether it be a long-term relationship or simply a fling. But their attraction never became an obsession, and they never grew so attached to somebody so quickly. Namjoon knew it was wrong to become obsessed with a girl much younger than him, especially one who was his junior. But he couldn't bring himself to care, as did the other members.
And that was perhaps the scariest part of this newfound infatuation.
“So, Y/N, I heard you recently got into producing music.”
You turned to look at Yoongi with a betrayed expression, but he simply shrugged his shoulders. What else was he supposed to say when Namjoon asked why the two of you were getting dinner together?
“Yeah, it’s something really new so I’m not that good at it.” You began. “But Yoongi sunbaenim taught me some new tips and tricks on how to improve my producing skills.”
“Yoongi oppa.” Yoongi corrected.
“Yoongi oppa.” You repeated. You then sighed, gritting your teeth as you stared him down. “This obsession with being called oppa is an epidemic, a disease even. It’s ridiculous.”
“Wait, who else has asked you to call him oppa?” Namjoon asked.
“Jungkook and Mingyu.”
Namjoon wasn’t surprised that Jungkook wanted you to call him oppa. In fact, he loved it when girls called him that. But Mingyu? He assumed you were talking about Kim Mingyu from Seventeen since he was best friends with Jungkook but Namjoon had no idea you were friends with him as well. “I didn’t know you were friends with Mingyu.”
“Not friends, just acquaintances.” You smiled tightly. “We had a conversation at the party last week and he was drunk out of his mind. He probably doesn’t even remember what he said let alone remember that he talked to me.”
“Drunk?”
You looked at him and Yoongi weirdly, noticing how they appeared to be miffed by your explanation. "Yes, drunk. Have you never encountered a drunk person?"
"No, we're just surprised that you saw him at a party." Namjoon chuckled to the best of ability, trying to hide the irritation that was seeping through him.
"He came to the Le Ssearfim debut party. It wasn't at some some party." You mumbled defensively. Though you didn’t know why you felt the need to defend yourself and Mingyu in the first place seeing as it wasn’t either of their business in the first place. "Anyways, what were you going to say about producing songs?"
They narrowed their eyes at the change of topic but played along. The last thing they wanted was to upset you when you were starting to become comfortable with them. Namjoon smiled at you, asking questions about what you learned from Yoongi and what songs you were working on. As you excitedly talked about how you were going to help with producing the next EP for Le Sserafim, Namjoon and Yoongi exchanged looks that said one thing:
Keep an eye on Kim Mingyu.
