Marius: Let us be just, my friends! What a splendid destiny for a nation to be the Empire of such an Emperor, when that nation is France and when it adds its own genius to the genius of that man! To appear and to reign, to march and to triumph, to have for halting-places all capitals, to take his grenadiers and to make kings of them, to decree the falls of dynasties, and to transfigure Europe at the pace of a charge; to make you feel that when you threaten you lay your hand on the hilt of the sword of God; to follow in a single man, Hannibal, Caesar, Charlemagne; to be the people of some one who mingles with your dawns the startling announcement of a battle won, to have the cannon of the Invalides to rouse you in the morning, to hurl into abysses of light prodigious words which flame forever, Marengo, Arcola, Austerlitz, Jena, Wagram! To cause constellations of victories to flash forth at each instant from the zenith of the centuries, to make the French Empire a pendant to the Roman Empire, to be the great nation and to give birth to the grand army, to make its legions fly forth over all the earth, as a mountain sends out its eagles on all sides to conquer, to dominate, to strike with lightning, to be in Europe a sort of nation gilded through glory, to sound athwart the centuries a trumpet-blast of Titans, to conquer the world twice, by conquest and by dazzling, that is sublime; and what greater thing is there?"
Les Amis:

My pronunciations of the names of the Amis de l'ABC.
“Les Personnages de Les Misérables
Les Amis de l'ABC
Enjolras Combeferre Jean Prouvaire Jehan Courfeyrac Bahorel Feuilly Grantaire R Joly Laigle/Lesgle Bossuet Marius Pontmercy”
Source: Native French speaking self. You can blame Victor Hugo and the French language for all the French r’s.

page 4 of the feuilly thing! bonus appearance of Enjolras and Courfeyrac!
Pages 1, 2, and 3 here.
Sorry the handwriting is small and messy: (Panel 1) He was nimble with his fingers. (Panel 2) He spoke quietly to the other workers. (Panel 3) He took his lunch outside (Panel 4) and occasionally met with friends.

Pages 1, 2, and 3; Page 4
(Panel 1) The day before, I’d heard him talking with another worker, a bearded, middle-aged man. (Panel 2) “Will you?” (Panel 3) “I have a family.”

When Marius Pontmercy walks into the Musain--

“There were rumors. It was spring, when the young man had disappeared. And we were workers, after all. He had seemed so quiet, but his eyes were strikingly intense.”
Pages 1, 2, and 3; Page 4; Page 5

Page 7!!
“None of us would have put it past him to have been on the Rue de la Chanvrerie that day.”
(My first time actually drawing the barricade; why is it so hard to draw piles of things??)

It’s finally done!!! This has... been a very long project, but I’m pretty proud of it, and Feuilly deserves nothing less.
I know the writing is probably hard to read; text under the cut.
(1.1) Work at the factory wasn’t too bad. (1.2) The pay was decent, at least. Not enough for luxuries, sure, but enough to live off of. (1.3) The work itself, too. There were worse jobs. (1.4) And the people there were nice enough. (2.1) The woman with five children who never had time to join us for drinks. (2.2) The older man who worked three times as quickly as anyone else and never said a word. (2.3) The harrowed young girl who quickly took her pay (2.4) ...and slowly learned to smile. (3.1) The young man who disappeared. (3.2) I only vaguely remember him. I never asked his name, never looked at his face... (3.3) I regret it. (4.1) He was nimble with his fingers. (4.2) He spoke quietly to the other workers. (4.3) He took his lunch outside (4.4) and occasionally met with friends. (5.1) The day before, I’d heard him talking with another worker, a bearded, middle-aged man. (5.2) “Will you?” (5.3) “I have a family.” (6.1) There were rumors. (6.2) It was spring, when the young man had disappeared. (6.3) And we were workers, after all. (6.4) He had seemed so quiet, but his eyes were strikingly intense. (7.1) None of us would have put it past him to have been on the Rue de la Chanvrerie that day. (8.1) The bearded man came to the factory as usual. (8.2) Guilt flickered in his eyes at the empty seat, but he said nothing. (8.3) I kept working. (9.1) Some days I remember the young man who disappeared, and wonder if I could’ve done anything for his cause. (9.2) But most days, it is my hungry family that I think of.

Obligatory Les Mis lineup

oh dang it’s the boys (inspired by that one post about New Romanticism and also just the general existence of Les Miserables The 1980s Musical)
[ID: Digital drawing of Enjolras, Combeferre, and Courfeyrac dressed in clothing reminiscent of the New Romantic movement or their costumes in the stage musical, all posing dramatically against a colorful background. End ID.]

Nous voulons faire la lumière Malgré le masque de la nuit Pour illuminer notre terre Et changer la vie
the boys!! they’re here!! (a few days late for Barricade Day, yes, but here all the same!)
[ID: A digital drawing of all Les Amis and Gavroche, facing forward in a cluster. Enjolras is holding a large red flag that covers one corner of the drawing. Both Feuilly and Gavroche have their fists raised in the air, and all are smiling. End ID.]

Happy Barricade Day!
[ID: A digital drawing in shades of brown of Les Amis de l’ABC, Éponine, Gavroche, and Père Mabeuf standing behind or climbing over the barricade. Mabeuf is holding the flag, and there is a fire burning in the background. The next four images are closeups on different parts of the drawing. End ID.]

Children of the barricade who didn’t last the night

Disco dancing at the barricades :)
Apparently La Marseillaise was sung on the barricades during the 1830s
"The day will come, citizens, when all will be concord, harmony, light, joy and life; it will come, and it is in order that it may come that we are about to die.”
Barricade Day 2024
Amis appear in order of their deaths.
