opinion on lizards?
(can I be đ anon?)
okay so, my house has a gazillion of them. Like different variety. Beige colour to ochre yellow to dark brown. Some are tiny like so tiny u canât see them. Some look like crocodiles. Some look like dinosaurs â ď¸. The one in the kitchen has adapted to the colour of the kitchen floor (very brown). Theyâre everywhere. If you see the living room at midnight, youâll see them chilling on the sofa (no cap) i think they decide on their weekly shifts, as to who will settle under which photo, whose room should they shit in , etc.
I donât mind them.
(Yes you can be đanon!)

Hard to believe sheâs real sometimes!
very cool

Meet Uroplatus garamaso, a new leaf-tailed gecko from Madagascar!

Uroplatus garamaso are absolute masters of camouflage. During the day, they rest with their heads down and fringes expanded, rendering them practically invisible. Here, I have revealed the outline of the gecko against the tree trunk. As you can imagine, that makes them pretty difficult to spot in the wild.
Fortunately, at night, they wake up and prowl the branches, and can often be found up to a few metres off the ground hunting for invertebrates.

This remarkable gecko has been known about for over 20 years, and has even been in the pet trade for well over a decade. But only now have we finally amassed enough information on it to be able to formally describe it and give it a name. The trouble was that it is extremely similar to Uroplatus henkeli, which is also found nearby. The key to distinguishing them turned out to be the colour of the eye, and the tip of the tongue, which is pink in U. garamaso (left), and blackish in U. henkeli (right).

These geckos open their mouths as a warning signal, so looking at this feature is quite easy. But we are not sure why the mouth colour so often differs between species. Some more behavioural studies are needed.
The new species was described on 15 August 2023 in the Open Access journal Salamanadra. You can read the paper here.

So as we have seen lizards in two of our new posters, my dumb brain wanted to theorize about symbolism I didnât do any research just exasperated on prior knowledge so feel free to correct me. In ancient mythos, salamanders were believed to be able to withstand fire. This depiction is most famous in modern culture through the usage of salamanders in Fahrenheit 451. We can also see lizards have been seen as evil things. This symbolism is used in Paradise Lost a novel on lucifers fall from Grace. The final thing I would like to add, is that in the Bible and the Torah, the snake that seduces Eve wasnât our traditional depiction of a snake, until after G-d had caught them, and their legs were removed as a punishment, and that they should always rive on the ground, so as we see Gaiman has rumored us finding out where exactly angels and Demons come from. I wonder will this aspect of Genesis be a part of what a divine creature was like before the proverbial fall or should I say sauntering vaguely downwards?
