Book Review: Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie

Rating: ⭐️⭐️.5
I wanted to like this book. I really did! I tried really really hard to enjoy it, after that disaster of an audible, original imposter. There were parts that I really really did enjoy. Most of those parts are the bits that I recognized from the old Mary Martin Peter Pan from 1960. My dad got us the VHS tape and my sister and I watched that nonstop. It was one of our regulars.
(If you want to see it for yourself, I found the entire thing on YouTube HERE. It’s a great time!)
However, there were bits that I did not enjoy. Most of those bits involved, the boy himself, Peter Pan.
I knew going in that this had been written quite long ago, and that there were some bits that are… No longer PC so to speak. I know that the “Indians” in the book are always a big issue for people who read this book, and it didn’t bother me so much. Except that there was this one, but that didn’t bother me. I’m going to put the screenshot of the text and then put it down” below this, so you can see it. I’m sure I don’t need to explain why this bugged me.

“Me Tiger Lily,” that lovely creature would reply. “Peter Pan save me, me his velly nice friend. Me no let pirates hurt him.”
Yeah… The portrayal in the Disney Peter Pan is pretty bad. The portrayal in the 1960 musical that I enjoy is not the greatest. Both of them improved on this. Good grief.

Today we had a discussion at work about where to go for our work trip and I jokingly said Disney World because I so want to built a lightsaber (it's out of question because I live in Europe). And the middle-aged collegues were like "How old are you again?" We thought about another amusement park nearer by and some collegues said "No, we're too old for rollercoasters".
One of my collegues only allows herself one piece of candy a day and would never go to McDonalds.
All over 40 collegues look amused and a bit confused when I talk about teen books like Lockwood and Co, Harry Potter and Percy Jackson.
I had a Peter Pan moment and thought:"I never want to be that adult."
Got any hc for Tiger Lily x Lampwick in your au?
A few, I think they met after Tiger Lily came to Auradon with Peter Pan when Beast was trying to join all the kingdoms and lands together, they became friends, they started dating when they were 16. Alexander in their oldest child and he wasn't planned, they were 21-22 when Tiger Lily got pregnant, about four years later they had, Tiger Peony. When they got married, they had both the kids as parts in the ceremony. I imagine that they'd be the cool young parents, who everyone got along with. Tiger Lily is a fashion designer, and Lampwick owns a restaurant.
I never thought of this but I love it
