summary: Hybrids were accepted in society to a certain degree. To some, they are for entertainment. Used as sex and money tools. To lock up and abuse whenever and however they please. Something to have control over. To others, they are companions. Just like regular animals are used for therapy or simply companionship, hybrids are too.
To the rest, they are just like everyone else. Someone with their own life who deserves the same freedoms as your everyday John or Jane Doe. Wren is one of these people. She hates the idea of owning a hybrid. She has nothing against those who own them for medical or companionship reasons. Just the rest.
But, when a ragtag pack of seven mismatched hybrids somehow ends up in the woods behind her home, she takes them in and does the one thing she never thought she would do. Own them. But, she also does something she didn’t even think was possible. She fell in love with each and every one of them.

The entire house was dark except for some nightlights you had plugged in just in case one of the kids woke up in the middle of the night. The house was tidy, everyone was asleep, and you were finally able to rest yourself. All the presents were wrapped and placed under the tree for the next day, but you were sad to be spending this Christmas without Namjoon. He’d been traveling for some months now, and even though he promised to see you soon, the dates kept getting extended.

The weather is unusually mild for this time of year, something that Viktor is silently thankful for.
The summers can be unbearable, the heat stifling, and the dust lying in a thin layer on just about everything in his clinic.
Today, however, it’s mild - the sun hidden by an abundance of clouds in the sky and the heat chased away by a cool breeze that flows through the open windows.
Viktor sighs as he shifts in his stool, scribbling down the name of another salve on the shelf in front of him.
Inventory.
A task that most people hate but he finds soothing. Cataloguing, counting, and labeling various medications, salves and other items necessary for one’s health and healing. Surgical supplies too - something he notes he’s running low on after a larger band of vaqueros had come through the town earlier this week.
His lips quirk upwards at the memory, the large group of companions reminding him of his very own vaquero who’s away on a longer cattle drive.
Jayce.
He still remembered when the large cowboy had stumbled into his clinic, barely standing if not for the two men supporting him on either side. All of them spewing Spanish, a language he just barely had a grasp on at the time.
