The salt air stings my nose. I see him in the lake, shirt off, splashing in the water. He waves at me to join him, and I just shake my head and smile. Looking down at my feet, I suddenly feel water drip onto my bare thighs. I look up, and I see him. Percy. He holds a hand out to me. I take it as he helps me off the sandy ground. “Swim with me,” he says, a smile on his face as he interlocks his fingers with mine. I sigh and agree as he drags me to the water.

We splash and play in the lake for what feels like hours. The sun starts to set, and I look out to the horizon to admire the beauty of the sunset, pinks, and purples painting the sky. “It's beautiful,” I quietly say. “It is,” he responds. But I know he's not looking at the sunset; I can feel his eyes on me. I turn my head to him, and he leans down, connecting our lips. I can't help but think I want this to last forever.

Will you call when you're back at school?

August slipped away into a moment in time

As August comes to an end, I have to say goodbye. Not just to camp and to my friends at summer home but to him. At the top of the hill, I feel a hand slip into mine. I don't have to look to see who it is. I've felt this hand in mine all summer long. “Ill see you next summer, right?” I hear him say. “of course,” I say, turning to look at him and grabbing his empty hand with mine. I look up at him with sad eyes. “Will you call?” I say hope, filling every word I say. “Every day,” he replies with a smile. I feel a smile creeping onto my face at his words. He takes one of his hands and places it on my cheek, pulling my lips to his.

Cause it was never mine.

And I can see us twisted in bedsheets

Life without being at camp is hard, but life without Perry is even harder. I hear my phone ring. He called just like he said he would. I answer. “Hey, Perry,” I say, and he responds the same way. We talked for hours, and I think it might not be so bad this year.

Cancel plans just in case you'd call And say, "Meet me behind the mall."

I get a call from Percy. It's the first time he's called all week, but I try not to worry. We talk about school and how we can't wait for summer again; he seems off. “Is everything ok?” I asked as concern laced my words. “yeah, I'm fine; hang on, Annabeth is calling me. I'll call you back,” Annabeth said. “ok,” I responded, slightly disappointed. He tells me goodbye and hangs up the phone, not giving me a chance to respond.

I sit on my bed and think about her. I've always been jealous of her perfect skin, hair, and smarts. Are Percy and I dating? No. But that doesn't mean I like him hanging up on me for pretty girls.

He stopped calling and much. I get a call once a week. It makes me sad, but maybe he’s busy. I try to push away the thoughts of having something to do with her.

He's stopped calling, but camp is right around the corner. I hope he talks to me there. I'm nervous to see him again, to see those eyes that make me swoon and those curls I can remember running my hands through. I relive those memories constantly, just waiting for next summer when we can make more like those.

He's with her, holding her hand, laughing with her. I see them from the top of the hill, im angry and I'm sad, but I'm betrayed. He even looks at me, and he smiles. He smiles at me. I feel someone next to me, and I look over at who it is. Grover, he's looking down at them. “They cute, right?” I respond with a week, yes. “They've been dating since camp ended last year.” I feel my heart sink into my chest. “Oh,” I meekly say. All I can do is remember and get lost in the memories.

But do you remember?

Remember when I pulled up and said, "Get in the car."
