quiz: smell of your soul — yiuno.

Quiz: Smell Of Your Soul Yiuno.

Coffee.

Keywords: intelligent, old soul, complex. You are an extremely thoughtful individual with a creative mind and loving heart. Being around you is like sinking into a warm bath. There’s something truly wise about the advice you give others; being in your presence leaves others feeling warm, reassured, and inspired. Compatible with: coffee, candle smoke, freshly baked bread.

link to quiz.

Quiz: Smell Of Your Soul Yiuno.

This result is clearly to no one’s surprise; it’s public knowledge by now that Yiuno is a huge caffeine addict. Y’shtola has commented that she knows he’s around whenever her nose picks up the aroma of coffee. Even the keywords are perfect for Yiuno—I can’t think of anything less to describe this old man bunny.

The description, however, I feel like that fits Y’shtola better than Yiuno. Some of you might disagree with me, seeing that the cat mom doesn’t behave as intimately as the other Scion members towards WoL in the MSQ, but I can totally relate to her—I’m quite similar to her when I socialize with others.

It’s even harder for Yiuno to show his soft side, given his background and professions. Perhaps he’d open up to people who have managed to earn his trust, which could take a very long time to reach. After all, he’s an immortal, and he’s got all the time in the world.

Quiz: Smell Of Your Soul Yiuno.

Thank you for tagging me, @starrysnowdrop! ’Twas a fun quiz, and I quite enjoyed it (´∀`)

When I first saw this question popping up on my dash, I really wanted to answer it. I love AU ideas, and it really got me thinking about the what-ifs to my muses if their circumstances had been different. Fast forward, this post had been sitting in my draft folder for weeks—that was when the realization finally hit me.

My blorbos are probably far more complicated than I thought they'd be. (Yiuno, especially.)

Anyroad, after going through all the NPCs I can think of, here are the results!

When I First Saw This Question Popping Up On My Dash, I Really Wanted To Answer It. I Love AU Ideas,
When I First Saw This Question Popping Up On My Dash, I Really Wanted To Answer It. I Love AU Ideas,
When I First Saw This Question Popping Up On My Dash, I Really Wanted To Answer It. I Love AU Ideas,

Sora — Alisaie, Zenos.

FOR BETTER: Sora and Alisaie get along very well—they share a lot of similarities, such as their temperamental personality, and their eagerness to take active actions. If circumstances had been better, Sora could've been living a relatively comfortable life—guided by wise and caring mentors, surrounded by friends and comrades sharing the same cause. While Alisaie did go through some hardships (mainly in Shadowbringers and Endwalker MSQ), she's still better off than Sora in many aspects.

Sora, on the other hand, is a remnant of an ancient civilization, who is neither here nor there as she has no recollection of her past, struggling to come to terms with the present (and later on, her destiny as the Warrior of Darkness). Her mentor and guardian isn't someone you'd consider a role model—Yiuno is a manipulative liar, he assassinates people for a living, and he's a selfish bastard. Speaking of which...

FOR WORSE: Sora and Zenos are frenemies, in a way (Zenos would probably consider her a "friend" in a similar fashion like his relationship with WoL, but Sora absolutely hates him). Both of them crave for strong opponents to sate their bloodlust; they also have no qualms to destroy anything and everything in their way to relieve their urge for a good fight.

The only saving grace, I'd say, is Yiuno effectively having Sora on a leash and preventing her from going completely out of control. As much as Sora is a chaotic mess when left to her own devices, at least she still listens to her one and only "family".

Yiuno — Thancred, Hades/Emet-Selch.

I really mean it whenever I say that Yiuno is a complex character—he isn't someone I can simply shove into a handful of TV tropes and call it a day. After pondering really hard for weeks, these two picks are probably the best I could go with.

FOR BETTER: Both Yiuno and Thancred have many aspects in common. They are adult figures to a younger charge under their wing (Yiuno to Sora, Thancred to Ryne). They both struggled to make peace with losing someone dear to them (Yiuno to his twin sister, Yiuna, Thancred to his "sister", Minfilia). They are also resourceful and well-versed in reconnaissance, with a dark past they aren't proud of.

Though they are guided by well-known figures that changed their respective lives forever, that's where I draw the line on the similarities between them. When Thancred attempted to pickpocket Louisoix and was caught red-handed, the latter offered him the opportunity to hone his skills in survival and intelligence-gathering techniques. Thancred then became an Archon and joined the Circle of Knowing, later also as a member of the Scions, to aid WoL in saving the world from another calamity.

As for Yiuno, his relationship with Shatotto isn't as idealistic as Thancred with Louisoix. Towards the end of the Fifth Astral Era, Yiuno and his sister, Yiuna, were part of a neutral faction (similar to the Scions) aiming to stop the Magi War; Yiuna was dispatched to join the White Mages of Amdapor, while Yiuno was sent to spy on Mhach. Shatotto, who had been skeptical of the void mages and their over-reliance on voidsents, was developing her own brand of magick (later known as black magic); she immediately recognized the hidden potential within Yiuno. She pretty much forced him to become her disciple, and used him to refine and complete her research. While Yiuno did become her greatest successor, that came at a terrible price—for Yiuno's raw power far exceeded Shatotto's expectations and almost destroyed the nation they were supposed to protect. Shatotto took upon herself to shoulder the crime, and erased Yiuno's existence from historical records.

In a way, both Louisoix and Shatotto recruited their respective students to aid in their personal agendas, but I guess things might have turned out differently if Yiuno's talents were actually used for the greater good rather than... as a weapon of destruction in warfare.

FOR WORSE: This is a tough and ironic choice for many reasons, but Hades/Emet-Selch is just a stone throw away from what Yiuno could've become. Both of them have lived a very long life; they have seen enough horrors to crack their minds so hard that they are literally eddying in despair. Further, as revealed in the previous section, Yiuno had a hand in a genocide that shouldn't have happened. Would he blow up the world if his loved ones are killed? Absolutely.

In fact, Yiuno is still relatively sane for the time being only because the people he truly cares about—Sora, Y'shtola, and (fingers crossed) Yiuna—are still alive and well. For now. Also, as I've briefly discussed about the differences between Yiuno and Emet in this post, it'd take a lot more to compel Yiuno to take extreme actions like Emet did.

As for the irony I've mentioned in the beginning... due to the Flow spell mishap in post-ARR (he used it to save both himself and Sora from the Ul'dah coup), Yiuno's body is housing both a fragment of his Ancient self, Chronos, and another Ancient fragment—one of the triplets and Chrono's sister, Persephone. The latter is, of course, the wife of Emet. Just imagine how the meeting would've unfolded when Emet's shade saw Yiuno (who was shepherding Sora to her final showdown with Meteia and Zenos) in Ultima Thule.

Little WoL / non-WoL character question.

Is there a non-player character or NPC that reflects how your OC might have turned out if circumstances had been only slightly different? For better or worse.

If your OC is aware of this, then does it make them more sympathetic to that character? Or more jealous of them? Or simply fill them with an intense visceral hatred?

Little WoL / Non-WoL Character Question.

Yoko Kanno, hands down.

For Yiuno, "Inner Universe" from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex has the right vibe to his mysterious nature and disturbing past.

For Sora, it's definitely "TANK!" from Cowboy Bepop. The unconventional jazz beat in this song really brings out her tendency for rule-breaking, perchance for troublemaking... and just pure chaotic fun.

Yuki Kajiura is a close second. Her scores in Kara no Kyoukai: Garden of Sinners and Tsubasa Chronicle are good stuff.

If you could ask ONE music artist to do your WoL's original soundtrack or theme song, who would it be and why?

smash or pass? — yiuno.

Smash Or Pass? Yiuno.
Smash Or Pass? Yiuno.

— quick facts.

HEIGHT. 6' 1" / 186.5 cm

AGE. Unknown (immortal, appears 20+)

GENDER. Male / "Female" (as Yiune)

SEXUALITY. Demiromantic Asexual

— the pros.

ASTUTE. Yiuno is highly intelligent and perceptive; coupled with his resourcefulness, he is an asset you'd definitely want as a partner, whether it's on the battlefield... or even for the long trip ahead across the realm. A protector who's got your back, always. ENIGMATIC. Yiuno is a (wo)man of mystery; his broad knowledge of the world, particularly in ancient history and arcane arts, is extremely valuable. His secretive nature will also keep you on your toes... and yearning for more. There's never a dull day for as long as you're with him. REFINED. While Yiuno is a practical person at heart, he also understands the importance to be presentable for various situations. Perhaps it's due to his educational background, or his rich life experience—regardless of reasons, Yiuno certainly makes a great first impression, and continues to uphold that in the long run.

— the cons.

CHAOTIC NEUTRAL. Yiuno operates only by his personal code, his own rules—he doesn't bend his will to others. He can save lives as much as he takes them away; he has no qualms to lie or hurt people. A morally gray person through and through, he simply does whatever it takes to complete his own objectives, to fulfill his personal agendas. It's either his way, or no way. MANIPULATIVE. While Yiuno's secretive nature would excite those who seek the thrill of suspense and mystery trying to crack into his inner world, he's not going to let you in so easily. Sending you on a wild goose chase is what he does best (and enjoys most), and you're in for hell of a ride trying to navigate through his multi-layered masks and labyrinthine mind. SOLITARY. Yiuno often comes and goes like the wind—any attempt to seek a co-dependent relationship with him will only earn you a cold shoulder at best. He doesn't reject human interactions per se: he recognizes the necessity to blend into the society for a life of normalcy. A loner at heart, he needs lots of space for himself and his personal pursuits. He has little to no interest to indulge in the whims of others, unless it aligns with his own goals.

— more info.

WIT. While Yiuno doesn't demand his potential partner to possess the same level of intelligence as him, it'd certainly be easier to build rapport and gain his favor if you're able to communicate with him on equal footing. Otherwise, don't be dismayed at his superficial reactions, a facade maintained out of politeness. Or he'd simply ignore you and walk away once his attention span for you has dried up. SLOW BURN. Yiuno is no stranger to one-night stands or sexual interactions; however, these are often associated with the darker side of his job, hence he's not particularly keen to go there if you're looking to develop a more genuine connection with him. Coupled with his mysterious and callous nature, gaining his trust will be an uphill battle. If you don't have the patience to peel off his tough defenses one layer at a time, then you don't deserve to know him, to be with him, period. BEST OF BOTH WORLDS? Yiuno becomes a shifter due to an incident that involves the aetherial sea (it's a long story); he eventually comes to terms with his duality. Prior to this, "Yiune" was merely a feminine disguise that he used for jobs dealing with the underworld of Eorzea. Once seen as separate identities, now he accepts both egos as two halves that make him whole. Gender and sexuality be damned—man, woman or other, Yiuno frankly doesn't care. Satisfying the sensual needs of both ends of the spectrum isn't a problem for him, but the inverse is a different story altogether.

Smash Or Pass? Yiuno.

Highlight a FFXIV blog with a variety of compelling OCs - perhaps so many that you're impressed they can keep track of them all.

&

Highlight a FFXIV blog that has made you think about a character or setting in a different way.

FFXIV Blog Positivity Ask Game. — OPEN

Thank you for the ask, @mimble-sparklepudding! Now, to answer them in order:

When it comes to variety, @yloiseconeillants's blog is the first one that comes to mind. The sheer amount of headcanons that go into every single one of her OCs, including their Ancient selves, are really something! They are witty and fun, and they sure keep things fresh, throwing my expectations out of the window every single time.

I'm sure everyone does shed a different light to their character or setting in their own ways, but @archaiclumina's Ren is one I'm still in awe. This intricate archival system that Ren uses is very very impressive, going beyond anything we can find in the canon. She really embodies the saying, "you do not want to mess with a librarian," in all aspects—her meticulous perfectionism is truly a force to be reckoned with.

Aside from their characters, the muns themselves are also cool and amazing people! I do recommend checking out their content to learn more about their blorbos. Let's support each other in this community and foster a positive, healthy relationship with everyone!

Japanese only. I tried English at least once every expansion, but their voices just didn't click with me.

To be fair, Thancred and the twins sound okay in English, but overall the Japanese casting and direction are far superior.

(JP Y'shtola and JP Erenville all the way for me.)

I'm really not sure this poll will find its target audience bc I'm a small blog BUT I really really got curious lately so here we go.

Endwalker, hands down. The Manderville Weapons were the only set of relics I actually bothered to complete for all jobs while they were still relevant.

It's really refreshing to make better use of the time to do a variety of contents in game rather than mindlessly grinding for just one thing... for hours or even days. I absolutely despise grinding, because I want to maximize my limited playtime rather than wasting all that on something so... mind-numbing and it didn't worth all that effort at the end of the day.

Aside from the straightforward system and efficient upgrade steps, I also enjoyed the side story attached to the weapon quest―that's what I call a real summer break from saving-the-universe shenanigans. Just goofing around on misadventures with the gentleman inspector and getting into all sorts of wacky chaos... actually did make the usually stoic Yiuno crack a grin from time to time.

You can't deny that Hildy's mom is hot. Both literally and figuratively. Also Godbert is best man. Playing as him in one of the instanced battles was so fun!

Cyberpunk aesthetics is my kind of shit. The DRK weapon is pretty cool because it's actually an oversized whip, ha.

Eureka and Bozja were a mixed bag for me:

Eureka Weapon designs, at least up to Pyros, are dope.

Some of the NM mechanics are interesting, I guess... when you consider the trend of fight designs in Stormblood. Ozma is still one of the coolest mounts in the game.

Fuck the maps. Especially Pagos. Fuck those sleeping dragons.

Resistance Weapon designs initially started out really good... but ended up being absolute trash (save for RDM).

The dungeon fights were fun and challenging when they were still fresh and uncapped stats... But now that it's optimized to death it's just another brainless grind all over again.

Anima is only easy when you can solo and cheese most of the steps now, or unsync and complete the grind quickly within an hour or two. I can imagine it being a chore when the relic was still relevant in Heavensward.

Zodiac? It's forever the worst, both in terms of the grind (fuck the books) and the amount of gil you need to get through certain steps. (Easier for me to just farm UWU and get all those weapons with better glow, lol.)

I forced myself to finish the Yokai Watch event when they rerun it a second time with inclusion of GNB and DNC weapons, back in Shadowbringers. While I don't understand why the devs brought it back again in Endwalker and there weren't any new weapons for RPR and SGE, at least I didn't have to go through all that hell again; just talk to the NPC to collect some adventure plate thing I'd probably never use at all. I cannot comprehend people who enjoy this kind of torture, but hey, I respect that this is fun for you, just not my kind of fun.

Hi!! I told you I’ve been mulling over an ask for you! c’: It’s for Yiuno! I know, Yiuno’s very knowledgeable about the history of the star (-‿◦) could you tell us which era from Hydaelyn’s history he considers his favourite? Without revealing more about his OC lore than you’re comfortable revealing publicly, of course!

Thank you very much for the ask and a million apologies for the super late reply, @archaiclumina! ’Tis a tough question to answer—let’s see:

Though Yiuno has lived well and beyond the age of ordinary mortals, this doesn’t desaturate the memories of his troubled past, nor dampen his feelings for those fleeting moments. He remembers them all—this inability to forget the time he cannot rewind pains him, twisting him into the man he has now become.

To withstand the agony of living on while others around him would perish, he started to distance himself from the people and the world around him—a defensive mechanism to minimize the consequences of growing attachment on things that wouldn’t last forever. Living on becomes a mere routine, a daily motion to go through each day while staying under the radar, hiding in the shadows of history and be forgotten.

Calling these his favorite times in history is a stretch, but Yiuno did break out of the mundane cycle twice in his eternal life so far:

Hi!! I Told You Ive Been Mulling Over An Ask For You! C: Its For Yiuno! I Know, Yiunos Very Knowledgeable

The War of the Magi.

Yiuno, along with his twin sister Yiuna, joined Magi Lucis—the Mages of Light. Similar to the Circle of Knowing (1.0) and the Scions of the Seventh Dawn (2.0), Magi Lucis was founded by three mages, from each of the warring factions:

Seika Yan, a white mage from Amdapor,

Loki Zoki, a scholar from Nym, and

Kokoa Koa, a Mhachi magus.

The formation of Magi Lucis was to bring an end to the century-old war through peaceful means. However, that was quickly proven to be impossible, as none of the three nations were willing to negotiate and compromise—all of them were hellbent to destroy one another through military might. The organization was then forced to employ a different approach: by infiltrating each factions from within, they might be able to find ways to steer these nations away from their hunger for power and blood, and convince them to call for a ceasefire, to work towards a more amicable resolution.

Given Yiuna’s aptitude for healing magic, she was assigned to make contact with Amdapor. Through her efforts, she managed to gain the trust of the Elementals—the spirits that co-exist with the people of Amdapor in the woods, which also taught the basics of white magick to the locals.

Yiuno, meanwhile, was sent to Mhach, where he met Shatotto Shato. Shatotto had grown disgusted at the over-reliance on voidsents in the war. She began to develop a new kind of spell, which was later known as black magick. Recognizing Yiuno’s great affinity in her area of study, she wasted no time to force the Veena under her wing, and used him to refine her research with alarming efficiency. Yiuno also later found out that Kokoa was acquainted with Shatotto—both graduated from the same arcane academy in the same year, and Shatotto, with her overwhelming talent, was the top student at that time.

Convinced that her new magic would be enough to finally end this ridiculous bloodshed once and for all, Shatotto brought Yiuno alongside her onto the battlefield, and summoned a meteor rain to annihilate the opposing armies with sheer power. However, she severely underestimated Yiuno’s raw potential. The destruction that they caused was beyond control, wiping out just as many of their own people as their enemies. Shatotto chose to shoulder the full responsibility herself and removed Yiuno from the equation—she believed that it was her own miscalculation that had resulted in the huge loss. She knew that Yiuno had long surpassed her; she wanted him to continue living on and become the epitome of her legacy. He didn’t have to die with her, and bear the shame of her mistakes. (This is the reason why Shatotto was feared in history, and her black magick was often attributed to forbidden arts, or even considered evil.) Yiuno became the last direct successor, though he often hides his knowledge on black magick, and pretends to be a Red Mage instead.

The relationship between Yiuno and Shatotto appeared to be built on mutual benefits (Yiuno used Shatotto’s high rank position in the military for political gains, while Shatotto used Yiuno for her own research); their constant bickering and attempts to dominate over one another gave the impression of being on bad terms. In reality, they were very fond of each other, with mutual respect on equal footing. (On the same note, this is probably why Yiuno clicks so well with Y’shtola later in the game canon timeline, because intellects at that level aren’t easy to come by.)

The Seventh Umbral Calamity.

Yiuno and Yiuna often wandered around Eorzea and other lands as mercenaries for hire. This is mainly to keep themselves under the radar and avoid drawing attention to their immortality. They were hired by an exiled Sharlayan scholar—a Moon Keeper by the name of I’suca Amariyo—on a excursion to the Nhalmasque Ruins. I’suca’s main area of study, which ironically was about the relationship between aether and ageing, brought her to the ruins in search of an artifact rumored to defy the logic of time.

However, what they found was a young Xaela girl cryogenized in a life pod, which appeared to be powered by something similar to Allagan technology. I’suca freed the Au Ra, hoping to learn about her origin and the mystery behind her extraordinary state, but was disappointed when the girl turned out to be amnesiac.

I’suca named her “I’sora Amariyo,” and she began to subject the Xaela to a series of experimentation. The Viera twins, though they didn't agree with I’suca’s questionable treatment towards what she called an “empty vessel,” were bound to the contract as hired bodyguards, and they were unable to openly defy their client. However, they did their best to take care of I’sora, playing with the curious girl and teaching her various things about the world around them. I’sora was particularly close to Yiuno: she’d often curl up next to him whenever she fell asleep. On occasions when the young girl had sudden panic attacks, Yiuno’s presence was the only thing that could calm her down. Both Yiuno and Yiuna had come to regard I’sora as their little sister.

I’suca’s redemption happened during the Seventh Umbral Calamity. She had been tinkering around the life pod while trying to figure out I’sora’s origin (she hypothesized that the child was probably a remnant of the Age of Endless Frost, hence the use of deep freezing to preserve her). To save I’sora and the Viera twins from Bahamut’s rage, she forced the trio into the life pod, and protected them with her own magic until her last breath.

By the time Yiuno and I’sora woke up from their five-year slumber into a new era, they couldn’t any trace of I’suca remaining in the world. Yiuna was also missing, though Yiuno was sure that his twin sister must be still alive somewhere. With the Xaela, renamed as Sora Amariyo, they journeyed across the Star in search of Yiuna, and Sora later became a Warrior of Darkness.

Hi!! I Told You Ive Been Mulling Over An Ask For You! C: Its For Yiuno! I Know, Yiunos Very Knowledgeable

The lore-bending parts are mostly my personal take on existing canon and expanding it further to weave into my blorbos’ lore and backstories. There are actually a lot more to what you’ve just read above, which I’m more than happy to go into details in DMs if anyone is interested. For now, this is the barebone that should (hopefully) answer the question.

Once again, thank you very much for the ask!
