pairing. taehyung x female! reader
genre/prompt. misunderstandings, marriage! au, angst
word count. 1.2k
content. none questionable, maybe hinted cheating? but it’s a misunderstanding so not entirely
synopsis. You trusted him with your heart, but after seeing him with another, could you again?
writer’s note. written for the BTS Ghostie Writers Net’s writing bingo! It’s not based off the song of the same name but I did listen to it while writing. This is my last square in the row I chose :) Everything flowed out surprisingly quickly for this one. Like it took one hour at most, but I’m proud of it.
The flickering of lights showed little solace to the broken heart which you nursed. As you clutched your body, shaking with the sobs which consumed it, the broken pieces of your heart before you seemed to mock your naïveté. You’d placed the entirety of your trust on his palm only for him to close it and crush it. It’s not as though you could deny yourself of his blatant infidelity. You’d watched it happen after all. The Louboutin stilettos you’d picked for today which were once on your feet laid at the door of your shared bedroom with the one which you though was your beloved. You’d dressed up to surprise him and yet, all you’d found once you neared his office was your heart cracking. The journey home was filled with questions of superficial concern uttered by those which served your husband, but you couldn’t bring yourself to do anything but nod and send a watery fake smile. Every minute you’d spent replaying the scene you walked into caused your heart to shatter just a bit more, making it so by the time you walked numbly into the bedroom, your knees buckled and your face gave out. Your face of pretense was unable to be kept any longer than it already had been put up. No, everything was not okay.
You weren’t meant to walk into that, that much you were aware. After all, why would it be intended for you to find your husband with his shareholder’s mouth on his? No, you hadn’t stayed long enough to watch as he pushed her forcibly away from himself and break their contract. How could you stay that long? Your weakened heart didn’t allow it. You’d read too much about this, all of your friends had gone through this, everyone had told you of the possibility of this. An affair. Your vehement refusal of the fact that your husband, sweet and lovesick Kim Taehyung, would partake in such a vile thing. He was always similar to a lost puppy when it came to you after all. He’d worked so hard to get you, it was almost laughable how it’d never popped into your mind. The biggest question in your mind as you laid on the floor of the darkened bedroom who’s only light was that of a candle was ‘what do I do now?’. A fairly simple question which would garner several answers with which you, however, did not want to partake in. As much as it devastated you, you couldn’t bring yourself to loathe him. As much as every breath with his betrayal in your mind hurt, you didn’t want to end things with him. Even if it hurt, you wanted him by your side. You wanted—no, needed— to forget what you saw. Your body and mind craved for him reassurance, his warmth. If he denied and was not truthful, you couldn’t bring yourself to care.
The soft thumping of sock clad feet resounded, nearing the door you had shut in haste to hide yourself to the world. The soft knocking went not unnoticed, but ignored by you. It wasn’t until you felt the familiar warmth of your lover pressed to your back and his soft lips meeting your cold skin in comfort that you reacted at all. Your sobs had subsided, but as his broad frame embraced your smaller one, you’d started to let out cries of despair. He whispered simple words of comfort, attempting to subdue your audible grief. It had worked. After what seemed like a couple minutes, you’d be reduced to sniffling.
“I know you saw. I saw you run in those... towers by the door.” You made no attempt to respond at his attempt of a joke. You didn’t know what would be acceptable in a situation like this for your well-being.
“I’m going to be truthful, as I always am with you, my love. Please don’t doubt me, I beg you. I love you too much to let you go like this. Please... please look at me, my love.” You’d zoned into how his chest tumbled as he spoke. His words were gentle and full of genuine sencerity. You’d trusted him all these years, it’s not like you can’t bring yourself to again. Still, you’d graced him with nothing but silence. He sighed, knowing he couldn’t do anything but wait. Slowly, his words registered into your brain and just as slowly you attempted to face him from your kneeling position on the floor. He looked just like when you’d both met at the coffee shop you worked at. He would come in every morning despite having several assistants which would break their back to do anything he asked of them. Yet, he’d always make time to pick up his order every morning. He’d never pick up coffee, which you found peculiar for someone who looked like a businessman. He’d always pick something sweet paired with some pastry you offered at the location. Every day for two years he’d never failed to show up every morning until he, finally, asked you out. One could only guess the chain of events that happened before this moment. It was nothing short of sickeningly sweet and fairy-tale raquel days. This, however, was the first and biggest hurdle your relationship decided to encounter. How cruel could life be? He looked nearly the same, just a few minimal wrinkles of age here and there which would show as he did different expressions. He was still the same, however, and that hurt. How could the same Taehyung you knew all this time do such a thing to you?
His expression was that of soft panic, his fear of losing you outshining any other emotion. You both looked at eachother for a few more seconds or minutes, maybe, before he continued.
“i’m not going to say it was an accident.” The scattered pieces of your heart showed new cracks within them. They’d be nothing but dust by the end, you figured. You looked down at the floor.
“I knew she was intending to kiss me. I didn’t think she’d try to, though. You have to believe me when I tell you it wasn’t something i wanted. I’ve done everything I can to keep things professional between us, but she doesn’t get tired of trying. I didn’t know she would do this. Ple—please look at me.” Could you believe him? You closed your eyes and inhaled a heavy breath, laden with your insecurities. Looking into his eyes, maybe it was wishful thinking, you saw they held the only emotion he’d retained throughout his his entire ordeal: sincerity. You could see even remorse. His brain was filled with ‘If only’ and ‘I should’ve’ thoughts. He hoped—desperately—you could believe him. He’d heard many in his position talk of this situation happening and he didn’t want the end they described to happen.
“I know I should’ve pushed her off as soon as she neared me, but she always flirts with me and never steps over the line. I should’ve done it immediately, but I was stunned. If checking the cameras will make you happy then I’ll arrange so that you can look at the footage.” He suggested his voice softening and lifting into what sounded like a question. You took his cheeks in your warming hands and softly pecked him. You’d believe him, even if your brain screamed that he wasn’t being truthful. Even if your body didn’t want to believe the truth he spoke, you trusted him with your life.

Kim Taehyung is walking on the campus with a little handbag in his hand. His black hair is pushed back, and he’s wearing a white button-up shirt with brown classic pants. The outfit is complemented by a black watch on his left wrist. His entire being breathes old money as always. Taehyung was born into a very old and powerful family. A family whose history dates back several centuries.
However, with such history comes also strong responsibilities. He can’t do whatever he desires because the family’s image and reputation are at stake. He has grown up knowing it, especially since he’s the firstborn and only son, he only has a younger sister. So the responsibilities have all fallen onto his shoulders. Responsibilities that are way too heavy to carry. But what can he do?
As he’s walking to the lecture hall to attend his history class, everyone turns their heads to look at him. On top of being a handsome man, he has quite a strong presence and charisma. All eyes are always on him, he knows how to catch someone’s attention. Nonetheless, sometimes, he considers that to be a burden more than anything else. His parents make him use his charms to conquer new investors for their couture house.
Quite quickly, he reaches the lecture hall and takes a seat next to his best friend, Jimin. They grew up together and they have always counted on each other. Taehyung knows that Jimin will always be there no matter what, and that he’ll try to help him find a solution. However, there’s one problem that he’ll never be able to help him with. You.
“Hi,” Jimin says with a little smile appearing on his face. “Where were you last night?” he asks.
Taehyung disappeared last night, he wanted to be alone. Alone with his thoughts. He was supposed to be at a party organized by Jungkook, one of his closest friends but in the end, he didn’t go. He is completely heartbroken and instead of getting drunk, he decided to stay alone to realize the extent of what his life has become. And he realized that for the first time in his life, he deeply loved someone. But it's someone he can’t have and keep in his life.
“I stayed home,” he replies to his friend.
Jimin frowns, it’s quite surprising since Taehyung wouldn’t miss a party. However, he has noticed that his best friend has changed for the past 2 months. He was acting differently and he was definitely happier.
Taehyung’s eyes notice you entering the massive room full of students. You’ll always be the only person he’ll notice in a crowded room. You’re talking to your best friend, Nari, and you don’t even see him. In some way, he prefers you don’t so you don’t notice how he’s devouring you with his eyes. His heart wants to be next to you but his mind reminds him that the only way he can protect you is to keep you far.
Life isn’t particularly easy for him. His parents are always there to remind him that his responsibilities come first, and when he doesn’t listen to them, they threaten him. He never has a choice. Whatever he might feel isn’t important. They decide for him, and he needs to do as they say. He’s completely powerless. He’s just a puppet in his parents’ hands. They found out about you, he still doesn’t know how, and they told him that they would destroy your life if he didn’t stay away from you.
His future is with Hyejoo, the daughter of another powerful family. The daughter of one investor of Kim Couture. That’s the girl his parents chose for him. The saddest part is that she even likes him a lot when he only finds her stupid and ridiculous. He’ll never be with her.
As his eyes follow you, he’s brought back to the intimate night you shared a couple of nights ago. For a brief moment, he closes his eyes. It was the best sex session he had ever in his life, and god, he has fucked many girls in his life. He can perfectly see you again under his body while he fucks you with no mercy. He can perfectly hear you moan as your body contorts with pleasure, and the way he perfectly fits inside you. He can still sense your soft skin under his fingers, and he can still taste your lips on his. Damn, now, he wants to kiss you. His fingers run over his lips to imitate the feeling of your lips.
But he quickly reminds himself that he can’t have you. His eyes abruptly open again.
“Are you okay?” Jimin asks. Taehyung only nods.
Very discreetly, you look around to look for the man that broke your heart. It doesn’t take you long before finding him, and to your surprise, he’s also looking at you. You’d even say he’s intently glancing at you, but you believe it’s only your imagination playing with you. He rejected you after all so it wouldn’t make any sense to be looking at you this way.
You rapidly look away, and this anger you’ve been feeling since he broke your heart comes back. You hate him just like you did two months ago. Maybe even more because you let him in. You let him use you. Two months ago, he was simply a stranger that you didn’t like. Now, he’s a lover that you hate. But, you totally ignore that Taehyung is protecting you from his family.
To understand how you both got here, we need to go back in time.

SERIES MASTERLIST | PREVIOUS | NEXT
Running through the campus, you mentally check that you took all your belongings. It would be a nightmare to get them back, probably someone would steal them. In the best-case scenario, you’d have to go to the lost and found office. That doesn’t enchant you really well.
But you’re running out of time. Today’s lectures ended super late, and you must be at the store where you work. The manager is quite harsh and isn’t very kind when someone is late. That has never happened to you. You always make sure to be on time since you’re the type to be a people-pleaser. Being late isn’t even possible, so you run to catch the bus and ensure you’re on time.
As you reach the pedestrian crossing, a stupid car passes by and almost knocks you over. Luckily, you take a quick step back to avoid being hurt. You instantly yell, insulting the driver since the person seems not to have seen you. When you yell, you see the driver, he’s also looking at you and you show him your best middle finger, making him understand that he’s an asshole.
“Asshole,” you aggressively shout.
Nonetheless, the second you realize who it is, you instantly regret it. That man is no other than Kim Taehyung. He’s for sure the most recognizable man in the entire campus but he’s also the son of the big boss of your shop. Well, to make it short, you work at one of the many Kim Couture’s shops and it happens that the company was created by the Kim family. A family that Taehyung is part of.
The cherry on top is that Taehyung will be coming to the store you’re working at. The other point is that he saw you yelling and showing your middle finger. A devious smirk appeared on his face.
Shit! You’re definitely in trouble.
Taehyung isn’t just Taehyung. He’s known to be a fucker, and a good one apparently, a rich kid, full of himself, pretentious, popular, exasperating, and crazily annoying. He thinks he’s the king of the world. That’s the way you perceive him.
At the end of the day, he’s a guy who grew up with a golden spoon in his mouth. He always had everything he wanted, and everybody always licked his boots. He does whatever he wants with people. It’s quite annoying but you won’t deny that he is charismatic.
Again, that’s the way you perceive him but you ignore that it’s far from being the truth.
Quickly after, the bus arrives and you jump in it. Your heart is beating like crazy, you’re so scared of what will happen and what Taehyung will do or say. After all, he’s your big boss’ son. If he desires to fire you, he has the power to do it. You absolutely don’t want to lose this job. It was already hard to find one with your limited experience, but you need to keep it. The tuition fees are costly.
Getting into a prestigious university was your biggest dream, and through some miracle, you managed to do it. It came with a lot of work, obviously. You were determined to be there. However, you thought that it would be harder than that. You believed that you needed to be the daughter of wealthy parents. But through your own efforts, you were accepted, and you’re quite proud of yourself.
Having a job is what allows you to pursue your dream. Your parents insisted on helping with the tuition fees, but you don’t really want their financial assistance. This is your dream, not theirs, so they shouldn’t have to pay for it. That’s how you see things. Certainly, balancing your studies with your job isn’t easy. But you manage to make it work and you’re very proud of yourself.
Of course, you appreciate the fact that your parents want to help, but the fees are extremely expensive. You don’t want your parents to ruin themselves to support you, they already face financial difficulties. You don’t want to be a burden for them. So, you’re going to work a lot and as much as you can to pay for everything on your own.
Working at Kim Couture is definitely helping a lot. The wage is good, it allows you to even save some money. You wished to use it to help your parents but they refused. In some way, you take a lot after them, and you can all be very stubborn when it comes to finance.
Once you arrive at your workplace, you run to the back to change yourself. There is a strict dress code to follow as a Kim Couture employee. Today, you even have to make an extra effort to dress even better than usual. You have to be perfect because Kim Jihyun, Taehyung’s father is coming.
It doesn’t enchant you to meet him and his son today, especially after this incident with the son.
“Mister Kim is coming in 5,” your boss, Namjoon informs you.
You hurry up to avoid giving another reason for Taehyung to kick you out. It’s already enough you insulated him and showed him your middle finger. The outfit is quite simple, it’s a full black one and a full one created by Kim Couture. Jacket, t-shirt, classic pants, and shoes. Luckily, you can do whatever you want with your hair, the most important is to always be presentable. You always have to be impeccable under any circumstances.
Through this job, you already had the opportunity to meet famous people, going from a king to a singer. A lot of them are surprisingly very nice and polite. Some others are the opposite, rude as fuck. Those ones, you hate them. With the little experience you have now, when someone enters the store, you can already tell if they are going to be nice or rude. It’s all in their aura.
Once ready, you run to the front of the store and take place next to your colleagues. You are all lined up next to each other while Namjoon gives clear instructions. Mister Kim will only come to give a little visit, he does it annually. However, this year, it’s his second time visiting this one because this store has been doing great. In any case, it will be your first time meeting Mister Kim since you joined right after his last visit.
Your colleagues described the man in a non-flattering way. Kim Jihyun is certainly one of the most famous people, there’s no doubt about it, but he’s a horrible person. He shows no mercy to anyone. If things aren’t done the way he wants, he literally explodes. The employees of his stores are treated like shit since they are poor. He inherited the Kim Couture house from his ancestors, he’s very wealthy but he’s definitely the worst person your colleagues have ever met.
Hearing the stories shared by your coworkers gave you chills running through your spine. That man is, without any doubt, horrible. So, you have to be perfect today so you get to stay here. But now, your biggest concern is what Taehyung will do. Is he a piece of shit as well and he will kick you out?
An impressive car halts in front of the store. The door is opened by the doorman and two imposing men make their way inside. To be fair, Mister Kim is a frightening person, but what his soul gives off is powerful. You can only have respect for him as he walks near you. He’s wearing a grey suit with a white shirt underneath. The outfit is completed with a dark trench coat. This man breathes money from afar.
Your eyes move now to his son, Taehyung. He’s certainly very charismatic and he also gives off a strong energy, but not as powerful as his father’s. Unlike his parent, he’s wearing a blue polo shirt with an evident white shirt underneath, and white classic pants. For a second, you take him in. You heard so many things about him at uni, and a lot from your friend Nari.
Nari is your best friend but also a rich kid. Her grandparents made a fortune by developing an intelligent program that is sold worldwide. You met her a couple of years ago and surprisingly, a very strong friendship blossomed. Both of you see the world differently, but that vision is what has brought you together. Obviously, you sometimes have very animated conversations because you come from two different worlds.
Nari’s family is close to Taehyung’s family, so she knows him. She doesn’t spend much time with him because they are very different. The way she describes him is quite similar to the rumors people spread on campus. He’s a fuckboy, arrogant guy, full of himself, and a cold-blooded person. The fact that he’s wealthy as fuck makes his personality even worse.
Taehyung’s eyes land on you. It’s obvious from the way he smiles that he recognizes you. Your heart starts beating crazily. Shit! He follows his father who is walking and examining all of you while Namjoon introduces you. As they do so, you bow in respect.
“This is yn,” Namjoon says once in front of you.
“Nice to meet you, Sirs Kim,” you bow to the men.
They simply nod. The youngest doesn’t say anything which reassures you. Hopefully, today, you won’t be losing your job. For a couple of minutes, you stay in the same position while the other employees are introduced. Mister Kim then gives a little speech in which he says how proud he is of this store, and a lot of other things you honestly don’t listen to.
Since you sit down on chairs while Mister Kim is giving his speech, you choose to sit at the extremity. So, nobody is sitting to your left. Well, that is until Taehyung decides to join you. At first, you don’t notice him since you’re focused on his father’s speech.
“So I’m an asshole?” he whispers in your ear, causing you to jump in surprise.
“For fuck’s sake, you scared me,” you instantly reply in a whisper.
The same devious smile that was on his face earlier reappears. For a brief moment, your eyes meet his, but you quickly turn your face to look at his father. It makes you uncomfortable to have his glance directly on yours.
“And to answer your question,” you very quickly look at him. “Yes, you are.”
You’re hesitant to keep going, too scared that he could do something you’ll forever regret.
“You were about to knock me over,” you add.
“You’re being a tiny bit dramatic,” he instantly claps back at you.
You roll your eyes, he’s being annoying.
“Could you please let me listen to your father’s speech?” you raise without looking at him.
He’s distracting you which isn’t good. His father is your big boss, he’s doing a speech and you have to listen to it. It’s rather important.
“Why would I do that?” he asks back. “I’m an asshole after all.”
You want to laugh, he’s stupid but it’s definitely not the right moment to be laughing. Namjoon will kill you if you do so. You absolutely don’t want to lose your job because of an asshole. So now, you decide to ignore him, to act like he isn’t even here. A smirk appears on his face when he realizes you’re ignoring him.
For the rest of Jihyun’s speech, Taehyung leaves you alone, which you’re grateful for. All you wish for now is to not lose your job. That guy seems to be an absolute jerk and the son of your big boss so he has all the powers in his hand.
Afterward, he leaves you completely alone, giving you some needed peace. Once his father finishes his speech, the two of them leave the store, but before doing so, Taehyung winks at you. You roll your eyes, causing him to laugh a little. The stupid man who almost knocked you over seems to be trying to flirt with you. Does it surprise you? No, because you’re convinced that he does that to every girl so they forgive him for being an asshole.
But you’re not like the other girls, you won’t forget what he did.

“Remember me why we’re studying?” Nari asks you while you’re walking.
“To be badasses!” you jokingly answer.
Nari laughs at your answer, but she couldn’t agree more with you. You’re studying to have an impressive degree so you can find impressive jobs. She’s aware that all of this is a hundred times harder for you than it is for her. If she doesn’t like this or wants to try something else, she’ll have her parents' money. However, on the other hand, you don’t have that. She knows how incredibly hard you worked to be here, and she knows that you wouldn’t have chosen something just for the fun of it.
“I don’t want to attend classes today,” she replies.
“Same,” you answer. “But we have to if we want to be the strongest bitches the world has ever known.”
Nari admires you beyond comprehension. You’re always so optimistic, always seeing the bright side of everything when the world has shown no mercy to you. Since you’re thirteen, you’ve been battling with epilepsy. It has been a constant struggle but you have shown how strong you are.
Nari doesn’t know that being positive and optimistic is what helps you fight this terrible and invisible disease. Otherwise, you would have gotten into depression a long time ago. Being positive allows you to genuinely be happy.
“You’re right,” she says with a bright smile appearing on her face.
“I’m always right.”
The two of you enter the lecture hall and take a seat at a random place. It’s quite an impressive room and there aren’t that many students so you can choose wherever you want to sit. There are still a solid 10 minutes before the class starts so you animately keep talking. At a certain point, she frowns, and you turn your head to see what is causing that reaction.
As you do so, you notice Taehyung coming in your direction. Deep down, you hope that he’s coming for Nari, but inevitably, you know it’s not the truth. You know he’s coming for you.
“Hi, yn,” Taehyung says with a stupid smile on his face.
“What do you want?”
Nari is shockingly surprised by the way you answer him. She totally ignores what happened yesterday with Taehyung. You haven’t talked about it yet, but thanks to this idiot (or asshole as you prefer to call him), you’ll have to do it as soon as he leaves.
“Calm down, miss dramatic,” you roll your eyes. “I went back to the store yesterday and I noticed you forgot this,” he hands you a personalized pen.
This pen was offered to you by your dad some months ago. It’s a black pen with your name engraved on it in white. It’s a very pretty one, and for sure, it was expensive but you didn’t say anything. Since your parents didn’t offer you anything when you graduated, they offered you the pen as a little ‘good luck’ gift for this new step in your life. You love this pen, you always take notes with it.
Honestly, you didn’t even notice you left it at the store. However, you would have noticed it during this class as you wouldn’t have found it. It would have annoyed you but it won’t now since Taehyung brought it.
In a way, it moves you that he considered bringing it back to you. Nonetheless, you’re convinced he has a reason to do it. This is Taehyung after all, he’s known for being selfish. He wouldn’t do this just to be nice to you.
“You didn’t need to bring it, you could have left it there,” you tell him.
Taehyung deeply exhales, you can see in his eyes that he’s a bit exasperated.
“A simple thank you would have been enough,” he says.
Before you can answer, the professor enters the lecture hall and Taehyung takes a seat somewhere else. You take a quick look at Nari. She’s definitely surprised by everything that just happened. You will need to tell her. It’s nothing major but it’s for sure shocking that this man even acknowledges your existence. Outside of wealthy people, he doesn’t know anybody else here.
For a brief moment, you turn your face to look for him. You quickly find him and to your surprise, he’s also looking at you.
In all honesty, you barely know him but you can tell that you feel a lot of mixed feelings. You kind of hate him for what he did yesterday, although hate is a strong word. You simply don’t really like him. However, he’s captivating.
After the class, as you’re walking on the campus, you explain everything to Nari. There’s not much to be said but she’s your best friend so it’s normal for you to explain to her how you met Kim Taehyung.

Taehyung wakes up with a massive headache. He drank too much as always. His eyes try to adjust to the light but it takes him some time since the room is fucking bright. His face turns to his left, only to find a girl sleeping on his bed. Nothing new.
For the past two years, his life has been made up of parties, hangovers, and lots of sex. That’s how he enjoys life. Well, that’s how he believes he enjoys it. Deep down, he knows he chose this life because two years ago, he didn’t want to stay at home. It was way too hard to be there, and partying, drinking, and having sex is a lot easier.
Having girls in his bed is way too easy for him. All the girls are crawling at his feet, desperate for a little bit of recognition. Of course, he’s more than aware that he’s charismatic and he plays with it. Flirting is like second nature to him. It doesn’t take him much to make a girl crave him. It’s quite an easy game for him.
However, when he realizes the girl who’s sleeping next to him, it instantly wakes him up. Shit! It’s Hyejoo.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck,” he rapidly says while getting up.
Hyejoo isn’t any girl, she’s the daughter of one of Kim Couture’s investors, Park Daehyun. She’s super wealthy, even wealthier than him so Jihyun decided that Taehyung has to date her. And in dating her, he means to marry her. Not right now but he has to get with her and stay with her until marriage. The purpose is to make her a Kim. That way, her family will forever invest in Kim Couture. Honestly, it’s well thought out but Taehyung doesn’t want her, doesn’t want to get married, and most importantly, he doesn’t want to be used for the company’s interest. Nevertheless, that’s nothing new.
His father has always put the company first. The rest doesn’t matter. He got married to a wealthy woman for the company, but he never loved her. Made children with her to ensure the future of the business. Luckily, a boy was born first so he didn’t need to try many times before producing an heir. He got a daughter afterwards but it was just a plus. So in the end, he has absolutely no consideration for his daughter, Yseult. Basically, he acts like she doesn’t even exist which is quite destructive for her. Taehyung tries as much as he can to protect her but it’s sometimes almost impossible to protect her from their father.
With time, his mother started to be like his father. Her family was only good if it benefited the company. She always agrees with Jihyun, and in the end, they both use Taehyung for the business. They don’t see him as their child or even like a human at all. They only see him as the future CEO and the new face of Kim Couture. So they don’t let him do much. For sure, they let him party right now so he can enjoy life before being in charge of the company. But enjoy is a strong word. He doesn’t enjoy anything.
When Taehyung was young, he remembers how loving and caring his mother was. He hated his father who was very severe with him but he deeply loved his mother. She was his everything. But as he grew up and she started to change, he also started hating her. He felt no more love towards her. Today, he doesn’t love anyone, not even himself. His life is quite sad in the end.
“Good morning Taehyung,” Hyejoo says when she wakes up.
“I have to go,” he simply tells her.
She’s a bit confused but he doesn’t give a shit about it. He storms out of the room and basically runs outside. As he does so, he calls his chauffeur to come and get him. His parents don’t let him drive as they are scared something will happen to him. They trust Minho to always drive him anywhere. Things are a bit different now that he is in college, he can drive alone during the week but during the weekend, he can’t. Minho has to drive him anywhere he wants to. In a matter of seconds, he arrives to pick him up. Hyejoo tries to catch him but she doesn’t arrive on time.
“Can we go to some random coffee shop?” Taehyung asks.
“Yes,” the chauffeur answers while nodding.
Taehyung looks from the window. Flashbacks from last night came back, he drank a lot and Hyejoo flirted with him. At first, he pushed her back since he didn’t like her but she was insistent. As he was getting drunk, he was letting his guard down so in the end, he couldn’t resist her anymore.
He rubs his face while mentally insulting himself. He should have resisted because now, she’ll run around him even more. Hyejoo loves Taehyung, it’s no secret to anyone. She’s always around him, trying to make him fall in love with her. She’s also convinced that he’ll date and marry her as his father plans. Although she totally ignores that he doesn’t like her at all. He couldn’t actually care less about her.
They arrive at a coffee shop, it’s a small one but it looks so cozy inside. Minho opens the car’s door to Taehyung and he walks to the entrance. His chauffeur remains in front of the car, waiting for his boss’ child. Taehyung is only going to grab a coffee and some pastries to eat while going home.
He stands in front of the bar and checks the menu. He’s starving so he’ll take all the pastries that he craves. He orders and then moves to the right, to the little space where customers patiently wait. As he walks in that direction, a girl turns around, causing them to hit each other. Since she was holding a coffee in her hands, he got coffee all over his blue shirt.
“Fuck,” he swears. “Could have been..”
As he speaks and lays his eyes down on the girl, he realizes that it’s you.
“You, again,” you mumble as you notice that he’s the guy hitting you. “You should be more careful,” you instantly tell him.
“You’re the one who hit me this time,” he replies. “I was just walking to get my order.”
“Well, I was going to leave after receiving my order.”
Being around each other makes you both feel something you both never felt for anyone else. It’s weird since you’ve only known each other for like 4 days. He didn’t even know you existed until he almost knocked you over.
Now, he’s covered in coffee which angers him and you lost half of your coffee which angers you as well.
“Pff,” you say. “Now I have to order a new coffee because of you.”
“If you were more careful, you wouldn’t need to do that.”
You roll your eyes. Around him, you’ve rolled your eyes a lot. You’re even surprised by it, nobody has ever made you do that so often. On the other hand, he absolutely hates when you do that, he’d even say that it almost pisses him off.
“Fuck you,” you simply say back.
He takes a step closer to you, your faces are now very close. There is barely any space between you, his eyes roaming your face before halting for a couple of seconds on your lips. Your heart is hammering in your chest, ready to burst at any moment. This man is impressive. His face gets closer to you, and your heart beats even faster, something that never happened before.
Taehyung notices that you don’t step back. Well, he doesn’t want to as well. You both glance at each other. For the first time ever, he feels his heart beating fast. No other girl, or anyone else, has ever made him feel that way. He notices how pretty you are. Well, from the first second, he laid eyes on you, he found you very beautiful. But now that you’re closer, he gets to see closely your beauty. You’re also very charismatic, you draw him in a way he can’t explain. Without realizing it, he’s attracted to you. You catch all of his attention when he’s near you.
When he found your pen at the store, he could have left it there. But that was the perfect excuse to get to see you and talk to you. He can’t resist the urge of being around you. If he sees you, he only wants to get closer. Like right now. He could be talking to you without being this close, but he needs it.
He takes in your sweet scent, you smell so good.
Both of you are glancing deeply into each other. There is definitely something going on but you won’t admit it.
After what felt like an eternity, he pulls himself together before getting closer to your ear.
“What did you say?” he murmurs with a deep voice, causing shivers down your spine.
“Do you want me to spell it out for you?” you dare to say. “F-U-C-K,” before you can even finish, he cuts you off.
“Don’t you ever say that again,” he whispers. “Especially if you’re in the wrong.”
“You’re threatening me?” your question almost sounds like an affirmation.
“I’m just warning you, miss dramatic,” he says.
Taehyung strongly stinks of alcohol but there’s also a bit of his cologne emanating from him. You don’t even doubt that he has a hangover and is most probably still drunk.
“Oh,” you first say. “You think I’m afraid of you, asshole?” you then say.
He’s caught off guard, causing him to take a step back to look at you. Usually, people get scared and leave him alone. Honestly, you’re kind of the surprising type. Now you’re the one getting closer to his ear before starting to whisper.
“You should be the one being careful,” you murmur.
The way you pronounced every word made him shiver. Fuck, he hates the effect you have on him. It’s been only a couple of days but you’ve been resisting him in every possible way. This almost feels like a challenge to him to make you fall onto your knees.
“Or what?” he asks.
“Well, you’ll have to discover,” you answer.
Taehyung feels your breath crashing against his ear, and visible goosebumps appear on his body. You don’t notice as you’re concentrating on provoking him. As you take a step back, you’re startled by his burning eyes on you. To say that he’s devouring you is literally an understatement. Never before has a man looked at you that way. Thousands of butterflies are freed inside your belly.
You don’t even know how to look at him or if you’re even looking at him the same way. The only thing you are sure of is that your cheeks are fully red. Even if this man impossibly angers you, he also manages to destabilize you. It’s so contradictory. But you’d be lying if you said you didn’t like the feeling of his burning eyes on you. It makes you feel desired. Desired by Kim Taehyung.
“I need to order my coffee again,” you say as you put a clear distance between you.
Taehyung simply nods and a few minutes later his order is ready. For a brief moment, his eyes discreetly glance at you while he grabs his order. There’s something so mesmerizing about you, and damn, he really wants to discover what you’ll do to him if he pushes you again over the hedge.

While you’re sitting on the bus, you’re completely lost in your thoughts. You’re thinking about what happened with Taehyung minutes ago. Things with him are evolving intriguingly. You’re both always colliding with each other. It’s not smooth at all. But that man is so fucking annoying! How can even people like him at all?
The music is blasting in your ears through your headphones. Sabrina Carpenter is singing “Feather” for your biggest pleasure. It’s one of your favorite songs at the moment. Surprisingly, it’s one of the songs that has been reminding you that you were too good for your ex. Definitely, you’re better off without him. However, you try not to think too much about him because he devastatingly broke your heart.
Kai, your ex, is the kind of guy that easily becomes friends with everybody. He’s super chill and super nice. You two instantly hit it off, you directly felt love but it took you some time to actually fall in love with him. Being loved and loving him felt so good. You both imagined what your future life together could look like. You were convinced that he was the one. But you were wrong. He never was the one.
At a party, he kissed a girl. It wasn’t just a random girl, it was a girl he had a crush on a couple of years ago. It devastated you, especially since you were going through a tough time health-wise. You were also working too hard to get accepted at this prestigious university. It was just the last straw. However, since you were convinced he was your forever person, you forgave him. You thought that it was just a mere kiss, and he also did everything to make you forgive him.
The reconciliation didn’t last long because you were such a mess. Everything was just too much and you couldn’t handle anything anymore. So you put an end to your relationship. You were devastated, to say the least. You thought that he was going to make his way back to you but he kind of didn’t. You had some conversations but they all ended up in sex. It was nice but nothing was being solved. However, he was doing that to keep you wrapped around his fingers. From there, everything became a mess.
Kai hid from you that he was seeing that girl so he could have you. He was flirtatious with you, and you were having a lot of casual sex. You believed things were going to be solved and that you were getting back together. Today, as you look backward, you realize that it was merely a physical attraction. Nothing more. You never got back together because you ignored that he was actually with the other girl.
It shocked you once you found out. Kai talked so badly of cheaters and he was there doing the exact same thing. What you didn’t forgive him is the fact that you were the other girl. He was cheating on his girlfriend with you while you weren’t aware of the situation. It broke you beyond comprehension.
Kai is still with his girlfriend, it’s already been more than a year. You don’t know if she ever found out that he cheated on her. Probably not. You don’t think she’d stay with a cheater but you don’t know her so you don’t know how she’d handle it. Maybe she forgave him. You don’t know. The only thing you’re sure of is that sometimes he comes back. Thank god, Nari is part of your life and forbids you to interact at all with him.
You rest your head against the window. Recently, you surprised yourself by wanting to find a new boyfriend. For the past year, you decided to focus on your health and your studies. Having a partner would only distract you from your goals. However, today, everything seems to be on track so you don’t have any reasons to hold back. But it isn’t that easy. You’re not the type to easily make friends, but you aren’t desperate so you don’t really care right now. It’s sometimes a bit hard to be wanting someone around you and you don’t have anyone.
You leave the bus when it halts at your stop. The massive building housing the hospital stands in front of you. Recently, you’ve been coming quite often for blood tests, doctor appointments, and hospital stays. Some nurses already recognize you. This has been your reality for a year already. Your health has been a big mess even though it’s been the case for almost 10 years. Lately, it simply hasn’t been easy in between seizures caused by your epilepsy and the hormonal dysfunction coming from Hashimoto’s disease.
Hashimoto’s disease is an autoimmune disease in which your thyroid doesn’t work properly. It doesn’t produce enough thyroid hormones. On top of that, your immune system attacks your thyroid. There is of course a treatment helping your thyroid to work properly. So, in summary, the treatment has to always be working otherwise everything gets out of control.
Growing up with all that wasn’t simple, especially since you have never accepted being epileptic. Most of the time, it makes you feel like a failure so you don’t mention it to people unless it’s necessary. You don’t want anyone to look at you or treat you differently. You want to be seen as a normal person. But you’re not a normal person, and that’s what is complicated to accept.
So you work a lot, sometimes way too much. You wonder if it’s not due to the fact that you’re a people-pleaser. But in general, you just work too much to compensate for your differences. Those health issues have a lot of impact, especially on your memory. For example, it’s hard for you to remember conversations. Most of the time, people have to repeat several times the same thing for you to remember it.
At the hospital entrance, you notice Yseult, Taehyung’s sister. She’s coming out of the car to enter the building. You discreetly watch her. She looks a lot like her older brother, it’s evident that they are siblings. She also breathes money from afar, she also has that powerful aura. It seems like it’s a family thing. Before entering, she quickly scans her surroundings, almost as if she doesn’t want to be seen. It instantly arouses your curiosity. Why is she acting like that?
Instantaneously, you grab your phone to text Nari.
To Nari: Yseult is at the hospital & acting weird
You wait until Taehyung’s sister enters the building before doing the same. Well, you can’t spy on her because you have an appointment but you’re for sure very very curious.
From Nari: she’s probably just doing a check-up
She’s right. It’s nothing, it’s simply your imagination. But it still leaves you wondering why she was acting like that.
Later that night, while falling asleep, you see again Taehyung so close to your face. However, you chase away those thoughts because that man has been annoying you more than anything else.

the dorm’s heater was broken and unfortunately, winter was approaching and it was approaching fast. the days were darker and much, much colder. the boys seemed mostly unaffected by the lack of heat in the infamous bts dormitory. you on the other hand? not so much.
everyone was dressed in some type of hoodie or jacket and perhaps cuddled up next to some one to keep warm. you had slipped into your favorite sweater Jin owned, his famous pink hoodie.
the long, long on you at least, sweater had been just barely enough for the past half hour, but as the sun set and sunshine no longer shone through the blinds, shivers began to rack your body.
you closed your eyes and wrapped the blanket and sweater tighter around you. the living room was not silent, but it wasn’t hella loud either.
you could hear Overwatch being played by Jungkook and Taehyung in the background along with their slight banter. you couldn’t quite make out what they were saying, but you could hear Jimin, Hobi, and Namjoon whispering amongst themselves with Yoongi’s head on Hobi’s lap.
as you grew colder by the minute, you began to wonder where your boyfriend was at the moment.
you brought your head up, opened your eyes and looked around the room for Jin.
Jimin saw your furrowed brows and spoke up, “he’s in the kitchen, noona.”
“ahh, thanks, Chim Chim.” he smiled and hummed in reply.
you wandered into the kitchen and found Jin sitting at the island scrolling through an article on his laptop.
you found your way over to him, wrapping your arms around his waist and burying your head in his upper back.
this is what you were talkin ’ about, he was so much warmer than the couch was.
“hey there,” he murmured, tilting his head back towards you, a small smile gracing his plump lips.
“hmm,” was the only reply you could muster, finally getting some heat that you had desired.
his warmth seeped through both his and your- actually his again- sweaters. you nuzzled your face deeper into his back, humming in content at his smell and comforting presence.
“you cold, love?” he asked, feeling the chill of your hands through the soft material of his jumper.
“mhm.”
although you couldn’t see it, he smiled, removing his hands from the granite countertop to take your hands into his own.
he unlocked your hands that had intertwined with themselves and tucked them into his connected front hoodie pocket.
Jin felt you smile against his back as you intertwined your hands with each other again.
he smiles to himself thinking about how cute you are when your cuddly and continued to scroll down the Buzzfeed article that was most likely about food.

Yoongi had been working a lot more recently, composing new songs left and right. he’s been doing so amazing, along with the rest of BTS, with the recent comeback and the end of the Wings Tour.
listen, you didn’t wanna sound clingy… but goddamn, you missed yo mans. and you’d be damned if you didn’t at least try to gain his attention.
you crept into his room to see him at his computer, his black, noise canceling headphones on, light clicking noises and soft breaths being the only thing filling the quite room.
you felt bad that you were going to startle him in his peaceful, focused state… actually… no you’re not.
you wound your arms around his waist and nuzzled your head into the crook of his neck.
he jumped a little, shoving his headphones off and turning his head towards yours.
upon seeing your smiling features, he relaxed into your hold. removing his hands from the keypad and onto your hands that were still resting on his midsection.
“hey,” you mumbled into his neck.
“hey,” he murmured back, “you need something baby?”
“yes.”
“…you gonna tell me what that is, sweetheart?”
“cuddles… with you.”
“i’ve gotta finish this tr-”
“mmmmm,” you hummed loudly over his response, the vibrations cursing through the sensitive skin of his neck, making his relax further into the leather chair and your embrace.
…..
you eventually convinced him he needed a nap, which was not that hard, that boy was always down for a nap.
you sighed contently as he tightened his embrace around your waist and let out a hot puff of air onto the top of your head.
you smiled and giggled, snuggling further into his hoodie clad chest.
“what’s got you so giggly?”
“my man’s paying me attention, what’s there not to be happy about?”
he only hummed in response.
“hyung! Namjoon broke like three glasses when we were emptying the-ahhhh, my eyes! my innocent eyes!” Jungkook interrupted himself as he entered Yoongi’s room, immediately regretting it and slamming the door, running back into the kitchen.
you giggled again, and covered your mouth with one of your sweater paws in an attempt to stifle your laughter.
“I suppose you should go deal with that, babe,” you managed to get out around your giggles.
he only huffed as he unwillingly rose from his place, his has jutting out to tickle your side in an attempt to cease your teasing.
you watched him leave with a smile on your face, patiently awaiting his return.
H o s e o k

Hoseok had invited you out to dinner with the rest of the members. you had agreed vehemently, jumping at the chance to spend time with your adorable boyfriend.
getting out of the car, you laced your hand with Hobi’s, smiling up at him when he looked down at you.
entering the restaurant you felt a cold shiver wrack your body. you wrap your arms around the muscular arm that beheld the hand you were holding earlier and cuddle into his shoulder.
the eight of you were set at a table towards the back near a window, the lighting very dim and the moonlight cascading down through the window onto the glittering champagne glasses, creating a relaxing ambiance.
as everyone looks at the menu you subtly nuzzle your fave into the crook of Hobi’s neck.
he looks down at you, “are you okay, love?”
you nod against his neck, “it’s just cold in here.”
he chuckled at you and shrugs off his red jacket, “for you m’lady”
“aww, Hobi! that’s so sweet, thank you,” you aww over his gentlemanly-ness and his good hearted nature.
…
as dinner was served and the meal was in full swing, conversation flurrying around the table, you found yourself looking out the window.
you weren’t antisocial, it’s not that you didn’t like the other members - you loved them with all your heart - you were just… sleepy.
the weight of Hoseok’s jacket on your shoulders, the sent of him wafting off the jacket along with the aroma of the dinner laid on the table in front of you, and the warmth of Hobi’s hand on your thigh made you begin to feel sleepy.
when you were sleepy, you became needy. not sexual needy, but affection needy, and not only affection needy- but Hobi’s affection needy.
your hand slithers from its place on top of Hobi’s hand that’s ontop of your thigh into the crook of his elbow and lift your head from the window onto his shoulder and sigh contently.
he gives you a side glance, then looks back up at Taehyung putting one finger up indicating to give him a second to speak to you.
“are you sleepy, jagiya?”
“mhm.”
“we’re almost done, sweetheart, then I’m all yours,” he hums, kissing the top of your head.
“awww, hyung, your so good to her, where can I find a man like you?” Taehyung giggles, his boxy smile manifesting on his flawless face.
you smile sleeply and burry your face deeper into Hoseok’s shoulder.
…
the two of you had eventually found your way into bed, his arms wound tightly around you and you head buried in his chest and your breaths slow and even, neither of you caring about all the commotion rumbling outside in the dorm’s living room.
N A M J O O N

Namjoon was driving the two of you back from the studio in your car. you had come to visit him and bring him some dinner and wait for him to finish up whatever he was doing at that moment.
you were pretty sleepy, the two of you hadn’t gotten much sleep last night. he’d kept you up with multiple orgasms last night, hey - you weren’t complaining! but despite your love for orgasms, and your dominant boyfriend, he wore you the fuck out.
Namjoon’s thumb began rubbing slow circles on your jean clad knee, his other hand staying at 12 o’clock on the steering wheel.
the combination of his slow circles and the soft music on the radio lulled you into a light sleep, your head rolling to lay on the car window.
“baby, we’re home, it’s time to wake up,” Namjoon’s soft voice and light shake of your shoulder rose you from your peaceful slumber.
once you came to, you brought your loosely curled fists to your eyes and rubbed your eyes lightly. you opened you eyes to see Namjoon to your right, you door open and him crouching down to your level between the car and the car door.
“hey,” he whispered, wanting more than anything not to startle you in your adorable sleepy state.
“wassup,” you slurred back, your brain not yet functioning properly.
“let’s get you inside, yeah?” he murmured to you and he reached over your waking form to unbuckle your seatbelt.
you giggle as his hands brushed your side and his head rests on your breasts for a split second.
he managed to get past your grumbles of ‘i can do it myself, Joonie’ and helped you out of the car. as soon as your sneakers hit the pavement of the driveway and the car door was shut, Namjoon literally swept you off your feet and carried you bridal style into the dorms.
once you were safely in Namjoon’s room, after he had to endure the plethora of teasing from the other members.
‘Ahhh hyung!!’
‘cute… I guess’
‘you carry that princess, boi!’ ‘you do too much, Tae’
Namjoon being the gentleman he was, he asked if it was okay to undress you and redress you for bed, you said “boy, you can do more than undress me tONIGHT, if you know what I mean!” then proceeded to plop down onto his bed and burry your head into the pillows.
he took that as a yes.
once he dressed you in a cozy hoodie of his- which was very hard by the way, you continually made grabby hands at him and latching onto his shirt, tugging at the material in an attempt to get him to lay on top of you and cuddle, he slipped into his basketball shorts and stole away into the covers with you.
he pulled you closer by your waist, your head immediately nuzzling into his neck, his sent filling your nose instantly, his almost, and I mean almost, unbearable warmth lulling your right back to sleep.

Meant to be Yours (TAEHYUNG X READER)
Pairing: Taehyung x reader
Word count: 3.8k
Genre: Highschool!au
Warning: actual shit post. Musical singing shit, Heather's references, LOTS of swearing, mentions domestic abuse and self harm.
Description: What was meant to be a peaceful night of singing to yourself, quickly turned to an emotional shit fest
You were alone. The only sound to be heard was the clacking of your shoes on the hard tile. It was long after hours, and no one was at the school. Even the creepy janitor had left at this point. Even though high school was shit, you couldn't help but feel safe in the empty hallway.Your home life wasn't very good.
Over the years a great divide grew between you and your parents, especially your dad. He had never done anything huge to really throw you off, but little things happened that bothered you. When you were two, he dropped you face first onto concrete. When you were seven he bound you with duct tape and left you out in the sun for an hour. When you were eleven, he screamed at you and called you a bitch. But it could have been worse.
School was safer than home, and being in such a giant place alone gave you a sense of peace. The hallways seemed to go on forever as you walked towards the auditorium. When everyone was gone you would lie on the stage floor and just sing as loud as you could. Those nights often ended with you curled up in a ball, trying not to fall apart.
Mental illness had been something you've struggled with all your life, but it really got noticeable in 7th grade. You had just moved to a new middle school. The change was hard, and the people at your new school weren't the nicest. There was only one girl that cared about your well being, your old best friend Nana. She introduced you to the world of musicals. Of course you had listened to music before, but she got you hooked, obsessed with it. It was your savior.
You walked down the familiar hallway, humming the tune to whatever song was playing through your earbuds. Your fingers moved with each note of the song. The auditorium doors came into view as you progressed down the hallway.
The clacking stopped, and you halted in front of the doors. You held your hand just over the handle, a tingle shot through your arm, as excitement collected in your chest. You placed your hand on the cool metal handle ready to pull open the door, when you heard something. A voice, it was singing? What the hell? No one else is ever here. You placed your ear against the door, eager to see what was being sang. “You chucked me out like I was trash, for that you should be dead. But, but but” a male voice echoed through the auditorium, making the whole experience more ethereal. Wait, you recognized the song. It was from one of your favorite musicals. How didn't I recognize it sooner? You questioned yourself. Slowly, you pulled open the door, peeking through to see whom the voice belonged to.
Your eyes landed on a boy. He stood on the stage pacing back and forth as he sang. You slid through the door, and sat in the back row of seats, praying he wouldn't notice you. He was mesmerizing, his light blond hair was vibrant despite the dark lighting, and when he closed his eyes to hit the high notes, it like you had taken a step into visual heaven. I need to get closer, who is this? You snuck up a few rows, his voice getting louder every step you took. He continued singing, while you went completely unnoticed.
You finally got a good look at his face, and he was gorgeous. He had striking features, with a jawline that could kill. You recognized him, Kim Taehyung. He was a Junior at your school. He was also part of a small all boys choir group. Although he wasn't the leader, he often lead his team to victory at singing competitions. Almost every girl in the school wanted to see him sing, and here you were with a private show. Holy shit am I lucky.
You hadn’t realized how much you had zoned out, when he began on the last few lines of the song. “Please don't leave me alone” a tear fell, almost going unnoticed, but you saw it. “You were all I could trust” he fell to his knees, “I can't do this alone.” he stood back up “Still I will if I must!”
There were a few moments of silence, you wanted to stay in the shadows, but you couldn't help yourself. “I wanted someone strong who could protect me”. The lyrics spilled out of your lips eloquently. Taehyung snapped his head in your direction. You could see the confusion on his face but you continued. “I let his anger fester and infect me. His solution is a lie, no one here deserves to die, except for me and the monster I've created. Yeah, yeah!” You paused, glancing up at him. He had a giant grin on his face, his eyes turned into little crescent moons. You felt fire engulf your face as you continued . “Heads up JD I’m a dead girl walking. Can't hide from me I'm a dead girl walking. And there's your final bell, it's one more dance and then farewell, cheek to cheek in hell with a dead girl walking!”
Taehyung was pleasantly surprised by your high note, for you had hit it perfectly. He found the way you scrunched up your face and closed your eyes as you sang endearing. You looked at him in anticipation, before he started to yell “Come on Westerburg, here we go here we go now!” Your eyes widened, despite his high notes, his voice was pretty deep.
You grinned at him, and hopped up on stage as he continued the scene. “ Veronica! Jason Dean told me you'd just committed suicide!” He exclaimed at you, waving his hands in the air in an attempt to portray the frazzled teacher. “Yeah.” you started, “Well he’s wrong about a lot of things” You smiled as the lines fell out of your mouth. “I threw together a lovely tribute, especially given the short notice”. Taehyung was an amazing actor. He hit every tone right, even though you were only speaking.
“Ms. Fleming, what's under the gym?” you questioned, “the boiler room” he replied while trying to hide a smile, failing miserably. “That's it” you said, turning around to walk away. Taehyung grabbed your hand and spun you around “Veronica, what’s going on” his tone meant to be serious, but he was borderline laughing. You pushed his hands away, and dramatically spun around “Got no time to talk i'm a dead girl walking!” You flipped your hair in a sassy manner, and skipped away from him.
The two of you started to jump around the stage while you sang the chorus. Taehyung started doing high kicks, while you attempted a cartwheel. “Hey yo Westerberg! Hey yo Westerberg! Tell me what's that sound? Here comes Westerberg Comin' to put you in the ground! Go go Westerberg! Give a great big yell! Westerberg will knock you out and send you straight to hell!”
You ran to the side stage and picked up a croquet mallet, then tossed Taehyung a prop gun.The two of you walked to opposite sides of the stage, backs facing each other.
You turned around to face (JD) Taehyung. “Step away from the bomb.”you forcefully said, while taking steps closer to him. Taehyung laughed, “This little thing?” He turned around to face you. All traces of his previous giddiness gone. Damn Taehyung is a good actor. “I'd hardly call this a bomb. This is just to trigger the packs of thermals upstairs in the gym.”
He paused for dramatic effect, before stepping closer to you. “Those are bombs. People are going to see the ashes of Westerberg high school and think there's a school that self-destructed not because society didn't care, But because that school was society. The only place Heather's and Martha's can truly get along is in Heaven!”. He swung his head and faced away from you.
Taehyung turned to you, and you were met with the barrel of his gun. Your acting was perhaps to good, because you noticed tears dripping down your own face, and Taehyung’s eyes were turning glassy. Ignoring the gun in your face, you gripped his collar and pulled him a little closer.“ I wish your mom had been a little stronger. I wish she stayed around a little longer.” Full blown tears were now running down Taehyung’s face, neither of you just acting.
Somewhere within those few short minutes, the lyrics hit home for both of you. You removed your hands from his collar, and instead placed them gently on his cheeks. “ I wish your dad were good! I wish grown-ups understood! I wish we met before they convinced you life is war!I wish you'd come with me—”, “I wish I had more TNT!” Taehyung exclaimed, pulling himself from your grip. The action made your chest tighten up. We were just singing, I didn't mean for it to end like this.
Neither of you sang the final verse. You zoned out, recalling all that had happened in the past 10 minutes. The clatter of hard plastic on the floor rang throughout the room. The sudden cacophony pulled you from your trance. You looked up to see Taehyung still facing away from you, the only thing different was the prop gun now lying on the floor. You wanted to say something, to apologize, but you couldn't. Before you realized what was happening your arms were wrapped around his waist, and you were pressing your face into his back.
“You make a pretty good Veronica”, he said sadly, turning to look at you. You blushed taken back by the comment. You hadn't realized just how close the two of you were until just now. “I would say you make a great JD, but I don't really want to see you end up dead”. He let out a shaky laugh, but it was genuine.
The backs of his hands met his eyes, as he wiped away the salty tears that had just graced his features. “I’m sorry we had to meet this way. I’m Kim Taehyung by the way, It’s nice to meet you.” He stuck his hand out for you to shake. “It’s nice to meet you too Kim Taehyung, I’m (Y/n) (L/n)”. You let go of his hand, before wiping away the streaks that were drying on your face.
“So (Y/n), why are you here after school, watching me sing”. He said, laying back on the wooden stage. “I could ask you the same thing. I’ve been coming here every night since the beginning of the semester.” you stopped, looking up at him for an answer. “I love my parents, but each day’s another fight. If I stopped smoking pot then everything might be alright” he admitted, before looking at the floor in defeat. He could feel another round of tears coming on when something stopped him. You were laughing? “You’re quoting Dear Evan Hansen right?” you blurted, before letting out a few awkward giggles, realizing he wasn't laughing with you. “Oh shit i’m sorry, it's just you basically quoted one of my favorite songs..” you paused. You wrung your hands, and rubbed at your knuckles. A nervous habit you had formed over the years. You felt tears sting at the back of your eyes, an indicator that they were about to fall.“Taehyung I’m so-” you were cut off by one of his arms wrapping around your waist, the other pushing your head into his chest.
The tears that had started to form in your eyes dried up, as Taehyung was just letting his fall. You could feel a tear drop onto your collar bone before he started shaking. The poor boy was falling apart around you. You moved your arms from underneath his and wrapped them around his neck. Who hurt you was all you could think, who hurt this boy so bad that he is now falling apart in my arms. Me, a stranger, someone he just met. What happened so that only a song could get him so upset.
The two of you stayed in each other’s arms for what felt like forever. You could feel and hear how fast Taehyung’s heart was beating. Slowly the quiet sobs that had been escaping his trembling lips came to a stop. He pulled away. You frowned at the lack of contact. “Taehyung-” you took in a deep breath. Your mind was racing a million miles a minute and you didn't know what to do. Comforting people wasn't exactly your forte.
“Please can you tell me what’s wrong” you put your hand on his shoulder. You glanced up at his face. It was still puffy from his crying. Taehyung took a deep breath before speaking.
“I’m just having a really hard time right now…” he paused, as if he were going to say something else, but it never came. “Taehyung, I know that’s not the whole story. Please, I know i'm not the most ideal person to be talking to, but I think telling someone could be beneficial”. You croaked out. You pulled your arm away and crossed them. Taehyung sighed, he knew you weren't going to let this go.
Taehyung reached for the edge of his sweater, simultaneously pulling of the black hoodie and the grey undershirt. You stood there unfazed, although pleasantly surprised with his statuesque figure. Taehyung expected for you to be a blushing stuttering mess, but you just stood there .
You let your eyes rake over his figure, but something stopped you. Your eyes focused on a pattern of deep bruises, and crusted over lacerations. All of them seemed fairly recent, but you didn't see any scars so this had to be a new occurrence. You stepped forward, and held out your hand. Your fingertips ghosted over one of the bruises on his ribs, but pulled back when Taehyung flinched. “Who did this”, those three words came out harsher than you intended, but they came out nonetheless.
Taehyung sighed and raked his fingers through his honey golden hair. “It’s my dad…” he stopped and collected himself “He get’s drunk a lot, and there's nothing I can really do”. You looked at him with sympathy. “It used to just be verbal, but he’s started to get physical. I saw him about to slap my younger sister so i pushed him. Since then I've kinda been his punching bag” He took a deep breath in, and prepared himself for the words you were about to spill. “There has to be someone you can tell right? I mean, at least alert child services!” you voiced out to him. Taehyung looked at you, sadness filled his eyes. “You are actually the first person I’ve ever told. I don't really have anyone else to tell. My mom passed away a while back, and my dad is our only source of income. If he was taken away, then I would have no source of income. I have a younger sister, he’s in your grade actually… I couldn't risk having her teenage years being squandered by foster cares, or orphanages.”
Some time in the allotment that Taehyung was speaking, your jaw had dropped. You couldn't believe it. “Taehyung, I understand the want and need to protect your younger sister, but this… this isn't healthy!” you ranted. A warm feeling started to bubble up in your stomach. It wasn't love, or excitement, but fear and anger. Your fingertips ran through your hair before tugging on it harshly. You knew all too well what it was like to live in an abusive household. “Taehyung, I can’t let you do this to yourself. Even if you hate me, I have to tell someone!” you barked out at him. Your hands retreated from your hair before curling up into fists. You dug your fingernails hard into the soft flesh of your palm. You felt a trickle of blood run down your hand, a sign that your fingernails had broken the skin.
Taehyung felt anxiety bloom in his chest. That anxiety quickly turned to anger. “Yeah, well what about you! You always wear long sleeves despite the weather, and never once have you worn something longer than pants!” He hissed at you, he had already put his hoodie back on and was advancing towards you.
“Who are you to judge my fashion choices” you quipped back at him. But you knew he was right. Your fashion choices were chosen solely around the ugly scars that graced your skin. You backed away from him.You wanted your face to demonstrate anger, but all it could muster was fear. Taehyung didn't seem to notice, because he kept stepping towards you.
“I bet, you have just as many bruises as I do, if not more! I bet your parents don’t even love you, you are just a burden and a waste of money!” he gestured his arms angrily in the air. You took a deep breath, and took a step towards the seething boy. “No, I don’t. My parents are dysfunctional, but they love me. Why are you getting so defensive I just want to help you!” the words slipped from your mouth harshly, but there was no falter, as if you hadn't been a stuttering mess just moments before. He scoffed and turned away from you, obviously still seething.
You sighed, before pulling at the hem of your shirt. You lifted it above your head and tossed it to the floor. “Taehyung” you said angrily. He turned around to look at you. His eyes met yours before drifting downwards. His eyes widened and jaw dropped. He couldn't stop looking at your ribs and stomach. Two large hypertrophic scars curved up your stomach, ending right at your sternum. He looked away from the larger scars to a few white scars that ran horizontally against your ribs. They were obviously self inflicted.
Taehyung’s eyes moved away from your rib cage, to your arms. Deep pinks scars ran up your arms. They were erratic, and unorganized. They obviously weren't placed there purposely. He couldn't say anything, he just stared. You started to move towards where you had tossed your shirt, before sliding it back on.
“Are you fucking happy now? Are you happy to know, that if I did one thing wrong I would be whipped with a belt, or with a power cord? Is it satisfying for you to know that I will never again feel normal or beautiful because I was in a fatal car crash that left me disfigured and ugly?” you snapped at the boy in front of you. He just looked at you, the anger he had previously felt, quickly simmering into guilt.
You turned around and rushed out of the auditorium. The night had turned sour fast. What was supposed to be a peaceful night away from hell, had turned into a stressful, anxiety provoking shit fest.
“(Y/n)!” you heard a voice call from the auditorium. “(Y/n), wait! I’m sorry! What I said was stupid, just please come back!” despite the pleas from behind you, you kept moving.
Taehyung watched as you turned a corner down the hallway. “(Y/n), please come back. I'm sorry” this time the words left his mouth barely a whisper.
Taehyung arrived at school the next day hoping he would see you in the hallway. He had to find you. He needed to apologize, or do whatever necessary to win your acceptance. One of Taehyung’s friends walked down the hallway, the same hallway you had left him in last night.
“Taehyung, what's up!” a voice called out from behind him. He turned to see one his friend running towards him. “Oh, hey Jimin hyung” Taehyung tried to procure a smile that wouldn't allude to that anything was wrong. Lucky Jimin was oblivious to the pain his friend was feeling.
“Yo man, we missed you at Jin’s house last night… You never miss movie night”. Taehyung just shrugged and dealt out a half assed excuse that Jimin seemed to buy.
Taehyung progressed through the day but he didn't see you once. Neither of you had classes together, but he at least usually saw you in the hallway. Before he knew it, the final bell was ringing signaling him it was time to leave. Just as he was walking out he saw the second best person he could hope to see.
You laid curled up in a ball under the covers. You haven't moved from this position since the night before. Earlier that morning your parents came up to get you to go to school. They screamed at you, telling you that if you didn't get up you were a failure and a disgrace, but you didn't budge.
Hours past before buzzing erupted throughout the room. You stuck out your hand and felt around for the small rectangle device, before grasping onto it. You brought it in front of your face to see who was calling. It was a number you didn't recognize, but you answered it nevertheless.
“Hello?” you croaked out, your voice faltering from the lack of speaking all day long. “Y/n? Holy shit I’m really sorry about what happened yesterday. I was upset and I didn't mean it and-” you cut the voice off. “Taehyung, how did you get my number?” you asked, already feeling annoyance bubble up in your stomach. “Oh, uh Nana gave it to me”. ‘God fucking damn it Nana’ you thought, but you were too tired to be angry at your best friend.
There were a few moments of silence before Taehyung began to speak again. “Also I’m kinda outside your house so if you could let me in that would be great.” What! If you had been drinking anything, if would have flown out your nose and mouth, but instead you were just coughing and sputtering like a fish out of water. You hung up on Taehyung and ran to the front door.
You opened the door to see Taehyung standing with a plastic bag filled with junk food. “Dude, you can’t be here, how did you even get my address?” you questioned. He gave you a boxy smile before answering “Nana is an amazing resource”. You gripped the bridge of your nose with an excruciating grip. “And you are here for what purpose exactly?” you sighed, secretly hoping that he would be there to stay. “To cheer you up of course!”
Taehyung smiled at you again as you stepped away from the door, allowing him in. His personality had taken a complete 180 from when you had last talked. Last night he was a brooding, angst teen, but now he was a happy go lucky boy.
Taehyung immediately ran to the kitchen, before putting the assortment of snacks on the counter. “I wasn’t sure what snacks you liked the best, soooo I got all of them”. You couldn't help but smile at the sweet gesture. He just seemed so... genuine. “Thank you Taehyung” you said, you couldn't help but smile.
The day had progressed and the two of you fell in and out of deep conversations, laughing at your favorite songs, and talking about your favorite tv shows.
You glanced down at your phone. 6:35. “Oh shit!” you yelled “Taehyung you gotta leave, my parents will be home any minute now” he glanced up at you and gave you a knowing look before gathering all of the garbage.
You heard the front door rattling, and you started to panic. “Okay, lets go to the back door”. You lead him to the other exit and once you opened the door, he refused to move. Taehyung looked at you with worry. “If they ever hurt you, in any way, please just leave and come get me. I will always be here for you”. You smiled and your eyes started to tear up.
You began to utter out a thanks but he cut you off. He pressed his lips gently against yours before cupping your face. “See you later Veronica” he smiled and waved running out into your backyard. You smiled, a giddy feeling bubbling up in your chest.A feeling you haven't experienced in forever.
Bye JD
