An update of a steampunk respirator mask I designed as a commission. The first iteration turned out substantially larger than intended, so I redid the sizing. I think this one works well.

The commissioner asked for a gold-colored chain to hold it on instead of the leather cord I normally use. So I did that in anodized aluminum with stretchy white rubber rings. I think it's a bit more awkward and fiddly to put on, but it does look good with this aesthetic.

I've been really busy for the last couple weeks getting ready for a convention I'll be vending at next weekend, and haven't had much chance to post photos of things. So I thought I'd just post a couple in-progress shots to prove that I'm still alive. Here we've got some studded bracers (showing the front and the underside); a bracer with a celtic knot pattern cut through; and what will become a cover for a small Moleskine notebook, similar to this one. (This one I made just for myself. The interrobang is my favorite punctuation mark. It's used when you're both excited and unsure.)

I already talked about Nauticon in a previous post, so I won't go on too much about it. It promises to be raucous and  bawdy, and I think it'll be a lot of fun. I've still got a good amount of work left to get ready for it, but the goal is in sight.

I made a batch of the glasses-compatible masks that I recently designed. The first one was just cut by hand late one night, but I CADed the design up and laser-cut these all in a batch.

I'm thinking about some more complex designs that could be adapted to this template, but I'm happy with this for what it is. There's world definitely has a need for a standard-issue domino mask that people who wear glasses can wear.

Here's the most recent tail commission I completed. Brown (anodized aluminum) background with black (anodized aluminum) mottled stripes, and standard silvery aluminum on the underside. It measures 32 inches long, and has a lobster clasp at the tip for attaching things to.

I decided to take some progress photos of this as I was building it, so I have a nice sequence that I'll be uploading soon. It won't be a full tutorial, but maybe it'll be some help for people who keep asking me for instructions.

A goth-punk set of spiked collar and armbands I made for a themed party/LARP. They're made of 1 inch wide leather bands, stained black, with mirror-finish nickel-plated spikes, buckles and rivets. The cone spikes are sized at 1 inch, 1/2 inch, and short.

I think they look cool, but I don't really know if I'll have much chance to wear them. I should maybe convince some friends to all mob to a goth club or something.

I enjoyed making them, but I think I likely won't work very hard to sell them or similar pieces. They aren't very much in genre with most of my other stuff, and they're not super original or anything. I feel like there isn't much reason for someone to go to me to make these rather than just going to Hot Topic or wherever. Of course, I could be convinced otherwise. And I might play around with more inventive designs in this sort of vein.

Just showing off a new color that I found. I've been using some interference acrylic paints to get an iridescent sort of color on certain pieces. (The paint is made with tiny flecks of mica in it.) I have a green and a blue version of it, and they work nicely painted over black. (I primarily use it on the bubble-wave cuff I make, because I think of it as an oceanic sort of design.)

I've not been super excited about the paint when used over blue or green, though. But last time I was making a big pile of bracelets for a craft fair I decided to try the interference blue over purple. And it was fantastic.

So I'm going to start offering this as a standard color. Iridescent purple.
