it is well known that the fifth house deals with creation - specifically in reference to creativity, fertility, and children. on the cusp of the fifth house sits the fourth, which talks about our roots - family, emotions, foundations, and (again) children.

with these facts in mind, it's possible that the sign on the cusp of our fifth house (the sign in our fourth house) was the rising sign we had in our past lives, and the rest of our chart would follow in sequential order with placements also falling in. so, it would be as follows:

despite the actual placements of planets most likely being different, the way the planets are situated in the chart can still reveal information about your past life.

for example, i know some possible information from my past life due to readings i’ve received from others. one major piece of my life seemed to be that i lived in my mind a lot; i had all kinds of dreams of what i wanted to do in life and say, but never really followed through when it came to actually taking actions towards them.

on the right side birth chart (the hypothetical one), the planet neptune sits in the third house. neptune is a planet dealing with dreams, imagination, and delusions while the third house is the house of communication - this is confirmation of my rich inner world and ideas.

on the other hand, the moon is associated with emotions and instinct while mars deals with action and ambition. with my moon in the twelfth house, i probably kept my emotions and thoughts to myself; with mars’ presence in the fourth house (a house associated with cancer), my ambition might’ve been somewhat silenced. both of these placements are confirmation of a lack of action towards my goals and dreams.

you can do this exact same process of going through your hypothetical past life chart and put things together to find out how your life went before you became who you are right now!

after using your hypothetical chart to figure out details on your past life, you can also use arabic lots to discover even more!

arabic lots are based on calculations of various astrological factors that can be combined in order to uncover other themes in your chart that the planets alone can not tell you. for example, the most well known lot - part of fortune - is calculated by looking at one’s ascendant, sun, and moon. the sun and ascendant can naturally tell us about our life’s motivation, while the moon tells about our deeper desires, so it’s understandable that a formula taking all of them into account tells us about where we will find success in life! (i also want to point out that the ascendant is the first house, the sun is associated with the fifth house, and the moon is connected to the fourth house - this coincidentally adds up to ten [aka the house associated with our midheaven / reputation in the professional world]).

one lot you could look at is named “Anareta” or “Taker of Life”. this could explain how you died in your past life. Anareta is calculated by looking at one’s ascendant, moon, and ascendant ruler. the word “anareta” has Greek roots lending itself to the word “destroyer” in English. oftentimes, astrologers say anareta can explain destructive behavior, which makes sense as the moon deals with our instincts. it furthermore makes sense that it went on to be a possible indicator of death as our destructive behaviors can lead to death if we allow them to overtake us.

to calculate where a lot sits in your chart, it’s easiest to use an arabic lots calculator. i personally use astro-seek’s because they make it easy to understand all the complex planets, rulers, houses, and more that can be used for a lot calculation.

if you were born in the day time (AM), the calculation would go as follows:

ascendant (ASC) + moon - ruler of ascendant

if you were born at night (PM), the calculation would have the + and - flipped:

ascendant (ASC) + ruler of ascendant - moon

my own placement for this lot is virgo in the second house at 28 and a saturn decan. it also happens to be the exact same placement for my part of fortune. curiously, i’ve been told that in one of my past lives i died because of religious persecution or because of voicing my thoughts that went against tradition. the anareta placement falls in line with that assessment.

as you find out more and more about your past life through looking at your current chart, analyzing your current life and struggles, visualizing your hypothetical past life chart, and looking at basic lots that connect to your past life (like anareta), you can eventually start to piece the puzzle together in order to figure out exactly what you need to overcome in this lifetime in order to be the best version of yourself.
