Dead in the water part 3
Season One. Episode Four.
Phantom Traveler (Part 1)

You groaned when a ringtone of a phone woke you up. You rolled over, ready to kill whoever it was, you just fell asleep half an hour ago so whoever it was, they better have a good reason. You picked up the phone from the nightstand and realized is wasn't even your phone. You glared at it as it kept ringing then you burst out of your motel room, not caring you were only wearing a pair of tank top and boy shorts and your hair was like a bird's nest.
You started banging on the boy's door with both of your hands. Sam opened up looking at you like he saw a ghost which was practically true because you looked scarier than a ghost right now.
You stormed inside past him and the phone started ringing again. "Who's phone is this?" You asked glaring at both the boys as you stood in front of them.
"It's mine, but I really wish it wasn't...please don't kill me." Dean admitted and you threw his phone at him and he caught it as you sat beside Sam on the bed opposite to Dean. "Hello?" Said as he picked up the call.
"Ask him if he would rather be choked to death or stabbed to death."
"Here." Sam handed you his coffee as soon as those words left your mouth. You took a sip and calmed down instantly, your eyes closed at the heavenly bitter sweet taste of coffee, Sam raised an eyebrow at the change of your mood.
"Oh, right, yeah, up in Kittanning, Pennsylvania. The poltergeist thing. It's not back, is it?" Dean said to the person ok the other side of the phone and you looked at him with curiosity. "What is it?" After that Dean hung up.
"Who was it?" You asked.
"Depends. Are you gonna kill him?" He asked with an raised eyebrow.
"No, now that Sam gave me coffee I'm able to think rationally and I think I would rather kill you for leaving your phone in my room." You said but smiled sweetly at the end.
"Oh I'm too adorable to be killed."
"Dude, if you don't tell us who he was she might." Sam replied.
"It was Jerry Panowski, Dad and I worked a case for him in Pennsylvania two years back. He needs my help again." Dean said looking alternatively at you and Sam. "He thinks there might be something supernatural going on."
"Ok." Sam said getting up and grabbing his jacket. "You guys get ready, I'll go stuff the car." He grabbed the weapon bag and walked out of the motel room.
"Wait we are going? Right now?" You asked but all you got in return was the sound of him shutting the door on his way out. "I guess that's a yes." You said to yourself and turn back to look at Dean who was already staring at you.
The tension was building back up in the room since it was the first time the two of you were alone in a room after your fight, or whatever it was.
"So you heard anything from bobby lately?" Dean asked after seconds of silence.
"Seriously, Dean? Small talks?" You raised an eyebrow.
"Well, how else am I suppose to know you're not mad at me."
"You're still alive, and in one piece, that's how you know I'm not still mad at you." You replied with a smirk and a smile made a way to his lips as well.
"So we're good?"
"We're good. And actually I thought about it and I overreacted. I was throwing a tantrum like a brat. I'm sorry." You apologised.
"Yah, you were acting like a little brat that day but-" he stopped when he saw the glare you were throwing at his way. "What? You just said that yourself." He tried to defend himself.
"Yeah, I can say that about myself, but you're not allowed to do that. Oh my god, how do you ever get girls." You shook your head.
"Well, I do have a very charming face." He said with a grin that made you chuckle. 'god! Does he have to be so cute.' you groaned to yourself in your mind.
"Okay, so I'm gonna go and pack up my shit." You said before standing up and going toward the door.
"Alex." Dean stopped you and you turned around to see him holding out his flannel. You gave him a confused look and he replied with a smirk.
"Your shirt is see through." His words made your eyes widen and you let out a gasp, quickly grabbing the shirt from him and wrapping it around yourself.
"And neither of you thought about mentioning that a little earlier." You glared at him and the last thing you heard before closing the door behind you was, "can't blame a guy for enjoying the show." It made you blush but thank God no one was around to see it.
The drive to Pennsylvania wasn't that long since you guys were staying just out of the town. Dean pulled up to the airport and a bald middle aged guy greeted you as soon as you got out of the car. You suppose it was Jerry Panowski.
"Thanks for making the trip so quick. I ought to be doing you guys favor, not the other way around. " He said as he let the three of you through the airport. "Dean and John really helped me out." He informed looking at Sam and you.
"Yeah, he told us. It was a poltergeist?"
"Poltergeist? Man, I love that movie." You heard one the worker say as he heard Sam.
"Hey, nobody's talking to you. Keep working." Jerry scolded the man before answering Sam. "Damn right it was a poltergeist, practically tore our house apart. Tell you something, if it wasn't for you and your dad, I probably wouldn't be alive." Jerry said directing his words towards Dean and he looked at you and Sam with arrogant smile on his face.
"Your dad said you were off to college, is that right?" Jerry continued.
"Yeah, I was. I'm taking some time off." Sam answered.
"He was real proud of you. I could tell. He talked about you all the time." Jerry said and you gave Sam an 'i told you so' smile.
"He did?" He asked, surprised by the information.
"Yeah, you bet he did. Oh hey, you know, I tried to get a hold of him, but I couldn't. How's he doing anyway?" He asked and you looked at Dean curious for his answer.
"He's, um, wrapped up in a job right now." Dean answered.
"Well, we're missing the old man. We get Alex and Sam, even trade, huh?" He said and you chuckled before saying.
"No, not by a long shot."
"I got something I want you guys to hear." He lead you to his office and shut it behind him once you guys were inside. "I listened to this, well, it sounded like it was up your alley." He said putting a CD in a player for you to hear. "Normally I wouldn't have access to this. It's the cockpit voice recorder for United Britannia, flight 2485. It was one of ours." He told you before pressing the play button.
"Mayday! Mayday! Repeat, this is United Britannia flight 2485, requesting immediate...help." the man on the tape said before it turned into a chatter that you couldn't understand very well. There was some loud growling heard before it turned into a chatter that you couldn't understand very well. There was some loud growling heard before the audio stops. You looked at the boys who were sitting on either side of you.
"Took off from here, crashed about 200 miles south. Now, they're saying mechanical failure. 'the cabin depressurized somehow. Nobody knows why.' over 100 people on board. Only seven got out alive. The pilot was one. His name is Chuck Lambert, he's a good friend of mine. Chuck is, uh..well, he's pretty broken about it, like it was his fault."
"You don't think it was?" Sam questioned.
"No, I don't." He replied with confidence.
"Jerry, we're gonna need passenger manifest, a list of survivors--" you started listing but Sam cut you off.
"Right. And any way we can take a look at the wreckage?" He asked and you looked back to Jerry for answer.
"The other stuff is no problem, but the wreckage...Fellas, the NTSB has it locked down in an evidence warehouse, no way I've got that kind of clearance." Dean thought about it for a second the shook is head saying. "No problem."
Dean drove you to the nearest copy centre, you and Sam decided to stand outside as Dean went inside to make you guys some fake IDs.
"So, you wanna talk about it?" Sam said breaking the silence.
"Talk about what?" You asked even though you know exactly what he was talking about.
"You know what." He pressed but you continued playing dumb. "I was up all night last night and I know for a fact that you were too. And for a heads up, the next time you cry don't press a pillow over your face, it doesn't work, I could still hear you loud and clear." He said and You turned away, not daring to look him in the eyes.
"I wasn't crying." You stated, more like lied.
"Look me in the eyes and say that again." He challenged and you looked away giving him his answer. "That's what I thought."
"Did Dean hear?" Were the next words that left your mouth. "No. He didn't but if he was awake he would have." You sighed in relief.
"Look you can't tell him." You say as you finally make eye contact with him. "He already has a lot on his mind, I don't want to worry him over this too." He nodded in agreement.
"Was it another nightmare?" He asked and you answered with a nod "about what?"
"The usual drill, my mom, Jessica... I saw Bobby die a hundredth time this week." You answered, leaving out the main reason of your nightmares...your own father.
"You wanna talk about it?"
"No, not really."
"Alex, just know that it's Ok to cry, it doesn't make you weak, it makes you human." He said making you smile and then you wrapped your arms around his neck hugging him tightly. "Next time you feel like crying? Call me over, we'll cry together." He said making you giggle.
"What are we celebrating?" You pulled away from the younger Winchester when you heard Dean's voice behind you.
"Took you long enough."
"You've been in there forever." You and Sam said at the same time, ignoring his question. He gave a look to both of you but decided to let it go.
"You can't rush perfection." He said pulling out 3 ID cards.
"Homeland security? That's pretty illegal, even for us." Sam said and Dean handed your card to you.
"Yeah, well, it's something new, you know? People haven't seen it a thousand times." He said getting inside the car. You and Sam followed him and got in the car as well.
"Alright, so, what you guys got?"
"Well, there's definitely EVP on the cockpit voice recorder." Sam said.
"Yeah?"
"Listen." Sam played the audio on his laptop and all you could hear was high laptop and all you could hear was high-pitched statics. 'no survivors!' you heard a woman's voice.
"No survivors?" Dean repeated. "What's that supposed to mean? There were 7 survivors."
"It got me."
"So what are you thinking? A haunted flight?"
"There's a long history of spirits and death omens on planes and ships, like phantom travelers or remember flight 401?" You asked the boys.
"Right the one the crashed. The airlines salvanged some of its parts put it in another plane, then the spirit of the pilots haunted those flights." Dean answered.
"Right. Maybe we got similar deal." Sam said.
"So, survivors, which one do you guys want to talk to first?"
"Third on the list, Max Jaffey, he's from around here and if anyone saw anything weird, he did." You said leaning back on the car seat.
"Why's that?" Dean asked.
"I spoke to his mother and she told me where to find him."
"Where?" Both the boys ask in unison.
"Riverfront psychiatric hospital." You said and that was enough of an explanation.
"Max Jaffey? We are from Homeland security, we're here to talk about the plane crash." Dean said, introducing the three of you to Max.
Dean started the car and you made your way toward the private care facility. A few minutes later Dean finally pulled up in front of riverfront. All three of you went inside, pulling out your IDs, asking to see Max. A woman led you up to Max, who was standing in front of the garden.
"I don't understand, I already talked to Homeland security." He said as the 4 of you started walking.
"Right, some new information has come up. So if you could just answer a couple questions." Explained Dean. "Just before the plane went down, did you notice anything unusual?" Asked Sam.
"Like what?"
"Strange lights, weird noises, maybe....voices." Dean asked.
"No, nothing."
"Hmm. Mr. Joffey." You intensionally pronounced his name wrong. "Jaffey." He corrected you as the 4 of you sat down on a round table.
"Whatever. You checked yourself in here, right? Can I ask why?" You continued.
"I was a little stressed. I survived a plane crash."
"Uh-huh. And that's what terrified you? I mean that's what you were afraid of?" You said keeping your voice as meaner as you could even though you felt bad talking to him like that. The brothers sat silently, letting you do your job.
"I-I don't want to talk about this anymore."
"You know what, I think maybe you did see something up there. We need to know what."
"No. No, I was delusional, seeing things."
"Oh he was seeing things." You repeated mockingly looking at the brothers.
"It's okay. Then just tell us what you thought you saw, please." Sam said softly. Max thought for a while before answering.
"There was......this......man. And, uh, he had the eyes...these uh..black eyes. And I saw him...I thought I saw him." He stopped in the mid sentence. "What?" Dean pressed. "He opened the emergency exit. But that's impossible, right? I mean, I looked it up. There's something like two tons of pressure on that door."
"This man, uh, did he seem to appear and disappear rapidly? It would look something like a mirage." Sam asked and you rolled your eyes at his stupidly obvious question.
"What are you, nuts? He was a passenger. He was sitting right in front of me." Max replied like Sam was crazy or something. Ones you were back in the Impala, you went through the passenger manifest again to find the guy in front of Max Jaffey.
"George Phelps." You said out loud and the brothers looked at you with a confused expression. "The guy in front of Max Jaffey. George Phelps, seat 20-C."
"Good, now work that pretty little head of yours and Find us an address." Dean said starting the car.
You were in front of George Phelps house within less than 15 minutes. "Here we are." Said Sam.
"Hmm...Man, I don't care how strong you are." Dean said as the three of you stepped out of the car. "Even yoked up on PCP or something, no way you can open up an emergency door during a flight."
"Not if you're human. But maybe this guy George was something else. Some kind of creature maybe, in human form." Sam suggested.
"Does that look like a creature's lair to you?" Dean asked and you turn to look at the beautiful cookie cutter house. To be honest it looked like a slightly bigger version of your childhood home back in Lebanon. It really was a beautiful house, now it's just abandoned building, with no life whatsoever.
"God, this guy must had insane income." You whispered making the brothers chuckle before Making your way to the Phelps' house.

Backstory part 1
Season one. Episode one.
Pilot (part 1)

"Ok, so how does this one look?" The blonde asks her best friend as she did a fashion show for her in Halloween costumes.
"Jess, honey, you are beautiful. You can wear a sack to the party and still look hot." The other girl replied. "By the way what with all the last-minute shopping. Don't you usually have your dresses ready about a few million years ago?" She added as she kept munching on her fries.
"oh, don't get me started on that. I bought my dress 2 months ago and yesterday I was trying it on and Sam spilled coffee on it." Jess said making Alex let out a gasp before she started to chuckle. "It's not funny" she picked some of Alex's fries and threw them on her. "I am sorry, I'm sorry. I am just imagining the look on your face. Is he still alive?" She asked sarcastically.
"Yeah. Good for him I love him too much." She said and grabbed one more dress and stormed inside the dressing room again. "I swear to God this one is the last, even if I look like an idiot in it." she huffed out and closed the door.
"I can't believe this is your first Halloween in college and you are not coming to the party," Jessica said from the dressing room as she tried on yet another dress. They have been here for at least two hours now and still, Jess couldn't find 'a perfect dress'. Alex can admit that she was a bit irritated now but she couldn't do anything about it. Jessica was a best friend, even if she was older than her. When Jessica and Alex first met, they instantly clicked. Alex was a bit too young for college and Jessica was the only one who wasn't weird about it.
"I don't have a date. It would be weird if I show up without a date." She kept munching on fries. "I mean no one even asked me to be their date. Do I look that bad?" She wondered loudly.
"You kidding me? Have you seen yourself?" Jessica poked her head out of the dressing room. "Trust me, sweetheart, if I wasn't dating Sam I would definitely hit on you. Even though I'm straight." Jessica added making Alex laugh. "Trust me, people not asking you on a date has nothing to do with your looks." she came out wearing a small nurse costume.
"oh my god, this looks really good on you." for the first time Alex stopped eating as she gaped at her best friend. "Right? And this goes perfect with the lingerie" Jess squealed at Alex. "You bought lingerie? wow, Sam is getting really lucky tonight." Alex winked at her best friend making her blush. Even after all this time of dating, small things still make her blush. "By the way, what were you saying about guys not asking me on a date?"
"I was saying that it has nothing to do with your looks. Well, it's because they're scared of you." Jessica finally said as she changed into her normal clothes. "What!? Scared of me? Why? Do I look scary?" she asked confused as she scrunched up her nose.
"No, you don't look scary. Maybe it has to do something with you punching the varsity jock on the first day of college." Jessica said and she finally came out of that dressing room in her normal clothes and a small white dress in her arm. Alex looks behind Jessica to see a pile of costumes, her eyes widened when she saw just how many costumes she had tried on since they have been here. "hey, so I'll take this one, and do you guys have those white nurse’s hats?" She asked the woman who was assisting them and the woman nodded. "Yeah, so I'll have one of those. Thank you" she handed her the dress and then they made their way to the counter.
"it wasn't my fault. He was being a dick to me. And it was just a small punch." Alex justified herself. On the first day of college, Alex ran into Toby, who was the captain of the football team. She accidentally spilled coffee on him. She said sorry and he said 'I will only accept your apology if you go on a date with me' she simply said 'No' and walked past him but he grabbed her hand and pulled her back and started insulting her in front of the whole cafeteria. He said something about her age and how she must have slept with her old teachers to graduate from high school so early. And she was silent, she didn't say anything but as soon as his hand went to her ass she lost it. She twisted his arm and punched his face. The guy still wears caste in his hand. But soon rumors started that the new girl is a freak and she punched Toby just because he asked her out.
"Small punch? Alex, you broke the guy's nose. I am not saying he didn't deserve it or anything, but maybe that's why guys are scared to ask you out." Jessica said as she paid for her dress and hat. They made their way outside in the parking lot to Alex's car. It was a 1965 playmount Baracuda. The car was the only thing left that Alex could call hers, she loved her car more than anything. "You know what? You don't need a guy. I'm calling Sam and telling him that you are coming with us." Jess said as she dialed Sam's number. "And that way you can finally meet him officially. Dammit, Sam, pick up" she muttered the last part to herself.
"Even though I go with you guys are you sure I am allowed there, I mean I am not even 21 yet."
"Alex nobody's gonna ask for your ID. you are a college student now. take a chill pill."
"You are not backing out are you?"
"Nope, not till you agree."
"Ok fine. but I'm not wearing a dress."
*******
You stood outside the frat house where the party was held. You were dressed in skinny Black jeans and a white tank top, a brown leather jacket on top of it. You weren't the one to dress up, especially not ON Halloween. Ever since you found out about the monsters, dressing up like one of them wasn't really fun for you. But you did put on some minimal amount of makeup, just so Jess wouldn't Chew your head off for not dressing up. She said Sam and her would meet you outside the frat house but as usual, she was late.
"Alex," you turn around to see a very happy Jessica Lee Moore dressed in her small nurse dress as she ran up to you and pulled you in a bone-crushing hug. There was an inhumanly tall guy who caught up to her and was smiling at his adorable girlfriend. "You made it." she beamed at you and pulled away.
"I didn't really have a choice after you threatened me," you said making the boy chuckle and that was the first time you paid attention to him. Your eyes widened as you saw him. There were a lot of changes in him but mostly he looked the same. When you joined college you weren't sure you were ever gonna meet anyone from your old life let alone a Winchester. Well, except Bobby, he kind of adopted you. "Woah, when you said your boyfriend was Sam, you forgot to mention it was Winchester." He looked a little confused but then he remembered you
"Wait Alex, as in Alex Livingston?" He said and you could tell that he wasn't really happy about meeting you. "Wow, you grew up," he said with a soft smile as he held his hand out for you to shake. Jess was looking at you both with a confused expression.
"You guys know each other?" She asked and before you could say anything Sam answered. "Yeah, our fathers were kind of friends." You could tell he was paranoid about Jess ever finding out about his old life and to be honest you would be too if you had such a great relationship with someone.
"Ok let's go inside," Jess said as she grabbed both of your arms with each of her hands and dragged both of you inside. Sam gave you a look and nod assuring you that Jess didn't know anything about the supernatural. And he wasn't really comfortable about meeting you after so many years. Once you were all inside you could actually see why people love Halloween so much. The loud music was already making your head hurt.
"so here's to Sam and his awesome LSAT victory," Jess said as you all sat around the table with shots in your hand with a few of their friends that I barely knew. You didn't know he was so good with studies, he was always a brilliant kid but 174? That's too good even for him.
"Alright, alright, it's not that big of a deal," Sam said 'oh modest are we?' you thought.
"He acts all humble but he scored 174." You knew this because Jess told you before. That made them laugh a little.
"Is that good?" A guy asked that you forgot the name of, 'maybe it was Luis. Whatever you thought. "Scary good," Jess replied.
"See, there you go. You are a first-round draft pick. You can go to any law College you want" Luis said, at least that's what you thought his name was.
"Actually, I got an interview here. Monday." Sam replied. Wow, he was scary good. You took one more shot. "If it goes ok I got a shot at a full ride next year" and with that, you blocked his voice. He was making you feel too bad about yourself. You got to do something about your competitive behavior, that is the reason you don't have many friends.
"How does it feel to be the golden boy of your family?" You ask feeling a bit more confident after the shots. Sam gave you a look, he knew you knew about him running away, you felt like such a bitch for asking him that but what could you do, you got that foot-in-mouth disease. "They don't know," he said not taking his eyes off of you. Oh, if only looks could kill you would be dead. You always had fun teasing Sam.
"No? I would be gloating. Why not?" Luis said and you kept your mouth shut this time as you took another shot. Curious for Sam's answer, you smirked at him and he glared at you again.
"Because we are not exactly the Brady's," Sam said finally looking away from you. "I'm not exactly the Huxtable. More shots?" Luis said making you laugh. Wait, why were you laughing again, it was not even a good joke. "No," both Sam and Jess said together. "I'll come with you," you called out and went after Luis, you can't really stand being the third wheel right now.
"So Alex, tell me something about you?" Luis asked as we reached the bar. "There's nothing really interesting about me, trust me you don't wanna know," you said and asked the bartender for one more shot. It was nice being a college student, no one asked for IDs. It's not like you didn't have any fake ones.
"Aren't you too young for college? If you don't mind me asking?" He asked as he slid another shot toward you but you shook your head.
"Yeah, my teachers thought I was too smart for high school," you said making him laugh. " Just kidding. I started school earlier than most kids" you said and he nodded his head.
"I have to say, you made quite the first impression on the whole college," he said with a wink. "I'm with you, by the way, you did the right thing, he totally deserved that."
"and I'll do it again if I have to."
******
Jess offered you to stay with her and Sam tonight since you were too drunk to drive and their place was closer so you left the car at the frat house and went to their place with them. The plan was to leave tonight for the case but now you were too tired so you decided to rest the night and leave in the morning. Their couch wasn't the most comfortable but at least it was more comfortable than the motel bed. You still haven't found yourself a place to live.
Sam lent you one of his big t-shirt and Jess lent you one of her pajama shorts. You have to say his shirt was too big and too comfortable and you're sure never gonna return it.
You were trying so hard to sleep but every time you close your eyes the same images comes back to haunt you. You're pretty used to not sleeping at night because of the nightmares, especially when you are alone, which was most of the time. You suddenly heard shuffling of feet but you to brushed it off thinking it was Sam or Jess but then you saw a silhouette, he was a bit short for Sam and it was definitely not a girl. You searched for your gun but realized it was still in your car so you grabbed the next thing you could which was a vase. You slowly made your way toward him as he made his way to the kitchen.
You lift the vase over your head, ready to hit him but he was too fast, he turned around and grabbed you and pinned you to the nearest wall. You swear if you weren't drunk or hungover you could kick his ass so hard that he wouldn't be able to sit for the next week. You were about to scream but he's put his one hand on your mouth which wasn't gripping your waist and pinning you to the wall.
"Shhh, I'm not gonna hurt you, Sweetheart," he said and you bit his hand making him flinch and pull his hand back but he still didn't leave you. "Oh, I'm not your sweetheart, Sweetheart, and trust me if I wasn't so drunk right now you would be dead twice already." You spat and glared at him and then pushed him away from you. You were about to punch him but Sam already got him from behind but again the man was too fast and blocked his punch. They threw punches at each other for a while but soon he had Sam pinned to the ground.
"Woah, easy tiger," the man said. You just stood there and stared at both of them, maybe you were not in the mood of punching someone.
"Dean?" 'Wait, Dean as in Dean Winchester? When did he become so hot? ' you thought to yourself. "You scared the crap out of me," Sam said as Dean kept chuckling.
"Ya right, he attacked me and he scared the crap out of you," you said sarcastically. Both of them were panting as he looked at you. "I attacked you? You attacked me first." he defended himself.
"Yeah, well, next time you break into someone's house don't expect them to offer you butterscotch," you said and he got up with a smirk on his face
"I have to say, Sammy, your girl got spunk," he said as his eyes roam up and down your body, not even bothering to look at your face.
"that's not... whatever. What the hell are you doing here?" Sam asked.
"Looking for a beer"
"Sam?" You looked up at Jessica as she turned on the lights making both of the boys turn to her.
"Jess, hey. Dean this is my girlfriend Jessica." Sam said as Dean looked at Jess and then at you. "You having a party or something?" Dean asked with a smirk.
"Your brother Dean?" Jessica asked ignoring his comment. "I love the smurfs," Dean said referring to her t-shirt. "I have to tell you, you are completely out of my brother's league," he added walking toward her. "But seriously, You having a party or something?" He asked looking back at you or more like your chest.
"Dean, that's Alex...Livingston." Sam said and Dean's eyes widened. "Wait, our Alex?" He asked and walked closer to you and you nodded with a cold look on your face. You have to say 'he looks hot' but you kept your thoughts to yourself. "Well, you grew up," he said once again looking down at your body.
"Anyway, I got to borrow Sam here. Talk about some private family business but... It's nice meeting you." he said as he turned back to Jess.
"No...no, whatever you wanna say you can say in front of her." Sam walked back to her and wrapped his arm around her shoulders.
"Ok..umm, Dad hasn't been home in a few days." He said, making you frown. The last thing you remember about John was that he was pulling you out from a house full of vamps when you were half dead. It was the death anniversary of your mom and you were kind of on a suicide mission. He saved your life and not only once but twice, and you'll always owe him that.
"So? He's working overtime on a Miller time shift. He'll stumble back in sooner or later."
"Dad's on a hunting trip... And he hasn't been home in a few days." Dean said making Sam's eyes widen a little. John's missing? Well that's weird he was the best damn hunter you know, if anyone could go missing on a case, it definitely wasn't John.
"Jess, excuse us," Sam said and you turn to leave as well but Dean grabbed your wrist. "it's ok, you can stay," He said making you frown. "I mean if you want to." He added and left your wrist.
*******
"I mean, you can't just break in the middle of the night and expect me to hit the road with you," Sam said as you made your way downstairs. You were still wearing Sam's shirt but you changed into your jeans from last night. The boys were completely ignoring you, you weren't even sure if you are supposed to go with them or not. But if it was about John you wanted in.
"you are not hearing me, Sammy. Dad's missing. I need you to help me find him." Dean replied as you continue making your way downstairs.
"You remember the poltergeist in Amherst? Or The devil's gate in Clifton? He was missing then too" you remember those hunts, you were with him on both of them. "He is always missing and he is always fine"
"Not for this long," Dean replied as we finally reached downstairs. "Are you gonna come with me or not?"
"I'm not." 'wow, so much for being a son' you thought. You have seen John with dean and Sam while growing up, he was not a perfect father but at least he wasn't like yours. He never laid a hand on Sam or Dean, not in a bad way, and for you that was pretty much perfect.
"why not?" I finally asked.
"I swore I was done hunting. For good" Sam replied as he looked at you.
"Come on, it wasn't easy but it wasn't that bad," Dean said and turned around making his way towards the main door. Me and Sam following him. "Yeah? when I told Dad I was scared of the thing in my closet, give me a .45." Sam said as they stopped in front of the gate. Right now you wanted to get out of this awkward family fight more than anything, it was getting too weird, even for you.
"what was he supposed to do?"
"I was nine years old, he was supposed to say don't be afraid of the dark"
"don't be afraid of the dark? Are you kidding me? Of course, you should be afraid of the dark, you know what's out there" with that you pushed past them and got outside of the gate. "Too much testosterone for one night" you mumbled under your breath. You could feel Dean's eyes on the back of your head. They continued fighting as you waited for them outside.
"Man, Dean, we were raised like warriors" you heard Sam say as they both walked out.
"so what you gonna do? You gonna live some normal apple pie life? Is that it?" Dean asked
"no, not normal. Safe" you really felt for sam to be honest. He got a great life here, a great girlfriend, a great LSAT score, why would anyone want to leave that life for hunting. "And that's why you ran away?"
"I was just going to college. It was dad who said if I was gonna go I should stay gone and that's what I'm doing."
"dad is in real trouble right now. And he's not dead already, I can feel it," he said and you felt bad for Dean too, he really needed his brother right now. "I can't do this alone."
"Yes, you can."
"yeah well, I don't want to," Dean said and Sam let out a long sigh.
"what was he hunting?" Sam asked finally giving up making a smile come across your face.
"Alex." Dean finally turned to you and the brothers stopped ignoring you. 'God, finally' you thought. "You don't have to come with us, I mean, you got your own things to do." He said but you shook your head.
"No, Dean, if this is about John then I definitely want in." You said and the boys gave you questioning looks. "He saved my life a couple of years back, twice. And I owe him that." You said making Dean smile.
"Ok then let's get this show on the road."
*******
"All right let's see. Where the hell did I put that thing?" Dean mumbled to himself as he opened the trunk of the black Impala and all three of you leaned over it. You have to say, she was still as beautiful as you last saw her. You almost loved her as much as your own baby, Almost.
"so when dad left, why didn't you go with him," Sammy asked.
"I was working my own gig. This voodoo thing down in New Orleans." Dean replied as he continued searching for whatever that he was searching for.
"Dad let you go on a hunting trip by yourself?"
"I'm 26, dude," Dean said, for a second your eyes went down to his ass but you reminded yourself there were more important things on your plate right now. "Alright, here we go." He said as he pulled out some papers from the trunk.
"So Dad was checking out this two-lane blacktop just outside Jericho, California."
"wait. Jericho?" You asked grabbing the papers from him. "I was heading there for a case. Missing folks." I said reading the article.
"Yeah, that's the one. About a month ago this guy..." He pointed at the photo on the paper while staring straight at my face, standing a bit too close to me. Sam walked around to look at the paper over my shoulder. "Yeah, they found his car but he'd vanished." I finished his sentence.
"complete MIA" Dean said still not taking his eyes off of me.
"so maybe he was kidnapped," Sam said looking at both of you simultaneously. "Yeah, well here's another one in April " he finally took his eyes off of you to hand another paper to you. "Another one on December '04, '03, '98, '92. Ten of them over the past 20 years. All men, all same 5-mile stretch of road." You said remembering the details from your case file.
"It started happening more and more, so Dad went to dig around. That was 3 weeks ago. I haven't heard from him since, which is bad enough, then I get this voice mail yesterday" Dean said taking out a phone to play the voicemail for us.
"Dean, something is starting to happen. I think it's serious. I need to try to figure out what's going on." John's voice came from the recording but the quality was very poor. "Be very careful, Dean. We are all in danger."
"you know there's EVP on that?" You said as soon as the mail ended.
"not bad, Alex. Kind of like riding a bike, isn't it?" He said and you rolled your eyes. "Alright, I slowed the message down. I ran it through goldwave, took out the hiss and this is what I got."
"I can never go home." You heard a woman on the recording. "Never go home" sam repeated as you all stepped back as Dean closed the trunk of the impala.
"you gotta drive me back to the frat house." You said and Dean looked at you with a frown. "Why?" He asked. "Got my car back there. My duffle is inside that... And my guns."
"You still drive that Cherry red beauty Bobby gifted you?" Dean asked with a smirk and you nodded. "Ok hop in." He said and you got in the back seat of the Impala giving them some privacy to talk. After a few seconds, Dean came and got inside the driver's seat.
"Where's Sam?"
"Went to pack and say goodbye to Jess. I guess." There was a minute of awkward silence as you kept staring at each other through the rearview mirror. "So, Alex, tell me, you flying solo?"
"Yeah, I've been hunting alone for 2 years now."
"and Bobby let you?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Nobody let me do anything, Dean. I do what I want. It's not like I have a family waiting for me to come back alive." You said and Dean gave you a sad smile.
"I'm sorry for your Dad, kiddo. The man was a good Hunter."
"Don't be" 'he got what he deserved' you wanted to add but decided against it. Knowing how much Dean worships his father you knew he wouldn't appreciate you talking shit about yours.

Bloody Mary (Part 3)

"I was on the job for 35 years, detective for most of that. Now everybody packs it in with a few loose ends but the Mary Worthington murder.....that one still gets me." The detective said answering one of your many questions.
"What exactly happened?" Dean asked as you sat silently looking around the room and the three men.
"You guys said you were reporters?" The detective said.
"We know Mary was 19, lived by herself. We know she won a few local contests, dreamt of getting out of Indiana being an actress. And we know that at the night of March 29th, someone broke into her apartment and murdered her. Cut out her eyes with a knife." Sam said, obviously being the only one out of the 3 of you who actually read about the case. Usually you'd do it but your mind wasn't in the right place right now.
"See, sir, when we ask you what happened." Dean said confidently.
"Technically, I'm not supposed to have a copy of this." He said pulling out a folder from the cabinet, you watched as the brothers shared a look. He started going through the folder and finally stopping at a picture which you assume was Mary laying in the pool of her own blood. "See that there? T-R-E?" He asked and you all nodded in incision. "I think Mary was trying to spell out the name of her killer." Detective suggested.
"You know who that was?" Sam asked.
"Not for sure. But there was a local man, a surgeon, Trevor Sampson." He said pulling out a picture of a man in tux. "And I think he cut her up good."
"Now, why would he do something like that?" You opened your mouth for the first time since you guys arrived here.
"Her diary mentioned a man she was seeing. She called him by his initial, T. Well, her last entry, she was gonna tell T's wife about their affair."
"But how do you know it was Sampson who killed her?" Dean asked.
"It's hard to say. But the way her eyes were cut out, it was almost professional." Detective said with a glint of sadness in his eyes.
"But you could never prove it?" You said, wording out the guilt inside his head. "No, no prints, no witnesses. He was meticulous."
"Is he still alive?" Asked Dean.
"Nope......If you ask me, Mary spent her last living moments trying to expose this guys secret. But she never could."
"Where's she buried?" Sammy asked.
"She wasn't. She was cremated." He said and you almost rolled your eyes.
"What about that mirror? It's not in some evidence lock up, is it?" You asked.
"No. It was returned to Mary's family a long time ago."
"You have the names of her family by any chances?" Sam asked and luckily he gave you the name of Mary's brother.
On your drive back to Toledo Sam called Mr. Worthington to ask about the mirror. "Oh really? That's too bad, Mr. Worthington. I would have paid a lot for that mirror ok, well maybe next time. All right, thanks." Sam said hanging up the phone. "So?" You and Dean asked in incision as soon as he was off the phone. "So that was Mary's brother. The mirror was in the family for years, until he sold it, one week ago..To a store called Estate Antique. A store in Toledo."
"So wherever the mirror goes, that's where Mary goes?" You asked raising an eyebrow although you already knew the answer. "Her spirits definitely tied up with it somehow."
"Isn't there an odd superstition that says mirrors can capture spirit?" Dean asked. "Yeah there is. When someone would die in a house people would cover up the mirrors so the ghost wouldn't get trapped." You answered keeping your eyes on them the whole time.
"Mary dies and the mirror draws in her spirit." Dean said in conclusion.
"Yeah, but how could she move through 100 different mirrors." Sam wondered out loud.
"I don't know but if that mirror's a source. I say we find it and smash it." Dean replied to Sam's question.
"Yeah, I don't know. Maybe."
Sam's phone started ringing and he picked it up in the second ring. "Hello? Charlie?" He asked on the phone with concern. "Hey, hey, calm down. Just meet us at our motel and we'll be there soon. Just don't look at anything that shows reflections." He said hanging up and Dean speeded up.
"What's wrong?" You questioned as soon as he was off the phone.
"Someone said it again and now Mary's after her."
When you got to your motel you saw charlie waiting outside covering her eyes. "Hey, it's okay, we're here, let's get you inside." You led her into your room but she didn't stop shaking and didn't uncover her eyes. Sam and Dean covered every reflecting surface of the room while you sat besides her to comfort her. "Charlie, you can open your eyes now, it's okay, you're safe now. Now, listen, you're not gonna look at glass or anything that has reflection okay? And as long as you do that, she cannot get you." You soothing voice which Dean always referred as creepy.
"But I can't keep that up forever. I'm gonna die, aren't I?" She asked and you shook your head.
"No, you're not, not anytime soon." Sam said.
"Alright, Charlie, we need to know what happened." Dean asked, sitting on her other side.
"We were in the bathroom. Donna said it."
"That's not what we're talking about. Something happened didn't it....In your life? A secret, where someone got hurt. Can you tell us about it." Dean asked and more tears left her eyes.
"I had this boyfriend. I loved him. But he kind of scared me too, you know? And one night at his house...We got in a fight. Then I broke up with him and he got upset and he said he needed me and he loved me. And he said 'charlie, if you walk out that door right now I'm gonna kill myself.' And you know what I said? I said 'go ahead' and I left. How could I say that? How could I leave him like that? I just.. I didn't believe him, you know? I should have." she started sobbing again after finishing her story. You looked at her with sympathy. "Charlie it wasn't your fault." you said rubbing her back but she didn't accept it.
"We're gonna go take care of this thing ok? Don't look at anything reflective.” The three of you got in the impala and started to the antique shop.
"Alex was right you know. Her boyfriend killing himself, that's not Charlie's fault." Dean said from behind the wheel and his eyes met with yours through the rear view mirror but you quickly looked away breaking the eye contact.
"You know as well as I do....spirits don't exactly see shades of gray, Dean. Charlie had a secret, someone died. That's good enough for Mary." Sam said and once again your heart dropped at your stomach. All you could think about was your secret right now. You know it shouldn't be the first priority here but you couldn't help it. "you know I've been thinking.. It might not be enough to just smash that mirror." Sam said and it caught your attention, pulling you out of your trail of thoughts.
"Why, what do you mean?" Dean asked.
"Well Mary's hard to pin down, right? I mean she moves around from mirror to mirrors. Who's to say that she's not gonna just keep hiding in them forever? So maybe... We should try to pin her down.. You know, summon her to her mirror and then smash it." Sam said.
"Well how do you know that's gonna work?"
"I don't, well not for sure." Sam replied.
"Well, who's gonna summon her?" Dean asked and before Sam could answer you opened your mouth, "I will. She'll come after me for sure." you said and the brothers looked at you with similar frowns. "No. You won't." They replied in unison suddenly acting all protective.
"No I'll do it. She will definitely come after me." Sam said, sounding guilty.
"Alright. You know what? That's it." Dean said pulling the car to the side to have a conversation with both of you.
"This is about Jessica, isn't it?" He asked turning toward Sam. "you think that's your dirty little secret that you killed her somehow?" He asked but there was no answer from the younger man which only proved Dean right. "Sam, this is gotta stop, Man. I mean..the nightmares.. and-and calling her name out in the middle of the night, it's gonna kill you. Now listen to me. It wasn't your fault. If you wanna blame something then blame the thing that killed her. Or why don't you take a swing at me? I'm the one who dragged you away from her in the first place."
"I don't blame you. " Sam said.
"Well you shouldn't blame yourself. 'cause there's nothing you could have done." Dean said. You decided to stay quiet because you damn well know of you say a word the lecture will suddenly turn to you.
"I could've warned her." Sam said and you frowned.
"About what? You didn't know what was gonna happen." Dean said and Sam looked away from him you could swear to God he was hiding something from you guys. "And, besides, all of this isn't a secret. I mean we know all about it. It's not gonna work with Mary anyway."
"No you don't." you knew it! He was hiding something.
"we don't what?"
"you guys don't know all about it. I haven't told you everything."
"what are you talking about?"
"Well it wouldn't really be a secret if I told you, would it?" Sam said and Dean was taken aback for a second.
"No I don't like it. It's not gonna happen. Forget it."
"He doesn't have to do it. I'll do it." you chipped in.
"No you won't. None of you gonna summon her. And seriously Alex, what is wrong? You have nightmares all the time, you barely sleep and when you do, you cry in your sleep." He snapped and you gave him a look. "yeah I hear it. Every night. I don't say anything because I want to give you your space. I know we don't know a lot about you but we know you enough and you will never hurt anyone intentionally. So whatever it Is, it's not your fault. So none of you are gonna do it. " He said and you felt a tear slid down your right cheek. 'only if you knew, Dean. Only if you knew you wouldn't think so highly about me.'
"You have no idea." you said in a small voice. His words only made you feel more guilty. How are you ever gonna tell him. And if they ever find out, they'll hate you. "Dean, that girl back there is gonna die. And you know what? Who knows how many more people are gonna die after that unless one of us do it." you said.
"And it's not gonna be you." Sam said turning slightly toward you. "Sam...... Please don't fight me on this one." you said and he sighed. "fine. We'll do it together. Maybe she'll get confused about who to kill first and we'll have a little more time in our hands." Sam said and you nodded agreeing with his plan then both turn to Dean. "Dean, you've gotta let us do this." you said in a very soft voice and he say silently for a few secs he nodded his head.
"But I don't like it, I don't like it at all." he whispered before turning on the car and driving toward the Antique store.
You were kneeling down in front the door of the antique store with your lock pick in your hand. You were successful in your third try. You opened the door and got inside, followed by the Winchesters.
There were way too many mirrors in that shop. It made spotting Mary's mirror even harder for you. "Well, that's just great." Dean commented sarcastically. He pulled out the picture, showing us the mirror in front of which Mary died. "Alright start looking." He said and Sam started walking deeper into the store. You turned to follow him but Dean grabbed your wrist pulling you closer to him, looking deep in your eyes he said. "Are you sure about this?" you nodded. "I don't like you doing this. At All." he confessed.
"I don't like it either but we don't have another choice." you said and this time he nodded.
"But when this is over, you're gonna tell me everything. No more secrets."
"Somethings are better off as secrets, Dean. Please promise me you won't ask me about it." you said and he looked away. "Dean, please." you cupped his face making him look at you.
"Fine I promise." He said and you don't know if you feel relieved or even more guilty. "let's just get this over with." He said pressing his lips to your forehead briefly. As in queue Sam called out. "Found it." and the two of you walked to where he was. He was standing in front of the mirror shining his torch on it. Dean opened the picture to confirm it was the same mirror. "that's it."
"you sure about this?" he asked Sam. He sighed and the 3 of you walked in front of it together.
"Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary." you both said in unison. Sam grabbed your hand with one of his and with the other he raised his crowbar. "Bloody Mary." you finished, squeezing his hand tightly.
A light shined through the shop from the window and we looked toward it. "I'll go check that out. You guys stay here. Be careful." he handed you his crowbar and started walking out. "smash anything that moves." He said and you nodded.
You heard a breath and turned toward one of the mirror. You saw a feminine figure standing in the mirror and took no time to smash it. You heard Sam smashing another one. "come on, come into this one." you said turning toward the main mirror. You frowned when you saw your own reflection smiling creepily at you. You heard a cry of pain and turned to Sam to see him bleeding through his eyes. You took a step toward him but stopped when your own eyes started burning. You could feel the warm liquid coming out of them. "it's your fault." your reflection said as the crowbar fell from your hand. "you killed him and you killed her too." you heard yourself in the mirror. From the corner of your eyes you saw as Sam fell on his knees clutching his chest. "Sam" before you could take another step there was a sharp pain in your head and your whole body. Sam was looking at the mirror but you couldn't see what he was seeing. "They told her. Everyone told her you were a monster but she never listened to them. They told her to kill you but she didn't listen to any of them and this is how you repay her. You killed them." you groaned, crawling toward Sam. "Sammy, Sammy don't listen to it. We can do this." you said grabbing the crowbar he dropped but before you could do something Dean ran by you and smashed it.
"Sammy! Sammy!" Dean said kneeling down in front of you guys and grabbing his face. "it's Sam."
"God, are you guys okay?" He said turning to you and taking your face in his hand and Wiping the blood from your face but you were pretty sure he just smeared it even more. "uh, yeah."
"come on. Come on." he tried helping you to stand up. "I'm fine help him." you told him and he did what you said and helped Sam to get to get up as you got as yourself.
He put one of his hand over his shoulder and the three of you started walking out. You were limping behind the Winchesters when you suddenly heard clinking of glass and heavy gasps behind you. You guys turned around to see that bloody Mary has crawled out of the mirror.
It only took a second for Dean to grab you and pull you behind him but it didn't help any of you. The three of you fell to the ground, groaning in pain as she walked toward you. More blood came out of your eyes.
You saw as Dean grabbed a mirror from beside him and held it against Mary. She stopped in her track and started looking at her reflection. "you killed them!" you heard a deep gruff voice. "All those people! You killed them." It repeated you saw as she melted in a puddle of blood right in front of you. Dean threw the mirror down, shattering it.
"Guys." you groaned out
"yeah?" Sam asked.
"That's gotta be like, what, 600 years of bad luck?" you said looking at all the broken mirrors, making both of em chuckle.
As you got up and walked out of the store Sam took no time in getting inside the impala and crashing down.
"Alex." Dean said before you could get inside as well, making you turn around and face him. He just stood there staring at your face. "what-" before you could finish your sentence he grabbed you by the waist and smashed his lips on yours. You were taken aback at the first but then kissed him back with the same force. You pulled away panting heavily. "what was that for?" you asked opening your eyes and looking at him.
"I'm really happy to see you alive." he said. "I'm really happy to see you alive too." you said, grabbing his collar and pulling him down for one more kiss.
The next morning Dean pulled up in front of Charlie's house to drop her off.
"so this is really over?" Charlie said looking at the three of you. "yeah, it's over." Dean said.
"Thanks you." she smiled at him and then got out of the car and started walking toward her house "Charlie? " Sam called out to her and she turned around. "your boyfriend's death... You really should try to forgive yourself. No matter what you did... You probably couldn't have stopped it. Sometimes bad things just happens." Sam said and she went inside her home giving him a slight nod.
"that's good advice." Dean said pulling out the car from the driveway. His eyes met with yours through the rear view, making you blush and him smirk. He winked at you and you rolled your eyes but you couldn't hide the big smile on your face.
"I'm going to take a nap. Wake me up before you guys decide to do anything stupid again." you said making a pillow from your jacket and lied down in hopes that maybe just maybe you could take a nap without any nightmares.
