Q&A For Entities
Q&A For Entities
@cutesthoot Brought up some good points so I’m answering the questions here!
1. Fighting and Imagination
This was originally made as a reaction to people running into spirits during bilocation. So the fighting is specifically fighting using your energy/energy body/bilocation mini-you. Throwing a fit with your physical body may make the spirit leave if it’s just hanging around, but it probably won’t do anything in the end.
To see the thing you’d probably need to sense its location using energy, or if you’re bilocating then just use your astral senses to your advantage.
If it’s really leaving then you’ll know because of these reasons: 1. No attack is happening to you. 2. The area’s energy has changed. 3. It’s really hard to project so hard an attack appears not to be happening, so the chances are if you can’t feel anything then it’s gone,

2. Extreme Caution
Extreme caution basically means treat the entity like you’ve just met one of the traditional British fae. Be respectful, don’t agree to do anything, don’t give it any power over you, make sure every move you make is tactical. Keep an escape plan ready.
Make sure you have the upper hand.

3. Legitimate Concern or Drama
Honestly it doesn’t quite matter if it’s a legitimate concern or not. The diplomacy will often cover that as asking the entity to leave weeds out benevolent from malevolent better than most other methods.
If you really want to learn more about entities and work with them, I’d suggest finding an actual energy worker. I’m not that experienced with any entities other than ones that are planning to hurt people, so I got a lot of this information from a friend who I’m pretty sure isn’t on tumblr.
For Cutesthoot, I’d be super happy to have you on my main teaching server, The Salem Coven. Run by my good friend @brookiethewitch I hope to see you there!

Energy Balms and Bandages
Holy Wowsers.
There are a LOT of you guys now. What Is Magic took off beyond my wildest dreams, in fact I thought it was going to be my least popular post. Instead we’re only a little less than 24 hours in and already over 150 notes! By the time I post this we’ll probably hit over 175 and I will die of Positive-Reinforcement-Overload.
This morning, before I logged on to see a sea of amazing people coming and reading my posts, I did a lesson on Energy Healing. Specifically in relation to creating balms and bandages, knowing what to use for each situation, and how to triage them! Without further ado, the lesson!
1. Balm Types
I call it energy balm because that’s sorta what I make it as, it feels like a balm to my hands when I use it. Before I show you all how to make the balm, I thought I’d tell you a little about the types I combine when I make it.
I use 6 colours to represent the types of energy for mixing the balm, and 1 colour to make the bandages afterwards. The energy types are: Burning (Burns out bad energy) Protection (Protects the wound) Cleansing (To cleanse the energy of the area without burning) Healing (Heals the wound) Soothing (Astral painkillers/aloe vera) and Restoring (Sets the patient’s energy to rebuild itself).
Between these six colours you can pretty much mix together a balm for almost any problem, and I’ll be talking about a few mixes I use later.

2. Making The Balm Pt 1 (Colours)
I always get people to make the balm by first taking white light energy, then splitting it into the traditional colours of the rainbow. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet.
The reason that I use this system is because it lets me use six of them for the six types of energy I want to use, then the remaining one I can use for bandages. It all depends on what you associate the colours with or what colours you want to use! One of my students used a blue-green spectrum instead of a rainbow, and then related the energies to that. I’ll put my system below as a quick guide on how you can relate colours and energies.
Red: Burning, I associate red with burning so I just picked that. Orange: Protection, I don’t know why but I always think of magic shields as orange. Yellow: Cleansing, it’s a very pale yellow which I normally use for cleansing myself. Green: Healing, it’s just a heal-y colour. Very life related. Blue: Soothing, blue is always a mentally soothing colour to me. Indigo: I use it for bandages. Purple: Restoration, again, no idea, but it always felt like the right colour for it.
As you can see, I use emotional associations, but I don’t really know where all of it came from. So do what works for you, it’s all about giving intent the easiest path.

3. Making The Balm Pt 2 (Mixing And Changing)
To make a balm, start by picking out which energy types you need. Then, I get the colour spectrum my splitting an energy orb of white light into the colours of the rainbow in the spectrum. Then, pick the colours which you associate them with. Make sure to keep them as energy and not a balm consistency for the next bit.
Take the colours one at a time, we’ll start with how to do the first two: Pick the colour orb and use your intent to encode the command into the energy, a lot like when you’re making energy constructs. Then get the next colour you need and do the same thing, now you have to mix them together. Merge the orbs but make sure they stay different colours, a mottled, spiralled, or striped effect will work best for this. Then take the other required colours and mix them in!
The energy ball you have now should include everything you need! But it’s still not a balm, so you have to change it into one. I change them into a balm by visualising the energy slowing until it’s a balm-like consistency. That tends to work.
Now you have an energy balm! To apply it to people simply use some bilocation to put it on their wounds.

4. Bandages and Triage
To make bandages, start by taking the leftover colour of the rainbow, or by taking any colour you associate with bandaids, and start spinning and stretching it out into a long piece of cloth. After that, you should have some bandages to put on someone if needed.
I have a triage list when it comes to a group of injured witches. Mainly because I act as an emergency astral first aid and protection contact. It goes like this:
1. Unknown Unidentified Pain 2. Parasites 3. Extremely Bad Cuts 4. Cuts and Scrapes 5. Burns 6. Broken Bones.
The first one can be treated by looking for reasons behind the pain as quickly as you can. It’s best to deal with this early, it could be anything from void energy, to a curse, to a continued attack from an entity. Parasites can be removed, burned, and then assisted with the Burning energy to make sure you have everything related to them out.

5. Some Quick Recipe Mixes
It is always best to make the mixture on the spot rather than keeping it. But here are a few recipes to remember.
Burns: Cleansing Healing Soothing Restoring
Parasite Care: Burning Protection Soothing Restoring
Cut and Stab Wounds: Cleansing Healing Soothing
Happy energy healing everyone! I hope it’s fun.

Element Study 2: Fire & Stories
Today’s lesson was a bit less specific than the last one. Everyone had an idea about what to do with fire in general, but no idea with its unique properties. Then nobody wanted to poke stories after I told them not to use it.
1. Fire
Fire is an interesting element for me, I don’t tend to use it because for the most part I can replicate it using water, air, and solar properties. Sometimes I need to though, and so that’s why it became number 2 on the list of elements to take a look at.
To start with, fire is the element of passion and warmth, as well as, fire and burning. Meaning this can be used for weapons, protection, and assistance. Yes, it’s not just for burning people. Wild.
I personally have used fire in the past for speed, and to back things up with power. I’ve also seen fire used for comfy blankets, instant warming clothes, a lot of cold resistance gear, and some incinerators. Although my personal incinerator is now a web of decay energy stretched over some wards. Fancy.
Fire is also useful for boosting your physical abilities in the astral: faster, stronger, better at improvising. If fire works for you, it’s an amazing tool.
Go forth and find out about fire for yourself! It’s a spot of fun.

2. Stories
Stories is extremely powerful, if I’m being honest it’s the most powerful element I’ve dealt with. Stories can manipulate people and effect the world around you, and as a result the elemental version has the power to manipulate reality.
This is why you Should Not Use It, unless you are Very Experienced. Reality could be fun to manipulate but it’s not a good idea unless you know what you’re doing. It could backfire badly, especially for people not used to handling high-power elements. Stories itself is one of the more powerful elements to try and handle, nearly everyone believes in stories, and as a result it’s strong.
Stories can be used to effect reality, emotions, the programming of other elements, and the creation of new things.

3. Bonus Round: Flowers
I had enough time to cover the element of flowers, this isn’t a very powerful element, and it’s closely tied with wood and earth. Flowers is the gentler sibling of these elements, better being used for healing. It can effect moods, as well as provide a stable base for other elements.
Also, a more romantic idea, make a little bouquet of flowers with it for someone special.

Ethics of Witchcraft
Before I start, I’d like to say this is entirely my ethics in relation to witchcraft. I’m not out here to tell other people off for what they do, left-hand path is valid, cursing is valid, you’re all valid.
I’m drawing the line at death curses though, no murdering people, it’s impolite.
1. Cursing
I’m personally not too good with curses. I’ve seen firsthand what happens when some overzealous ass with too much anger and too little sense goes after someone with a curse. In my case, some of my students were cursed to continuously suffer burns, which translated to real life pain, by someone who will remain unnamed yet hated for all eternity.
You know what you did.
All binding and screaming aside, I don’t curse people because in most cases the level of trouble I’d have to go to isn’t worth it, and also because I just think I’d regret it. I don’t like hurting people, unless they hurt the people I’m protecting, in which case chances are I’ll bind them.
I try to be a role model, but I’m worried one day I’ll break my own morals.

2. Binding
Sometimes I need to bind people, and it can be hard to make that choice, but in the end I don’t regret it. Hurting the people I’ve decided to protect is a surefire way to get some stuff sent your way, one day I’ll probably snap and curse someone, I’m not going to lie about that kind of thing. They’ll pick the wrong friend or the wrong type of curse and I’ll go off.
For now though, binding is my go-to response for curses. Get rid of the curse, bind them from harming people, it’s simple and easy if you have some yarn for knot magic but you can use whatever you want for it.
Binding people from harming others is something I think is reasonable, and it’s as far as I’ll go.

3. Fighting
I am by no means a pacifist, as you can probably guess by my energy weapon post and the fact I’ve already performed a binding on someone. In a way fighting is an important part of me being a witch. If I didn’t fight, a lot of entities would still be stalking students and friends alike.
To me fighting is a matter of choosing your battles, knowing when you need to use diplomacy versus knowing when you have to be the one to throw an astral punch. Witches have to probably fight more often than normal people, simply because we have a lot more contact with critters who aren’t quite civilised, or if they are civilised it’s in a different way then we’d like.
Fighting for safety, freedom, and the people you care about is one of the most important things you can do.

4. Love Spells
Here’s something interesting to know about me, I have a firm set of values and a list of things important to me. At the top of that list is Freedom, nothing has any meaning to me without freedom. As an old Michael Grant book that taught me for the first time what it truly meant to sacrifice everything for freedom asked me. Is it more important to be free or to be happy?
So it probably therefore won’t surprise you all that have a firm belief that love spells are worse than curses. They strip you of your free will by taking control of your emotions in the worst possible way. They’ll make you sacrifice everything for someone without it truly being you in control. Unlike curses, I know I will not use a love spell under any circumstances.
I don’t trust people who use love spells, I will never use a love spell, and I sure as hell will never let someone use one on me.

5. More On Free Will
I have immense respect for people who just get rid of parasites from people, who chaotic good it up and remove demons or what have you without permission. I think I need to be friends with a few more people like that.
For the simple reason I don’t, I figure if I get rid of the parasite they’ll go and find more, or worse yet curse me as a result. So I leave them go, I always hope they come to their senses but, I’m not happy about it.
On the other hand if the parasite attacks me, I prioritise myself and kill it. I don’t care what happens, it’s my choice if I let it hurt me or not, and given I have enough firepower to get most anything coming my way. The parasite is dead.
I won’t follow someone’s wishes if it means I’ll end up hurt, but I do try to let them decide for themselves.

Wendigos, Demons, Dragons.
I need to do a PSA about this, so please bear with me. This is about a phenomenon I’ve seen where inexperience will give rise to people assuming they’re dealing with a cooler/more dangerous entity then they are.
1. Wendigos
The first rule of wendigos is, it’s probably not a wendigo. If you think you’re being hunted by a wendigo then go through this short checklist before anything else, because the chances are that it’s going to be a nature spirit.
What season is it?
Where do you live?
Is there a forest nearby?
What temperature is it where you live?
Can you hear the wind howling your name like some kinda weird horror movie?
If the answer to 1 is anything other than Winter, move on. Wendigos are a Northern North America phenomenon (think Alaska, Canada, a little ways into the northern US states.) They hunt in forests, if you’re in an urban area chances are you’re fine. Temperature? Temperature is important, wendigos need cold. If it’s warmer than 10ºC or 50ºF, then the chances are you don’t have a wendigo.
That last one is probably optional but still, if the wind is howling your name then you check in with your nearest experienced witch.
Fun Fact: Wendigos can unlock doors.
↓ One ugly motherfucker.

2. Demons
As opposed to wendigos, if you think something’s a demon, it might fucking well be.
Demons do exist, and the issue I’m actually going to talk about with demons is that a lot of people assume when trying to work with demons, that demons for some reason will not fuck them over. They will and they do, if you have to deal with demons remember this: Get checked for parasites. Also, do not keep your demons, they can cause more harm to you than you could think possible. A fight with something mildly terrifying like an eldritch god is something I’d take over having a demon parasite farm.
Fun Fact: You should not disrespect Goat Man’s bridge until you have some serious experience.
God bless Shane Madej.

3. Dragons
Guys, for real though, if a dragon is talking to you get that shit checked out. Entities lie, a lot, there are a lot of entities who will screw you over for fun.
