"The things I do for you, Penelope."
I recognize that in context this is Odysseus baiting the siren, but honestly, that could be the title of the whole musical right there.
“Captain?….But we’ll die.”
Eurylochus sounded so small. Like a little boy talking to someone who’s supposed to be his friend and not understanding what’s happening because it doesn’t make sense.
Nobody touch me.
Thunderbringer fucked me up so bad, I hope you know. And Eurylochus and Odysseus have been giving me SO many complicated feelings, it would be so easy to just put the blame on Eurylochus and keep it pushing but nah, I just wanna share MY thoughts on this.
Okay, so I'm not sure if anyone said this already but you know how in three-person friend groups when that one friend leaves the group the other two's friendship kinda falls apart because that one person was the only thing keeping them together?
Yeah, it was that with Eurylochus and Odysseus. Polities seemed to be the only thing keeping them together, kept them grounded in a different way than Eurylochus.
Odysseus has the habit of getting in way over his head but he’s no dummy and things usually end up working out in the end while Eurylochus is a realist to a fault, I can definitely see him keeping both Odysseus and Polites in check depending on the situation and Polites is always there to keep spirits high and keep them motivated.
They all had something to offer and they bounced off of each other perfectly so when their rhythm was thrown off balance by Polites death due to shock and grief, not to mention their compromised mental state due to the fact they just got back from war (and they just ran out of food) things were falling apart FAST.
In Luck Runs out tensions were running high and food was scarce Eurylochus was starting to doubt Odysseus, I don’t think he blames him for Polities death but I do feel like it wasn’t just Odysseus missing his absence…
I’m not excusing Eurylochus actions but I’m just trying to understand his mental state, we focus on Odysseus because he’s literally our protagonist but I’ve always wondered how Eurylochus was dealing with all of this (this man wasn’t dealing SHIT) I’ll probably overanalyze the Thunder Saga soon, whether I’ll make a post about it idk. They could never make me hate you, Eury.. 🙂↕️
