It's neither! I use alcohol markers and watercolor pencils (weird combo, I know, but it works) and darker paper, because the pencils look better :)) thank you for your sweet comments <3

The Fíli portrait is old, but I wanted to post them together. It feels wrong to separate the two of them...

On a different note, which of them do you like better? Personally, I like Fíli more, but I know it's an unpopular opinion:))

I may, or may not be considering painting Boromir as a saint, inspired by a song by The Smiths and that one St. Sebastian painting by Sandro Botticelli.
