Able Bodied Parents I'm Begging You To Teach Your Kids About Disabled People. Not Just Because They Could
Able bodied parents I'm begging you to teach your kids about disabled people. Not just because they could become disabled themselves one day but also because even if they don't, they have a very real chance of being rude to us if you don't teach them.
Yes, kids just say shit. They have no filter. That doesn't make it any less humiliating when your child sits near me on the bus and incessantly grills me on why I have a stick when I'm not old. Or laughs at us for things our disability causes. It doesn't take away the hurt when they bully a disabled classmate. For a large part these things could be avoided if you just taught your kids to respect us. It's really not that hard.

I miss Hong Kong ;_; the neon alleys with their hidden stories and endless good food aaaaaahhh
This is another #Dalle generated image that I painted over. So obsessed with this new tool, it’s going to be game changing for creatives everywhere~

Unpopular opinion and I deliberately kept the user's name out of this but tags like this are 100% missing the point.
Look. I also don't like ddlg. I don't like ageplay. I don't like raceplay. I don't like misgendering or conversion or forced-gendering. I don't like corrective rape and I don't like impact play and I don't like slaves. They're weird and fucked up to me and it skeevs me out knowing people willingly engage in that.
HOWEVER. The moment we start saying that any outsite entity- governments, communities, ANY outside entity- is allowed to have access to our private sex lives and make a moral judgement call is also the moment we allow anti-sodomy laws to come back. Relationships and intimacy between consenting, willing, active adult participants are not something we can allow anyone to go over with a fine-tooth comb and decide whether it's moral or right for them to be doing this.
My private life is not open for anyone to decide whether it's Good And Moral or Bad And Evil. The intimacy I share with an adult partner belongs to that partner alone, and no one else is invited to peep into my bedroom to make sure I'm only having Good And Moral sex. It doesn't matter what type of sex I'm having. I'm having it with someone who is a fully capable adult who is saying they want it. That's the only thing that matters.
Being okay with outlawing types of sex *you personally* dislike opens the door for others to also outlaw the sex *they personally* dislike. And at some point, we wind up back here, at anti-sodomy laws that catch literally everything that isn't specifically vanilla PIV missionary covers on lights off within marriage for making children. Because you set the precedent that said we're allowed to outlaw sex if it's icky enough.
here’s another fun fact: asexual does not mean nonsexual.
asexuals’ relationship with sex and sexual attraction tends to be….complicated. there’s a bit of an idea of like, oh of course, you’re either sex-favorable, sex-neutral, or sex-repulsed, but honestly i see a LOT of discussion about how wildly different those can each look for each individual. some people are comfortable with some acts in very specific contexts, and deeply upset by them in all others. some people find certain forms of nonsexual intimacy (like kissing) to still be off-limits, while something most people might consider more charged (like nudity) is totally fine. a lot of us just kind of have a long laundry list like “this is fine, this isn’t, that one’s okay, that one’s always off-limits….” because the big secret is that “sex” isn’t really any cohesive act as much as a lot of little things that people just threw together and called one thing.
as for attraction: some aces are actually attracted to other people once in a blue moon, and simply don’t want to clarify that every time. some aren’t entirely sure, but don’t want to spend their whole lives guessing. some ARE completely sure they never have and never will feel an attraction.
at the end of the day, much like any label, this single word really doesn’t tell you much of anything about what a person is actually like unless you bother to ask them what it means to them.
