I like to think that Caitlyn's whorification (loving that term sorry) process over the years was:

Cassandra: You should be thinking of meeting boys of our social status to date and marry one day.

Caitlyn: *is a lesbian*

Cassandra, not caring: Okay, girls then.

Caitlyn: *sneaks girls into her room times a few times and Cassandra catches them*

Cassandra, a bit pissed off: Hopefully she'll settle down with one.

Caitlyn: *keeps sneaking girls in but it's still nothing serious that promises a marriage*

i said this in the tags of a post and haven’t stopped thinking about it since

caitlyn spent the good majority of her life looking down the barrel of a loaded gun. not from the business end, obviously. she’s been on the side pulling the trigger, peering through the viewfinder, finger against trigger, cheek against metal. her mind is dangerous and her aim is deadly.

but in all her training, all her hunting, she’s never been in danger until she met vi. in many ways her upbringing meant the gun in her hands was a familiar weight of formality - of performance. a carefully curated symbol of status clearly passed down in the family if her mother is anything to go by. there was never anything dangerous at the other end of her gun.

and then she finds vi and while vi was never on the other end of caitlyn’s gun, she introduces danger to caitlyn. she shows her something worth shooting for beyond the ceremony of it all - beyond the trophies and the time and the legacy. a reason to hesitate. vi is a loaded gun all on her own and the bullets are her fists. and even without caitlyn’s rifle between them she’s still staring down the barrel of a loaded gun when she looks at vi and it’s such a familiar feeling that she’s never scared because yeah vi is dangerous but caitlyn knows which end of the barrel she’s staring down. vi’s always been on her side. even when they didn’t trust each other, vi wasn’t aiming at caitlyn.

cheek against metal and finger on the trigger, caitlyn knows how to wield a loaded gun better than anything else - knows how to empty the chamber so the bullets clatter to the floor harmlessly. maybe that’s why she wins vi’s trust so quickly. you have to know when not to shoot, too.
