Here's something I dearly love about the SessKag fandom: it's been around for ages and it hasn't stagnated. I don't even know when people first started shipping SessKag and started sharing their talents with others through fanfiction (and fanart). But in spite of how old Inuyasha is, no matter that no new canon content has been released, we've got new people joining all the time, and they've raised the bar for good work in our community. They've improved on the tropes and fan canons and the execution of ideas. They keep coming up with new and improved ways of writing this old ship and they always keep it fresh and new. The fandom keeps evolving.

The "classics" of SessKag fanfiction that get recommended to new readers has changed over the years. That's thanks to—in no small part—the hard work of volunteers who painstakingly comb our growing archive of SessKag fics to make recommendations for specific requests, but also the hard work of both new creators and fandom veterans, who keep finding creative ways to write SessKag, even after all these years. I'm relatively new to SessKag and the fics that were recommended to me weren't even the most popular ones (by Kudos or reviews or whatever) on AO3 and FFN. I only found those because those fics were old enough to accumulate likes and comments. Yet you are unlikely to have these fics recommended by actual SessKag shippers these days, simply because we have new and better.

We have Tales from the House of the Moon, probably the gateway fic for most SessKag readers and still a beloved piece of writing. But then we get new must-reads over the years too. We get masterpieces like Swimming in Silk, E Pluribus Unum, and Calamity Tempest. And these are only some of the fics I've read.

There's so much talent in our little corner. If something in just one particular SessKag fic isn't to your liking, swim out into the big blue SessKag sea and find something that does suit you.

And if there's something you want to see that hasn't been written yet? You can just pick your pen up and join the rest of us. That's how our community has sustained and grown through time.

If you're going to base criticism of an entire ship on a work of fanfiction completed in 2006, I don't know what to tell ya other than the fact that you're probably not giving the ship a fair chance. We've got 7975 fics on Dokuga alone and the numbers will keep growing. If you don't keep up with the fandom how will you ever know what's going on?

SessKag shippers will ship and read SessKag not because they're disgruntled supporters of other ships. They'll read SessKag for the simple reason of: I like this pairing more. I like their dynamic more. I like these tropes more. I like a particular writer's style more. And sometimes your favourite characters aren't going to be a part of it simply because what we want from our fics is going to be different from what you expect from our fics. Ain't no simpler reason than that.
