I’ve been held at metaphorical gunpoint by a mutual to turn this into a prompt, so here goes:

One character gets themselves caught in a physical trap, and their being caught in the trap is used as bait to catch another character in a different kind of trap. Maybe they’re trying desperately to get their friend out of the actual trap, while the friend is trying to warn them that it’s a different sort of trap.

“It’s a trap!” “I know, hold still and let me get you out of it!” “Not that kind of trap!”

Whumpee who was captured somewhere, and the Whumpers also captured Creature. Creature was a dangerous beast and kept in heavy chains and a muzzle.

One day, Whumpee managed to escape their cell, and in their escape decided to release Creature to create chaos.

They both made it out, and there was a moment where Creature could've fled. But they saw Whumpee was in trouble, so they waited and got Whumpee out as well.

They ran for their lives (maybe Whumpee even riding Creature) and managed to lose the Whumpers. Exhausted, Creature collapsed and just lay there, panting around their muzzle, the chains still digging into their skin.

Whumpee stands up and looks at them. They needed Creature to get out, but Creature is dangerous. Whumpee can't just let them be free, they could kill someone.

Whumpee looks at Creature, who looks terrible and sad, with the chains still around them. They could end it now, it would be quick and Creature probably won't notice it.

But can Whumpee do it?

Maybe it’s just because I write historical and use a lot of weird words, but there’s just something about underused, obscure whumpy words.

Captured royal PTSD

Never allowing themselves to look regal or confident ever again, so as not to attract abuse. Walking around bowing their head, biting their lips.

Trying to be really nice all the time, making allies so they'll be hidden away from anyone looking for them. Sometimes they wonder if they even care about their friends, or if it's just selfish.

When they turn away, the smile drops into stress lines and paranoia

Rubbing at scars hidden under their clothing (scars can be itchy...) and then looking around to see if anyone saw them

Always wearing a hooded cloak or (modern) hoodie pulled down over their face

The whole mystery-person thing... The aragorn-in-the-corner thing... Everyone wants to know about them and they'll never ever tell

Insisting that they're nobody, not important, only adding to the intrigue bc they have NO IDEA how to act "normal"

Most immortals become the angsty “everyone I have ever loved is gone” kind of immortal. You, on the other hand, instead took it upon yourself to be a loving presence to entire generations of your chosen family, because they are descended from someone you once loved long ago.

Lil' Bit of Medieval Whump

Whumpee gasped for air as Whumper yanked at the chain, giving it no slack as they strutted across the feasting hall. Whumpee's fingers clenched around the collar tightened around his neck, a futile effort to ease it as Whumper tugged on the chain.

The heavy oak doors slammed closed behind the two, commanding the attention of each of the warriors filling the room.

Whumpee's cheeks flushed crimson at the humiliation as he stumbled behind Whumper, struggling to preserve a slither of dignity by avoiding being dragged toward the Warlord.

"You treat him like a dog," the Warlord sighed as Whumper approached and took their seat to his right, forcing Whumpee to kneel beside them.

"Why shouldn't I? He has been defeated,” Whumper declared proudly, shooting Whumpee a smile as he glared back from his spot on the floor.

"I will choke you with this chain..." Whumpee growled quietly. His gaze was abruptly pulled from the floor as Whumper jerked the chain, forcing their eyes to meet.

"What was that, Knight?" Whumper taunted.

"N-nothing," came the strangled reply.

"Where is your honour, Whumper? “ the Warlord questioned, shaking his head as he took a sip from his goblet. “He was a great warrior.”

"Was, Lord,” Whumper corrected, finally releasing Whumpee from their grip. “And now he may serve as a trophy. Nothing more.”

songs. melancholic ballads, frisky folk songs, rhythmic shanties. they're something that keep people going. they're something that signify that there's still some hope left.

so the guard is taken aback when the prisoner starts to sing.

they've been here for so long, glaring from behind the bars silently, why the sudden act of defiance after all this time?

the guard looks at the prisoner – they're huddled in the corner of the cell, fiddling with the chains involuntarily. a sliver of pity finds way into the guard's coarse heart.

poor thing must've finally started losing it.

What I like seeing is like... pet mages. Pet spell casters. Were they won in a war? Were they someone born with magic that didn't hide themselves from the town guard well enough? Either way, they get brought to whatever nobles or royals to serve all their magic needs, no matter how cruel or annoyingly frivolous.

Being tantalizingly powerful enough to kill their new master- they have magic and the noble presumably DOESNT- but certainly not being strong enough to get away from the guards or out of the grounds without being caught and punished.

Or worse, some kind of magical restraints that prevent them from casting spells whenever they want, only permitting magic to be used when the noble commands it. The magic itching under their skin, clawing to be free and making them sick as it festers in them.

And a step further on that, being forced all day to charge something maybe, a big battery that fuels the power in the castle, or a secret weapon that they've been working on. Getting exhausted day to day.

Perhaps they're used as a training dummy in the army or guard, learning to fight and catch more mages.

Just gosh, being having the power to partially escape, being subjected to that humiliation, or being used and used until the magic is all gone then being disposed of. Very fun.
