Botswana ist ein weites Binnenland mit einem Umfang von circa 582 000 Quadratkilometern, das von seinen Nachbarn Südafrika, Simbabwe, Sambia und Namibia durch Flüsse getrennt wird, wovon einige nur in der Regenzeit fließen.

Zwei Drittel des Landes bestehen aus der Kalahari Wüste, einer staub verwehten, halbtrockenen, flachen Ebene.  Sehenswürdigkeiten sind unter anderem der Chobe Nationalpark, das Moremi Wildtierreservat, das Okavongo Delta, die Linyanti Sümpfe, die Makgadikgadi Pfannen, das Zentralkalahari Wildtierreservat, Tuli Block und der Kgalagandi Transfrontier Park. Die Regenzeit ist von November bis April und die Trockenzeit von Mai bis Oktober.      

A vast land-locked area of approximately 582,000 square kilometres, Botswana is divided from its neighbours, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia, mainly by rivers, some of which flow only during the wet season.

Two-thirds of the country is covered by the Kalahari Desert, a wind-blown, semi-arid, flat plain. Places of interest are the Chobe National Park, Moremi Wildlife Reserve, Okavango Delta, Linyanti Swamp, Makgadikgadi Pans, Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Tuli Block and Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The rainy season is from November to April, with the dry period May to October.

It was in 1991 that the Lutzeyer family first set eyes on a small farm on the fynbos slopes overlooking Walker Bay – and they couldn’t believe the beauty they saw. In 1994 Michael sold his business interests in Cape Town and decided to develop a bed and breakfast on the site for local visitors, not knowing that soon he would be attracting visitors from across the globe. Since then, through a combination of hard work, enthusiasm, vision and strong family cooperation, the Lutzeyers have turned the reserve into a world leader in progressive luxury tourism, transforming the lives of community members and preserving 2500 hectares of botanical and wildlife treasures.

1991 sah die Familie Lutzeyer zum ersten Mal diese kleine Farm an den Fynbos-Hängen mit Blick auf die Walker Bay - und sie waren sofort von der Aussicht überwältigt. 1994 verkaufte Michael seine Geschäftsbeteiligungen in Kapstadt und beschloss, auf dem Gelände ein Bed & Breakfast für lokale Besucher zu entwickeln, ohne zu wissen, dass er bald Gäste aus der ganzen Welt anziehen würde. Seitdem haben die Lutzeyers mit einer Kombination aus harter Arbeit, Enthusiasmus, Visionen und starker familiärer Zusammenarbeit das Reservat zu einer bekannten Destination im Luxustourismus gemacht, das Leben der Gemeindemitglieder verändert und auf 2500 Hektar botanische und tierische Schätze bewahrt.

The Victoria Falls Hotel breathes history: portraits of the historical figures from the founding period and famous guests adorn the walls of the corridors of the "Grand Old Lady of the Falls", as the hotel is affectionately called. Built in 1904, at the time of Edward VII, it offers all the amenities you would expect from a hotel of this category, combined with a unique location directly above the Victoria Falls.

The Knysna Lagoon opens between two massive cliffs, known as The Heads. These stand tall, acting as rugged watchmen over the pristine loveliness of the lagoon. Here, exquisite views of the water surging through the narrowed entrance make for idyllic backdrops to your Garden Route excursion. The Knysna Lagoon is one of the area's chief tourist attractions and is a popular spot for local fishermen and water sports enthusiasts.

Die Knysna-Lagune öffnet sich zwischen zwei massiven Klippen, die als The Heads bekannt sind. Diese stehen hoch hinaus und fungieren als robuste Wächter über die unberührte Schönheit der Lagune. Hier bieten sich exquisite Ausblicke auf das Wasser, das durch den verengten Eingang fließt, eine idyllische Kulisse für einen Ausflug zur Garden Route. Die Knysna Lagune ist eine der Haupttouristenattraktionen der Region und ein beliebter Ort für  Fischer und Wassersportler.

Babylonstoren, eine der am besten erhaltenen und noch aktiven Obst- und Weinfarmen im kap-holländischen Stil, liegt zwischen Franschhoek und Stellenbosch inmitten des Weinlandes.

Die Farm wurde im Jahre 1690 gegründet. Das Manor House stammt aus dem Jahr 1777. Das Kornhuis, der Getreide- und Heuspeicher, und der Keller aus dieser Zeit sind in gutem Zustand erhalten. Ein Hühnerstall, ein Taubenhaus, ein Glockenturm und die historischen Tore stehen im traditionellen Hof, der von einer niedrigen, weiß gekalkten Mauer umgeben ist.

Babylonstoren, one of the best preserved and still active Cape Dutch-style fruit and wine farms, lies between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch in the middle of the wine country.

The farm was founded in 1690. The Manor House dates from 1777. The Kornhuis, the grain and hay barn, and the cellar from this period are in good condition. A chicken coop, a pigeon house, a bell tower and the historic gates stand in the traditional courtyard, which is surrounded by a low, whitewashed wall.

Die Winelands von Kapstadt fangen kurz hinter dem Tafelberg in den ältesten Weinanbauregionen in Südafrika an. Die Weinrouten verlaufen weiter bis nach Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Wellington und Paarl. Es ist eine wunderschöne Landschaft mit grünen, fruchtbaren Tälern, Pinien- und Eichenwäldern. Es gibt viele malerisch verschlafene Orte und bis zu 1500m hohe schroffe Bergformationen mit atemberaubenden Paßstraßen. Hier ist der Ursprung der kapholländischen Architektur und es gibt sehr schöne Weingüter, die fast alle eine Weinprobe und Führungen anbieten.

Cape Town's Winelands stretches just behind Table Mountain in the oldest wine growing regions in South Africa. The wine routes continue to Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Wellington and Paarl. It is a beautiful landscape with green, fertile valleys, pine and oak forests. There are many picturesque sleepy places and up to 1500m high rugged mountain formations with breathtaking pass roads. Here is the origin of Cape Dutch architecture and there are very beautiful wineries that almost all offer wine tasting and guided tours.
