A Delectable Easter Story

image

This is not fiction. This is a true story that happened to me. This sort of thing, and much worse, goes on all over the world every day. We’re supposed to protect our children, not abuse them..

When I was four my mom and dad gave me a beautiful white bunny rabbit about two weeks before Easter. That little rabbit and I were inseparable. It followed me everywhere. We even slept together. I was in love w that little rabbit. He was my best and only friend. On Easter day I woke up and couldn't find my rabbit anywhere but I was too excited about the Easter egg hunt to be overly concerned. After the Easter egg hunt I sat down at the dinner table w my mom, dad and sisters and began to indulge in our Easter dinner. As I ate my dinner I played w the chocolate bunny in my Easter basket and it reminded me of my rabbit. “Has anyone seen my rabbit?” I asked. There was silent hesitation, then my mother informed me “You’re eating him.” I was, needless to say, traumatized.

Footnote: My mother and father took great pleasure in setting us kids up for the most cruel punch lines and they were well practiced at it. It was their past time. ~ Trabue Gentry
