Honestly, I think it’s find of fascinating how gay people have always identified with the villains more than the heroes. Like, even though the Hays Code definitely exacerbated that desire, it’s there even to the very roots of horror. Frankenstein’s monster, a creature made in defiance of god, disavowed by his parent and never allowed a person to love or a quiet, domestic life to live. Dracula telling his female followers to leave Jonathan Harker because “this man belongs to me!” and let us not forget The Picture of Dorian Grey, one of the most overtly gay works of fiction I’ve ever read despite the fact that one of the main characters is married and the titular Dorian gets engaged to a woman. 

So like, while liking the villains is definitely a hallmark of us gays, it’s not something new. The villains have always been coded, first because it was one of the few ways gay people could safely explore their sexuality and feelings about identity and later due to the influence of homophobic codes and ideas that relegated any sort of representation to coding in overtly villainous characters and idk, it’s just interesting
