I think the important thing that I love about gastronauts is the fact that the judges are just regular people (aside from being our lovely favorite comedians). Like when they eat something I KNOW it's good because you can SEE IT ON THEIR FACES.
Regular cooking show judges are taking the tiniest of bites (which fair, they have to taste a lot of food). Then they are holding a straight face for drama and tension's sake and then trying to convince me that words like 💕💖💫umami💫💖💕 mean it's tasty. I don't necessarily doubt their "grand culinary expertise" but it just fills me with joy to see people actually emphatically enjoy the food on a cooking show.

I love Jelloapocalypse’s lemonade tasting streams bc he starts with such innocent hope that the lemonades will actually taste good:
“This tastes a kinda old. Not even like a bruised apple, just a little old, y’know? 2/5.”
But by the end, once he’s tasted Lord Remington’s Pickle Juice and the Whole Foods’ Pond Silt:
“This tastes like drinking bubble soap. I’m gonna give it a 3/5.”
