An Open Note To Readers Of Fanfic

An open note to readers of fanfic

Sometimes I stare at the computer screen when the words don’t want to come and I think, “Fuck, who am I kidding? This is terrible writing, and this story is shit, and no one cares, anyway.”  And I close the window and go do something else.

But every now and then I get an amazing, heartfelt, beautiful comment from someone who loved something I wrote, and it reminds me that, at least for that one person, I did write something worthwhile. And so I open the window again and I write one sentence, and then another, and then I start to find my way again.

So on behalf of all fanfic writers everywhere, I want to say thank you, thank you so much, to all of the readers who take the time to leave a comment and tell us that something we wrote mattered to you, that it brightened your day or made you laugh or cry or get horny or whatever.

Please don’t think we’re ever bothered by your comment, or that we don’t want to hear it, or that what you have to say isn’t important enough. It means so, so much. And on some days, it’s what keeps us going.

2: a character whose POV you’re currently exploring

I mean I’m not sure… I mostly write in Ellie and Joel’s POVs so that not super new, but I’m doing that I guess lol

3: how do you feel about your current WIP?

I have two ongoing stories at the moment, the first one I have is AoaBG which I’m on part 2 of atm. I’m really proud of this work, I think it’s definitely some of the best writing I’ve ever done. However I wasn’t adoring Scars so far so I changed a ton of the plan and am rewriting the first chapter, but now I’m liking it WAY more😅👍

And the second one I have is AbelCode, which I just adore. I love doing less angsty writing, even though it’s way out of my comfort zone. Also I’m getting a ton of help from the incredible @wordspinning, which makes it even more fun to write.

I don’t how how I’ve managed this but… ‘back’ is my most used word I gues??? Somehow??? (I’m pretty sure it doesn’t include ‘and’ and ‘the’ and stuff like that tho…

12: trope you’re really into

One I absolutely adore is parallel endings. It’s just my favorite way to end a story. Parallel endings (at least that’s what I call them, idk the official term) is when the end of your story is a direct parallel/call back to the beginning, maybe by using some phrase or situation, but now everything’s different. I just love that stuff.

19: most interesting thing you’ve researched for a story

Oh wow, I have no idea. I will say that I found this picture I took that I sent to some of my writer friends that’s gotta be up there
