Park Jimin was going to die violently and there was nothing he could do about it. 

So after fatefully crying, and then fist-pumping, to BE, I'm back. 

To be completely honest, I loved this part so, so, much. I loved the fact that we had a moment of sassy Jimin standing his ground to Namjoon and biting back (no pun intended). But Jimin has a point. I mean, I wouldn’t want someone to be like “I plan on killing you because I don’t think you’re the most worthy, but no hard feelings, right?” like wtf?!?!! I also wonder why Jimin chose to fight in human form out of the others. Maybe it was to show that he could be strong without the extra capabilities? Maybe it was to be more authentic? I’m not sure, but when I read that I was surprised, but I also found myself feeling a bit proud and understanding even though if this goes bad, the scene would be quite tragic and devastating, and just down-right brutal.

On that note too, Namjoon made my blood start to simmer with his snide comments. He sounds like a complete asshole. An overly confident and smart one who needs to be taken down a few pegs, but still an ass. 

I love it. 

But I actually softened up on him during the scene with Yunli because you know that there’s something deeper there in their connection. There was just something in that moment that felt so soul-bonding and unique with them even though I barely know anything about them yet. I'm really interested to see how their story goes later on because it's very pulling and I love this trope.

Another part that I enjoyed was this one:

A strange, desperate frustration overtook you.

He was too far away - and Namjoon was going to take him from you before you could touch him again - before you could breathe him in again-

The cruel wind continued to pull your fragrance toward Jimin like an erotic incense, yet it offered you no such gift in return. You could not discern his scent and you wanted to - needed to - with a voracity that was almost blinding.

Please…

This was just so well-written and emotional, and you see the connection between the Luna and Jimin start to come to fruition in a more prominent way. I mean, Jimin knew what she needed and sent her the braided cloth to help ease her. And it's even more telling when paired with when the Luna said before that she would do anything to save him. Like wow. Wow, okay. So we're really doing this today. 

I can't wait to learn more about Jin and his omega-ness because the part where he released his pheromones was really cool. And I wonder what's going on with the table too…

“Luna rex provocatione means ‘the moon king’s challenge.’ It is never invoked lightly as its consequences are grave indeed… If an alpha believes that he is the true Alpha and the goddess has placed another in his path as a test of worthiness and dedication to the pack, then he will acknowledge his acceptance of this test by declaring luna rex provocatione. Once the challenge has been set forth only the death of the Luna’s first mate or the total surrender of the challenger can satisfy it…”

Jimin offered his rival an overtly feigned smile.

“You plan to kill me and claim my mate. Which part of that could I possibly take personally?”

Tae snorted somewhere in the background and Yoongi elbowed him hard.

Tradition dictated that both alphas meet with their second-in-commands in the chief elder’s chambers to discuss the terms of combat.

Namjoon brought Min Yoongi and Jimin had somehow ended up with Taehyung.

He didn’t remember actually agreeing to make Tae his second…

It just sort of happened somewhere between calming his hysterical mother and quickly reading up on archaic pack law.

The chief elder coughed uncomfortably. Goddess, this ascension was supposed to be easy. He never in a million moons thought he’d be in this position.

The last chief elder who oversaw a luna rex provocatione ritual had immortalized it in his journal as “the single most horrific moment of my life,” describing in detail the Luna howling in torment at the loss of her mate and the victor collapsing over the corpse of his foe in misery and guilt.

As in the past, the outcome of this conflict was already decided by fate…

Pain and regret weighed heavily on the older man as he considered the younger of the two alphas.

Park Jimin was going to die violently and there was nothing he could do about it.

“Because Kim Namjoon issued the challenge, his opponent will decide combat form. Your choices are human form, half-shifted, and wolf-form. After your choice is declared, Namjoon may add a minor alteration if he so desires. Park Jimin, please declare form.”

“Human,” he answered softly - and every single occupant of the room recoiled in response.

It was bad enough to witness a fight in wolf form or half-shifted… but to engage in ritual combat as a human-

It would be brutal - even psychologically disturbing - without the benefit of a wolf’s hide to mask the savagery.

Namjoon’s eyes widened in shock, but he recovered quickly.

“I request teeth and claws.”

Not quite a half-shift. Teeth and claws allowed for attacks using lengthened canines and claws.

It could make a kill slightly more… humane.

Jimin nodded and the elder pressed his seal over the first of the terms.

Author’s note: November is National Adoption Month in the United States. I recognize that not every adoption story has a happy ending and if that’s your story, I honor you and the challenges you have gone through and overcome. You are stronger than you know. 

There are many stories of adoption though, that have brought happy tears to my eyes. I have friends who’ve intentionally adopted children with non-typical needs that require a lifetime of hospital visits or therapy to give them the best shot at life. Met a sweet couple who adopted an older child because older kids are often looked over by potential adoptive parents. Someone dear to my heart adopted a huge brood of siblings (six!) so that none of the kids had to be separated. Every child I personally know who’s adopted, was longed for, hoped for, and the dear desire of their parents’ hearts. 

To all foster parents, all adoptive parents, parents who have given up their children for adoption, adoptive parents-to-be, I salute you.

Namjoon was never the most coordinated person ever which was why you weren’t very surprised when you discovered that this also reflected in his driving skills.

“I don’t get it. Why is it so hard to know when I should start braking?” Namjoon huffs as he comes to another screeching halt at a stop sign, your body involuntarily jerking forward at the halt of movement.

“It comes with experience, Joon.” You roll down your window slightly and turn down the volume of Yoongi’s new mixtape blasting in the car.

Joon had argued earlier that Yoongi had created the best mixtape for a casual drive earlier as he slid the cd into the slot. On such a hot day during the pandemic, it wasn’t very difficult to find an empty parking lot to practice driving around in. It is, however, very difficult for you to convince Namjoon that he’s overthinking the process of braking.

“Okay, but there must be some sort of rule to this. Yoongi just keeps telling me to feel when I should brake but that doesn’t help very much.” Namjoon ironically comes to another very sharp stop at the next stop sign causing you to scramble for the grab handle. A sigh escapes your lips before you can register it.

“Pull over. Let me drive for awhile.”

Namjoon doesn’t protest, almost immediately turning to double park and stopping the car. Exiting the car, the two of you swiftly swap seats.

“I’ll narrate what I’m doing as I drive and you ask me any questions you have. Then we can switch back after and I’ll help you out. Deal?”

Namjoon simply hums in response as you shift the car into drive.

“Okay so, since the lot is empty, I’m gonna press on the accelerator lightly just to gain some speed.” The car pushes forward at a slightly faster rate and you take your foot off the pedal. “So right now we’re just coasting.” The car continues to roll at a steady speed towards the upcoming stop sign. “Notice the distance between the car and that stop sign? We’re going to start pressing the brakes right about here.”

The car slows as you steadily push down on the brakes, finally coming to a smooth stop in front of the white line.

“Okay so what I did there was I started to gradually press down on the pedal to make sure that the stop wasn’t sudden.”

Namjoon nods at this, attempting to process the new information.

“As we go faster, you’ll need to brake earlier and if you’re following another car, you basically just follow whatever they do. Does this make sense?”

“Sort of?” Namjoon fiddles with his fingers as he attempts to process all the information that you’ve given to him. “I mean it all makes sense logically but practically, I’m not sure if I can execute it.”

You hum understandingly as you turn into an empty slot in the parking lot, slowing the car to a stop.

“Okay,” You unbuckle your seat belt and drivers’ door. “Now you try.”

Slowly but surely, Namjoon gets the hang of it.

“So you’re not terrible at driving!” Jimin exclaims as he watches Namjoon come to a comfortable stop in front of their shared apartment later that afternoon.

You chuckle at his reaction.

“He really isn’t.”

Before I start off with anything else, I would first like to say...I KNEW IT HAHAHAHAHAHA!! Big Brain Energy!!!! My last brain cell was there for me because GOD would it have been embarrassing for me if someone else came to pick her up.

All jokes aside, I'm actually really glad though that Jimin was there for her. Not because we're beginning to see this slow-burn start to burn (even though it is one of the highlights), but you get to see them as people, not dance students who are competing to be the best in their class. I mean, the last time we've seen them to the closest to this level of normalcy was in the first part during sign-ups (and we all know how that went). But, there was just a comfort in knowing that you have these two people who are slowly progressing along in their newly established friendship. They can laugh together. They can share their worries and problems with each other. And most of all, they feel comfortable with each other now, and I think that's really beautiful and I love how you mapped this out Shanna. I also really enjoyed the piece you put in about how the main character used to watch Jimin during competitions. It was nice and it made my heart swell even further because Jimin did the same to her, and I just really love the connection and the whole sense of admiration that they share with one another. You come to find that they are actually more similar than you might have thought initially, and I’m enjoying watching how their relationship is blooming.

I’m also glad that she and Finn were able to reconcile, but it just didn’t feel...I don’t know, whole? Like yeah, they are slowly but surely working together to resolve any patches in their relationship, and maybe this is part of what it means to be in a relationship (I wouldn’t know though, I’ve been single for 20 years😅), or maybe I’m just being biased, but that conversation still had a lingering emptiness, and I’m not sure if it will be resolved. Especially now since we see that might have a small crush on Jimin flourishing, which was really entertaining to read.
