A/N || Okay..so technically speaking, this is my first fic. Its definitely not the best…but I hope the readers enjoy it. “Why do you look so sad Y/n? Why don’t you smile?….what’s wrong?” Hyunjin asked you, with concerned eyes.

What was wrong? Everything.

“I can get you everything, just say the word Y/n…Do you need new clothes?”

“No…” You shake your head “…Jewellery?”

“No…that’s not it”

“Then what is it Y/nnie? Are the people here not treating you well?”

“No Hyunjin, they…they’re treating me well” Too well.

"Ahhh is it that you want to spend some time with me Y/n? Well I can clear off my schedule for today so…”

“No Hyunj-”

“Then what do you want?” Hyunjin cut you off. He sounded harsh now. Startled, you looked up to see, the eyes that were full of concern just a few moments ago were gone.They were cold. No, icy. And you realised, you’d done it again. You had vexed him.

“Then, I don’t see any reason for you to not smile if you don’t want any of these..”

“Hyunjin please…”

“SMILE Y/n” He didn’t yell at you. He ordered you.

“I..I-”

“I ASKED YOU TO SMILE DID I NOT?!!!” Hyunjin roared, slamming his hands onto the table.

“Ye-yes” you whispered and tried to force a smile on your face. But that didn’t last too long anyways…You were scared of him now. So scared, that you shuddered at the thought of what he might do, now that you had disobeyed him. And before you even realised, tears began rolling down your cheek.

“Y/n? Why are you crying… don’t cry…SMILE… What do you want? I’ll give you anything. Tell me Y/n!!!!??”

He grabbed your arms, forcing you to look at him. It hurt. But you couldn’t keep it in any longer. Please stop. You wanted to say that to him. You wanted to tell him that if he’d just stop acting so terrifying, everything would be okay.

“Hyunjin..I-I..I want you…I want my Hyunjin back. Hwang Hyunjin. That Hyunjin who was always happy, who was always kind. So kind..this world didn’t deserve him. That Hyunjin who loved to dance and who always sang, but only for me. That Hyunjin who loved me more than anything in this world…who was happy when I was.I need that Hyunjin…my… HYUNJIN.

But you-..you’ve changed.”

Hyunjin suddenly let go of your arms and began to laugh hysterically..

“Hah…ahahahaha…Y/n.my naive little Y/n…don’t you know that the Hwang Hyunjin you’re looking for has already left this world?“

Left this world? What was Hyunjin saying? Wasn’t he standing right in front of you?

"What-” You were cut off by a loud bang.

“So… let me send you to him as well.” Hyunjin whispered into your ears.

Ah…that’s what it was…you had understood now…the day your world fell apart was the day you had abandoned him.

As you took your last breath you heard him say, “You will smile now won’t you? After all, I like it when you smile.”

You should’ve known…the sin you had committed was far from being forgiven or forgotten.

Tears brim at your eyes as you walk up the stairs of your apartment complex to your floor, you’re pretty sure you just had the worst evening of your life.

First, your boss yelled at you because you were late, only because a class ran longer than expected, then you found out you had to work the shift with your least favourite co worker, who is apparently majoring in giving out backhanded compliments. In the last ten minutes of your shift a customer yelled at you because the cream in his coffee wasn’t frothy enough and then, the tip of the iceberg was the pouring rain you had to walk home through. 

Drenched, and ready to cry yourself to sleep, you turn your key and step into your apartment. For a split second you’re confused because the lights are on but then you remember that hyunjin had told you yesterday he’d stay the night at yours today. Before you can feel bad that you’re about to spoil his mood, he appears in your sight with a big smile on his face, which fades when he sees your miserable expression. “hey” you say quietly, slipping out of your sopping wet shoes. 

“hi angel” he says taking a step forward when you walk towards him, his arms engulf you in a tight hug immediately and you start sobbing into his chest.

you shake your head side to side in place of a verbal answer, flipping to the following page. you feel his cold fingers poke into your cheeks, though you pay no attention. hyunjin could do as he please, you would just ignore his antics as you always do.

"okay, then. i'll keep you company." he rolls around the small floorspace, finding great pleasure in your quiet little snort of hidden laughter. you finally lift your eyes off your book to give him a look that indicated how tired, yet amused by him you are.

"you always keep me company."

he shrugs his shoulders, "you're the only one who believes in me. no one else thinks that i exist, so you're kind of stuck with me."

you suppose that it's a valid reason, reading the unsaid sorrow in between his lines. roaming around as a winter spirit when not a single soul ever seemed to be able to just see him had probably been the loneliest a being could ever be.

grinning, he lifts himself up, stretching out an icy hand for you to take, "besides— you're lonely, i don't have anyone else i could talk to, so we both benefit from long nights like these."

and so you grab a hold on him to hoist yourself up, tightening your grip and intertwining your finger between his own, gradually warming his hand up. he calls for the wind, eyes twinkling as the moon smiles at you.

"ready?" he asks, already knowing the answer you'd always given him. you nod, feeling a flutter in your stomach before jumping right out of your window and into the night, flying off to who knows where again with hyunjin, the lonely winter spirit.

a/n: idk whats up with me and always writing stories about exes :> but uh,,i wrote this as a way to get rid of my writer’s blog so i hope someone likes it fdhgshfg

It was cold, way too cold for anyone to be outside and wandering about like Hyunjin was doing right now, his feet not stopping once from the moment he stepped out of his cozy apartment. Yet he just couldn’t, the soft crunch underneath his feet getting louder and louder with each new layer of snow that continued to fall and cover his surroundings. With no destination in mind, Hyunjin let himself get lost in his thoughts, not minding the snowflakes that got stuck in his jet-black hair and eyelashes.

The streets were empty at this time of night, the few streetlights scattered here and there being his only companions in the cold weather. Not like he actually felt the cold anymore, the hour he already spent outside along with the tumultuous storm that was currently taking place in his heart making him numb to the feeling.

That’s how Hyunjin was currently feeling: numb. Numb to everything and everyone around him, the winter scenery he once found beautiful passing by him in a blur. Maybe it was because of the tears in his now dull eyes that threatened to fall at any moment, or maybe because he hasn’t found beauty in anything lately. He didn’t know what it was nor did he care, the only thing in his mind right now being this one simple question.

You have heard the tale, I am sure. The Dark-Haired One seizes a maiden and makes her his bride, as her mother, holy Night-Mare of the golden double-axe, ceases the earth’s harvest in her despair. The story you may have heard prior is my mother’s version, without the details of me in the Underworld.

Like most stories, it begins with the Cloud Collector, my father. Seeing that the King of the Underworld had no queen and that no goddess or nymph desired him, he offered him a bride, the flowerfaced daughter of the Corn-Mother. The King of the Dead accepted.
