Art Dump Part 2

Art Dump Part 2

Here is most* the art I have ever done for Ravings of a Mad Scientist (the defunct wordpress blog that now lives on as this tumblr blog) and it's characters that isn't really bad or nsfw

Do whatever with this art if you want to for whatever reason, no permission needed. I would like credit, but whatever, it's not like I can or would want to stop you anyways.

there is some artist's commentary in the image alt texts of most of the pictures

GECKO GIRL!

She was bitten by a radioactive gecko and can do anything a gecko can (such as climb walls, change colors for camouflage, and has a long sticky tongue [yeah, geckos can do all that, they're the most underrated reptile right below monitor lizards tbh])

She's also an *influencer*, because that's the funny take on a modern version of a news photographer, also it's interesting to explore the various conflicts of interest that would arise from being a superhero vlogger.

If you can't tell, she's my parody of spoderman
It was supposed to be that "glue trap" meme that was a thing on twitter a year or two ago, but I was too hormy when I drew this.

Getting the perspective on the foreground arm REALLY SUCKED. Like, surprisingly difficult. Still looks weird to me.
art is such bullshit this LITERALLY took me TWELVE HOURS STRAIGHT to draw! Like, I started at noon one day and didn't finish until midnight of the same day! HOW???

It's because I have that 'tism that gives you bad handwriting because of you can't draw consistently (yeah, that's one of the many possible symptoms, it really sucks) and also because I didn't practice art enough as a kid which doesn't help. I have to redraw every line like 5-9 times (not even an exaggeration, I have to draw with my finger over the undo button the entire time).

But like, I didn't even end up using this piece for anything! I did it for """Fun""" (not fun) and I don't think it even turned out that good
This twitter "strip game" got something like 1 like and zero retweets on twitter. It did only slightly better on tumblr (that was before I started doing well here)
I drew this for fun, anyways.
I had the idea of doing this specific finger bite pose through the mask, and literally couldn't think of anything else until I drew it.
Prof PhD (He's not a professor, that's his actual legal name), token humanities major at Arete labs with a dark academia aesthetic.

He has a degree in pataphysics, which is the applied science of breaking the 3rd/4rth wall. He is currently having an existential crisis about being a fictional character.

He probably has eyes, I just didn't draw them. I don't like drawing eyes.
lab safety is important
Art Dump Part 2
Dr. Whatshisface, a mad scientist epidemiologist whose superpower is having a very good immune system (his white blood cells can eat through steel beams)

Probably could have found a better shade of red to go against that blue glove, but whatever.
This is Gilgamesh holding Excalibur while standing in front of a portal to the real world (like, the *real* real world. The world where you, the reader, live. It's a portal THROUGH the 3rd wall) (it's a long story)
This is a rare dive into horror (rare for Ravings of a Mad Scientist, most of my other projects are horror themed) featuring an escaped bioweapon that turns people into hangry zombies.

I used actual inflation porn as a reference for this, which I do *not* recommend (did you know some people do that in REAL LIFE? I sure wish I didn't!). I ended up failing to capture that specific kind of body horror, and took like 50 sanity damage.
Dr. Erkon in his bunny suit alt skin (not that kind of bunny suit), Dr. Whatshisface, and Erkon's vaguely Slavic graduate student lab assistant Igorivich (Erkon is not a professor and has no right to be telling Igorivich he's a grad student)

I wish these had more detailed backgrounds, but not if I have to draw them :P
I should have spent more time detailing the monster to make it actually look like an amorphous blob of flesh (instead of just an amorphous blob)
But, I was getting close to the weekly upload deadline I had at the time, so had to leave it like this.
Now that I don't have deadlines, I can spend days upon days getting lost in the details of a single artpiece! (send help)
This was one of those "image hidden under a community label" jokes

The actual drawing was at one point going to be used for a logo or site banner, but that didn't end up happening.
Erkon is too socially inept to understand personal space. Also, this mammary examination is for SCIENCE (I drew this for an article about the evolution of boobs)

This is Miracle Mistress, a parody of Wonder Woman whose basically just a carbon copy of Superguy but with boobs, and she quips and GIRL POWER despite dressing skimpily and having no personality traits other than being a mary sue (she is the token pseudowoke lazy female representation character)
kinda deserved that

the original art file was literally called "instant loss"
If you ever see me sexualizing any character other than Dr. Erkon, it's actually just part of an elaborate ploy to sexualize Dr. Erkon.
eepy scientist
I drew multiple versions of Erkon's butt, and can you blame me?
Lord Erkon Madstein, the Halloween monster mash version of Dr Erkon. Basically just Dr. Erkon but born in the Victorian era (he is a repressed femboy who uses a jekyll/hyde esque serum to change forms to do all his amoral desires [which is being a gay femboy]). I really like his design.
(also Smol Erkon because it's an extremely cute design, there was like a lore reason for that or whatever.)
Smol Erkon going trick or treating.
The Smol Erkon design was inspired by Hololive's Kobo Kanaeru, who I am not a fan of, I just saw her design somewhere and thought those sleeves were ridiculously adorable.
(the only live streams of any kind I have ever watched were that one time Shiori looked through a microscope and those couple times Ollie taught math, because I am too much of a nerd to be a weeb or a simp.)
Feat: Mall Santa from Friday Night Funking, because that was still popular when I drew this
Late concept art of Arch Nemesister (an underused character of mine based off my actual sibling, they wanted them to "look like Ruby Rose and Gwenpool and awesome" because they are a geek).
They went with #5 so that's the cannon one, but everyone else I showed it too liked #1 more so that's cannon in my heart
I won't post much other art from this long ago, because I was still very bad at drawing, but c'mon. C'mon!
(context: Female Hyenas have pseudopenises)

Mimicking that "generic furry artstyle" was very much intentional for this one.
Very early art, made in an art program no one has heard of that was really shit and limiting. It's one of the first pieces I remember drawing for Ravings of a Mad Scientist that doesn't make my eyes bleed TOO much.
It's a T-Class test subject infected with a Half-Life headcrab fighting a xenomorph from the Alien franchise.
his name is Felis and he is very evil :3
Concept art for the logo of Arete Labs, the evil organization that Dr. Erkon runs. It's orange because this was actually concept art for the jumpsuit that the T-Class unpaid intern test subject in that headcrabs vs aliens picture is wearing. (T-Class are a parody of SCP D-Class that are also interns)

Like ten years ago, in middle school history class, we learned about the ancient greek philosophical concept of "Arete" (It's not pronounced AY-RET), which means something I don't feel like explaining, go look it up. And I decided then that if I ever owned a secret aperture-esque undergrown evil laboratory (something that is very normal for middleschoolers to aspire to) I would call it Areté Labs.
At some point, I wanted to have a whole "Ravings of a Mad Scientist expanded universe" full of "madsonas" that are tongue in cheek parodies of villain tropes and science concepts. I had a thing where I would design a fan's OC character with them. The problem was I had like 4 fans at the time, so I only ever made two of these, one with my sibling and the other with my best friend.
This is literally the first time I ever drew Erkon, years ago, and it's terrible, but I feel like it's important to include him here for the sake of posterity.

This was also before I had settled on the current anime esque artstyle for ROAMS. Back then it was much more influenced by early 2000s cartoon-network, but that wasn't sexy enough (very important).

I never actually made a proper concept art series for Dr. Erkon like I did with most later characters, so Erkon's design kind of just evolved over the years (mostly just getting girlier) also I sometimes forget some of the newer elements of his design like his choker since there's no single reference image. It also meant that I didn't realize just how annoying it is to draw the lab coat collar at dynamic angles until it was too late, and I had already got attached to that style of labcoat.
That is a bad way of designing an OC, don't do that
this is a late evolution of one of Erkon's alternate costumes that eventually got turned into its own character, Lord Erkon Madstein (shown earlier)

I'm mostly just showing this for the cute chibi doodles in the corner, which somehow have aged extremely well. No idea how I pulled that off.

Fun fact: This sort of thick outlined anime-esque artstyle is not my main artstyle. I think it is a valuable skill to be able to adapt or change one's artstyle to fit the themes and mood of the current project. I have different artstyles for my other projects (more realistic/highly symbolic source game inspired art, pixel art, smugged pencils).

This is not why the art style is so inconsistent or why the early art is bad, that's because I was bad at drawing when I drew those and also often didn't spend enough time on each piece. Nowadays, I can normally fully develop a new art style after just one or two art pieces.

(in retrospect, ROAMS would have benefited from a faster to draw lower detail art style).

*most of the "bad" art can be found somewhere on my webbed site, twitter, and veeery far down on my Tumblr if you really want to see it, but you don't. To find the NSFW you'll have to hack my computer because I'm keeping it all for myself like an avaricious dragon

Meet the Chemiballs: Exposition and Cute Drawings of the Nonmetals

I love balls. Especially Countryballs, aka Polandball, a popular meme format where countries are embodied in this particular art style. Like Hetalia but for not-weebs. I mean, just look at r/countryball. These little blobs are so cute.

Lots of other "ball communities" have spawned from Countryballs, such as Ideologyballs, Planetballs, and LGBallT. One of the little-known ones is Chemiballs. At first, I thought I was the first one to have the idea as I doodled them in my notebook during chemistry class, but no. Someone beat me to it just a couple of years before me. (hecking go check out the subreddit it's a great small community https://www.reddit.com/r/chemiball/)

Anyways here's some nonmetal balls I drew a couple years ago, AREN'T THEY CUTE??

The three main isotopes of hydrogenball, right to left: Tritiumball, Protiumball (normal hydrogenball), and Deuteriumball. Tritiumball has three neutrons and is radioactive.
Carbonball is done with your weak ass ionic bonding
Two bonded oxygenballs not getting along, they are an unhappy married couple.
Nitrogenball, I lost the original art file so can't export it as a png lol
Phosphorusball, Sulfurball, and Seleniumball. Seleniumball is sad they got left out because they're boring and uninteresting.
Meet the Elementballs: Exposition and Cute Drawings of the Nonmetals

here's an old edutainment blog page I wrote about the these elements if you're interested

Jackrabbits are not rabbits

A bunny rabbit
A jackrabbit

Rabbits and hares are different genuses. It's not really accurate to call a jackrabbit a rabbit as they are hares.

They're called that because early American settlers thought jackrabbits looked kinda like a European rabbit with a jackass's (donkey's) ears.

In reality, it was they who were the jackasses for confusing north American lagomorph nomenclature. Also for all the colonialism and Native American genocide.

Though I guess it's good they didn't name them "Ass Hares".

Anyways, to tell rabbits and hares apart, remember that bnnuy rabbits are smol cute while hares are skrunkly cute.

And then there's pikas. Pikas are ridiculously cute. =:3

A pika

Hey I wonder what this red liquid do-

*evaporates*

Hey I Wonder What This Red Liquid Do-

Yeah, bromine tends to do that.

Hey, where did they go?
