very enticed by the idea of mayday's big elf ass ears being weirdly expressive for someone 100% human . Yes as a matter of fact she CAN move her ears independently from each other and yes she CAN angle and pivot them (within reason... they're on a human head after all) in a given direction to hear someone better ... yes they flatten when she's pissed ... it's just an odd little quirk she has

i think i need to stylize the way i draw nsr characters more . i often get caught up on being super on-model and my ;4(8!!7!6?5,4,57zz suffers as a result (i couldn't think of the word)

Mayzuketober Day 8: Glam Rock

i might have overdone it. Can you blame me though. Goodness GRACIOUS!!!

ONE LAST THING FOR NOW I think there's also a monochromatic hair trait. Which is what mayday might technically have (albeit on the Veery Light side of things) i keep on ticking back and forth between the headcanons "mayday has bleached her hair to HELL" and "mayday's hair is just naturally that light" but i think monochromatic hair would go both ways. Dark orange is literally brown. and Yeeeess i knoow her canon hair is not quite a light orange but rather a light yellow. but for favoritism (nettsy bullshitting) purposes let's just say there is a little TEENSY itsy bitsy shitsy color hue lenience factor for monochromatic hair. i can make a pleasant gradient from orange to off-white without the use of Hue Saturation Luminance Gymnastics therefore it is passable... Anyways i am just chitterchattering on now . Mayday monochromatic hair. Thank you for reading

since zuke's hair is blue... i have two ideas in mind: 1. zuke has a gene that just makes his hair a 'middle ground' color between his parents' hair colors (which... are probably just shades of blue)

2. zuke has a gene that makes his hair analogous to his skin color. and since he's green, that would make his hair blue (even though i still think they're all a blue haired bunch regardless . well. Besides west.)

hmmm.... what if dk west is a literal redhead because he inherited a certain recessive trait from his mom and dad. (It would be kind of funny if neither of them had red hair but were instead carriers ... and it skipped out on everyone BUT west for some reason. he's just special) And instead of it. like. Being a red/orange hair trait like us, in the NSR verse it just makes the person's hair complimentary color scheme-wise to their skin color .... Not a direct equivalent but like you guys get what i mean right

Mayzuketober Day 7: Cats

this one is more of a screen taker-upper but i think both of these are equally important. Number one: i saw a video on tiktok about how cats really like it when people with beards/facial hair nuzzle their hair onto their faces . its apparently because it reminds the cats of when their mama used to groom them. and it had me thinking. i remember reading someone's headcanon that zuke has a cat allergy (and that's why he's more acquainted with reptiles) but i think it'd be really funny if cats gravitated towards him anyway Number two: if elliegator, an alligator, can be blue and purple, does this mean that there is a Possibility that animals in the NSR verse can also be weird colors like the humans are ..??!!! if so, i would imagine that there are a LOT of pet owners with pets the same/similar color as them. There is a red cat lady somewhere with like six cats spanning from orange to violet. ANYWAYS RIGHT This is supposed to be about mayzuke. Errmmm hmm. On the topic of cats. I think there's a candid picture in mayday's camera roll somewhere of zuke stretching his back experimentally via arching on the floor like a cat. Mayday thinks it's the funniest fucking image ever and sometimes she will just send zuke that photo of him to himself out of NOWHERE mid conversation and he has to put his phone down and take a breather every time

it hurts just a little bit to realize most No Straight Roads characters will never get to experience the joys of picking a crazy ass booger out of yheir nose because of their stupid ridiculous hands and massive fucking fingers relative to their faces. ithat also makes me realize that monkeys and primates also might have flared limbs like a lotr of the humans do and i'm not sure how to feel about that. were the neanderthals also fun colors? this nsr biology anthropology shit gets serious

Mayzuketober Day 5: Comfort

nothing too fancy schmancy tonight ... this was colored at first but it looked completely different. Then i realized i wasn't the biggest fan of the colored version so i focused on the lineart instead. and thennnnn i was like. Well i can't just *leeeave* it in black & white. so i put on some color layers and fancy blending modes and shit and i realized This is kind of fire

more nettsy ramblings below.......

lately i've been thinking a lot about disabled Zuke ... i've seen a lot of headcanons about him having something in his legs/back/shoulders (based on how his drumsticks have a cane form ingame) + one of the mayzuke fics i read daily mentions him with multiple sclerosis and it's kind of stuck with me since then i think Zuke is often busying himself with Something in order to take his mind off the baseline pain but the way he does it is. like. really subtle. he doesn't jump from thing-to-thing like a metronome, but he'll get really really absorbed in books or projects in his workshop or transcribing drum tracks before he gets the chance to dwell on it. i feel sometime after actually starting the band with Mayday, he had talked to her about it, and it's lingered in the back of her mind since. of course, she encourages Zuke to go all out -- always has, and she always will -- but, like, she never forces him to over-exert himself. she'll remind him to. like. Listen to his freaking body. ...but May won't force him to stop what he's doing, either; won't hang his condition over him like an oppressive weight, she just takes precautionary measures to minimize the chance of it biting him in the ass later on . because at the end of the day it's Zuke who knows himself best & she trusts that he's aware his own limits. she's not a tether ... she's more of a safety net. so Zuke can focus on enjoying all his body has to offer instead of worrying hard about how he'll feel later on and... if Zuke's fine, then Awesome! if he needs May at his side for whatever reason, be it some assistance, or to listen -- or even just for the sake of Not being alone -- she'll be right at his side in less time than it takes to say 'Bunk Bed Junction.' which, i can't really say that this is exactly what's Going on in the drawing itself because it's sort of ambiguous and up to interpretation but. i had this all vaguely in mind while making it. inspired by today's prompt being 'comfort'

an hour and 20 minutes after they left the laundromat ... I feel like zuke is the kind of guy who often goes into food comas . On the other hand mayday turns it all DIRECTLY into energy
