“I’ve been imagining our wedding day,” she confesses when he settles in beside her, setting her coffee down on the nightstand. “When I was very small, before my hunger, I would wear my mother’s bridal clothes and imagine what my beloved would be like, what he’d say when he came to me at the altar.”
He imagines little Wednesday, a dark gauzy veil over her head, hands clasped in supplication. He wants to send his love and devotion back in time to her, whispering the words she most wanted to hear.
