In Light Of This News, I Do Wanna Say This For Anyone Who Needs It: Staying Informed/in The Loop And
in light of this news, I do wanna say this for anyone who needs it: staying informed/in the loop and doomscrolling are two different things, and it's important for your mental health to know what that difference is for you.
it's essential now more than ever to make sure that we're in the loop with current events and politics. this post is absolutely not advocating for ignoring the news, especially considering factors such as privilege. if you're able to, please do try to stay informed. but there comes a point where information can become too much (particularly when you belong to a marginalized group), causing stress, anxiety, and burnout. being an informed citizen shouldn't come at the expense of your wellbeing.
right now, please ask yourself: am I checking the news to stay up to date, or am I checking it because I'm scared? am I following current events to enhance my understanding, or am I following it because I'm too anxious to tear away?
if you feel rising panic, dread, and anxiety that's spiraling, it's time to step back. being an informed citizen doesn't mean agonizing over things you can't control. when that happens, it's time to rein yourself back in.
consider this post a checkpoint, especially if you're an American, black/a person of color, a marginalized identity (be it religious, gender/sexuality, or disability), or any combination thereof. it's alright to step back and care for yourself.
allow yourself room to breathe. it'll be okay. you'll be able to step back in when you're ready.

Just like the post states, Disney has NO RIGHT to trademark these names that DO NOT belong to them. MORE SO as they only have interest in making MONEY from doing so. I am not a religious person, but I have enough respect and understanding to know when a culture is being DISGRACED for, what? Money?
So FUCK DISNEY.
YES, they have been a part of most peoples childhoods. YES, they are a part of history itself, BUT what they are doing now is unacceptable and inconsiderate of those before us and those who still believe in this religion that’s been around WAY BEFORE Disney.
Disney has trademarked the names of a bunch of Norse gods.
This is not okay.
These gods do not belong to Disney. They do not belong to Marvel. They belong to themselves and themselves alone, along with all those who worship them as the deities they are.
Thor, Loki, Odin, etc., these gods were not thought up by anyone at Disney or Marvel.
Stan Lee knew how sacred these gods are to those who follow many different Pagan traditions, how sacred they are to Scandinavian cultures to whom they are so important.
My best friend follows the Norse gods. She will be so bloody offended when she finds out about this. These are her gods, this is her religion. These are the deities she worships, the gods she prays to, the traditions she follows. She enjoys the Marvel portrayals of these characters, but they are separate from the gods she believes in.
Disney is stepping on her religion in an effort to gain more and more money.
Stan Lee did not trademark these names. He understood their importance and their sacred meaning. He was respectful enough not to do this.
These names are not the intellectual property of anyone. Neither the original names in runes nor the anglicised names that are used in Marvel's works.
They were around well before us (a whole ass millennium before us), and they will be around well after the greedy bastards who have decided to trademark religious symbols are dust.
It should be common sense and common courtesy not to trademark the names of religious figures, which all of these gods and goddesses are, even if you do not believe in them.
mod is not christian but you would never see me trademark jesus ffs it crosses a Line
If you agree, please sign and share the petition. If you can, please chip in to get this petition everywhere it can possibly go.
It is f**king disgusting that Disney is doing this.
It needs to stop.

Oh, and one more thing.
FUCK DISNEY.
i want to throw up ive included a bunch of tags trying to get the norse pagans attention bc im sure they'll want in on this if u have an in with the norse paganism community on tumblr pls do tag everyone u can
im wondering now if they've done this to the greek gods too ughh that would show even more of a disregard for other people's religious views and past people's religious views ughhhh ok imma go look at the toilet bowl for a bit 😅pls sign it'd mean the world to me

An Updated Guide to Face Masks
A year into the pandemic, many experts advise that we upgrade our masks to protect ourselves against more-contagious variants of the coronavirus. The good news is we now have more mask options to choose from. Here’s what to know:
N95
An N95 mask filters out 95 percent of 0.3 micron particles, the hardest size to trap. But many people don’t wear N95s correctly, making them less effective. N95s are hard to find, and counterfeits are common. Avoid N95s with respirator valves, which expel your germs onto others.

KN95
The KN95, made in China, also filters 95 percent of hard-to-trap particles. It has ear loops instead of head straps, so may not fit as snugly. The mask supply chain is also riddled with counterfeit KN95s, which may work only about as well as a cloth mask.

KF94
The KF94 is a top pick among health experts for its quality, high filtration rate and snug fit, with top and bottom flaps, and a moldable nose bridge. It can be easier to speak wearing a KF94. Make sure yours is made in Korea, where quality control efforts make counterfeits less likely.

Surgical mask
A rectangular surgical mask is made from pleated synthetic fabric that expands to fit around your face. It can trap 60 to 80 percent of particles in the lab, but in the real world, gaps around the edges make surgical masks less effective. You can improve the fit by knotting the ear loops.

Two-layer cloth mask
Studies show that a two-layer cloth mask with a third layer of filter material is the best non-medical mask. But filtration rates vary depending on the fabric. Hold it to the window to see how much light sneaks through. Pro tip: Head ties create a tighter fit than ear loops.

Double masking
Double masking is an easy way to upgrade a favorite cloth mask. Just wear a cloth mask over any type of medical mask to help seal gaps around the edges and add another layer of protection. Remember, any face covering is better than nothing, and the best mask is the one you will wear consistently.

Happy international woman’s day to all the ladies out there~ 🌹🌹🌹

“Many of my movies have strong female leads - brave, self-sufficient girls that don’t think twice about fighting for what they believe in with all their heart. They’ll need a friend, or a supporter, but never a saviour. Any woman is just as capable of being a hero as any man.” -Hayao Miyazaki
Happy International Women’s Day!
My dear lgbt+ kids,
If you’re a teenager, you are allowed to have a crush on teenage celebrities - even if you’re both the same gender.
“Don’t sexualize teenage celebrities” means adults shouldn’t act as if teenagers are sexually avaible to them, just because they happen to be famous. It means it’s not okay to disguise pedophile thoughts as “normal fan behavior”. It means that being a fan does not give anyone the “right” to be creepy, the “right” to make someone uncomfortable and harrass them.
It does NOT mean “Gay teenagers are overly sexual and predatory and gross” - and if someone uses it to make you feel that way, they’re twisting it to excuse their homophobia.
Boys having celebrity crushes on boys is okay. Girls having celebrity crushes on girls is okay. There’s nothing predatory or overly sexual about that. Those romantic feelings for someone who is far away (and doesn’t know you exist) can even be a healthy way to “test the waters”, can help you explore your feelings in a safe way.
It goes without saying that you shouldn’t do anything that makes them uncomfortable or harrass them in any way, either. Respect boundaries - but that goes for everyone and it’s actually homophobic to imply that gay teenagers are more likely to harass celebrities than straight teenagers are.
It’s just a modern spin on the old myth that “gay people are all pedophiles!”. There’s no truth to that.
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Dad
