You blink your eyes open, and blearily drink in the blue morning light sifting through your apartment.

Sitting up, you ruffle your hair, which has become twisted and messy with sleep. The blanket which had been pulled over you slides onto the floor with a soft fwump. 

Your dog is asleep in his basket, breathing lightly.

The events of last night trickle to the forefront of your brain, muddling your thoughts. It seems distant and blurry now. Getting up, you see two empty mugs, cleaned and rinsed, sitting on your kitchen counter. The remnants of the night before.

Yoongi wraps a gentle but firm arm around your waist, pulling you closer to his side until your head rests on his shoulder. The two of you have taken advantage of your daughter’s sleepiness by curling up in the den of Yoongi’s apartment with red wine swirling in glasses beneath your fingertips, listening to nothing but the crackle of the fireplace.

Yoongi continues to thumb circles into your side, while he picks up his glass for another sip.

“It’s career day at Yeona’s school next way,” you say quietly, watching as previously dry pieces of firewood catch ablaze.

Yoongi hums lazily, “That’s nice. Have fun telling a bunch of five-year-olds about the riveting world of finance.”

“My job is fun, fuck you,” you scoff.

“Ah, yes, the exciting life of an accountant. Tell me, what’s more fun, the endless spreadsheets or the walk to the fax machine?”

“I have my own fax machine in my office, asshole.”

“Of course! I forgot they only give those out to the accountants who actually like their jobs.”

You tilt your neck to give him a glare, as if the look on your face will wipe the smirk off of his, “Have I told you today that I don’t like you?”

He grins, intertwines your fingers and kisses the back of your hand, “No, but I don’t like you, either.”

You push him back, mumbling about how much of an asshole he is through laughter, but retract back into curling into his arms anyway. Yoongi drops a light kiss to the top of your head, encouraging you to go forward with what you were going to say.

“Before you so rudely insulted my job,” you tease, “I was going to tell you that she asked me if you could go with her.”

He pauses. He doesn’t move, he doesn’t speak; he only stares ahead, thinking of what you just said. The idea of Yeona wanting him to come to her school with her tugs on his heartstrings, he feels warm inside, and not due to the fire in front of him.

“She does?” is his quiet, almost whisper of a response.

“Yeah. She does,” you nod your head on his shoulder, “She really loves you, you know that? She never shuts up about you.”

“The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, then,” he grins. 

“Didn’t you hear me say that I despise you a couple moments ago? Don’t let her love cloud your memory, Yoon.”

Yoongi simply dips his head and kisses you on the lips, “It’s too late for that.”

Later, when you and Yoongi are ready to call it a night, he brings up the subject again. (He’s completely infatuated with the idea of going to her school as her dad and he’s a bit too prideful to say that, but his excitement is cute, nonetheless).

“Now that I think of it, it makes sense that she would want me to go,” he leers, “My job is significantly cooler than yours.”

With a slack-jaw, you push him into the wall, leaving his chuckles echoing throughout the hallway, “Min Yoongi, you’re such an asshole!”

“Mommy?” you hear a high-pitched voice call, and turn to see your daughter standing in-between the doorway of her room and the hall, “Why are you calling Yoonie bad words?”

“Yeah, mommy,” Yoongi grins, “Why are you calling me bad words?”

You might just have to show up to career day yourself; there’s no guarantee Min Yoongi will be alive by then, anyway.

You see that the margins are covered in doodles, little cartoons and make-believe stories etched onto every far corner of the page.

You open your mouth to introduce yourself, but the sound of your teacher’s voice has you facing the blackboard once more. You try not to think too hard about the new boy sitting beside you, gently humming to himself as he doodles butterflies in an open meadow.

At recess, you’re playing with a few friends, doing cartwheels and rolling around on the grass. You’re giggling with your friend, Chaeyoung, when you hear a ruckus happening not too far away.
