I’m a crochet nut, I crochet things 😜🧶

Anyways, I wanted to show off a project I’ve had in the works for a long time.

I decided to make myself a crocheted Tintin amigurumi doll, my longest project yet. But believe me, completing it was worth it!

My process below, as well as doll pics:

My Tintin doll was a very…interesting project to tackle. Much of it was all a process of trial and error; it was a matter of finding the right color yarns, as well as using the correct crochet hook to make a reasonably sized doll.

I tried using a 5mm hook and I wound up scrapping the initial project because my doll wound up too big.

So I decided to use a 2.5mm crochet hook. I followed a tutorial on constructing a basic amigurumi doll by Limlenn crochet on YouTube. And I managed to make my doll smaller. But then the clothes…

I initially wanted to make the clothes removable, including the shirt, pants, and shoes. But I was making my Tintin doll a seated doll, which of course presented a lot of difficulties. So I went with making the shoes part of the legs and making separate pant leg pieces to attach to the body, with the shirt being the only removable piece of clothing.

And, lo and behold, I have finally completed him! I still find it so surreal that I actually have it done.

And before you ask, I will make Snowy eventually! I just need to rest my fingers for a while.

And stay tuned for (possibly) Haddock and maybe Chang amigurumi dolls soon…

I say soon as in, I don’t know if I’ll do them or not.

I have been on bad mode lately so I rewatched my favorite series and obviously I did some doodles of my favorites hobbits.

They are so precious, i genuinely love this series with all my heart and i look forward to every one. 🩷

The final part for The House of Glass! Everyone has a lot to figure out, but progress takes time. Follows from this. This was my first ever complete comic from start to finish, I hope you guys enjoyed the journey!

I've really wanted to write Chang as someone who's made to be a perpetual outsider. As a Chinese person born in the UK I've always been made to feel like a foreigner no matter where I go - obviously I am a foreigner abroad but I'm also treated as such in the very country I was born and raised in. I think a lot of east Asian people can relate to being treated as a strange exotic foreigner first and a person second.

As a working class orphan he would probably have been treated as disposable by society at large too. As soon as he's rescued by Tintin in the Blue Lotus he immediately asks why Tintin bothered saving him, and in his letter to Tintin in Tintin in Tibet he writes that he's unworthy of his uncle's hopsitality. We don't get much from Chang as he doesn't make many appearances but it seems he's internalised strong feelings of a lack of self worth. Tintin may have been the first person to recognise his humanity since Chang's birth family passed.

Being queer is also very isolating at first. You're not born into a culture you can reference or make sense of your experiences initially, it's something you have to seek out. I wanted to explore learning to love yourself through others. We're all weird to some degree, we're all in this together!

I genuinely have no clue how I'd follow this up, I have ideas for future stories but I'm not sure what would follow directly from here!
