I Work At A Movie Theater.

I work at a movie theater.

And personally? To be in the tickets booth, and see young girls, teenagers, adult women, coming in to see Barbie,

the most highlighter pink outfits, some of them coming in with the dolls they’re dressed as, laughing to each other, cheering for each other,

to see the men they’re coming to see it with, dressed in pink, cheering them on, taking their pictures with smiles and cheers in the lobby at the photo op

touches something so deep in me

I can’t say any nuances of the movie that haven’t already been said, but like, fuck man, love is so deep and so kind and to be able to see glimpses of it from behind my little ticket desk makes me a little less nihilistic.

Remember how we were little and we loved pink and Barbie and dolls and princesses?

Remember how we got old enough to realize that people were making fun of us and not enough people told us to ignore them so we got embarrassed and we hated ourselves. Pink was our least favorite color until perhaps recently when we were neutral towards it at best.

But something in us changed when we decided we needed to see Barbie (2023). The women and girls I saw wearing their best pinks today. I purposely bought MYSELF something pink for the first time I can remember.

We’re giving ourselves the freedom we took away.

Hey but it’s like. Okay if they don’t. If you’ve ripped out your eyebrows one too many times and they stop growing back you’re still a) a really cool person and b) very fucking pretty.

To be clear I have pulled out my eyebrows multiple times and will likely do so again and i am actually so attractive and cool even when I don’t have eyebrows thanks for coming to my ted talk

Ps this applies to other bfrbs as well. If you have scars from ripping your skin up you’re still hot sorry i dont make the rules

every so often I see posts from millennials about how they’ve permanently fucked up their eyebrows from over plucking, and I thank god that mine grew back perfectly intact after everything I put them through

as my own direct immediate list of game grievances i hate that stardew valley expects you to side against a wheelchair user who is upset that he was moved without his consent. i hate that the mass effect trilogy gives you visible scarring as a direct result of choosing mean dialogue and heals it if you're nice. i hate that the vampire the masquerade ttrpg has a monstrous player class that can appear as horrible vampiric monsters or as visibly disabled people and both of these appearances are mechanically the same. i hate that dark souls games have a difficulty level implemented in a way that cannot be adjusted for disability. i hate that i can play as a mermaid or a werewolf or a horse in the sims games but can't use a wheelchair. i hate that the ace attorney games have so much flashing and not all of the games can disable it. i hate that disability is constantly something that happens to teach a lesson, i hate that disability is something that happens as a punishment, i hate that disability is either compensated perfectly with no drawbacks or something that is endlessly sought to be cured. i hate that no character customization will ever include the mobility aids i use, that the player avatars that represent me will never look like me. i am so goddamn annoyed and so goddamn tired.

A collage of various text quotes and images of objects and art such as a knife with a bird carved in the handle, an eye made of woven glass, a red and gold harlequin venetian mask, and a bucket pouring out feathers. There is also a red-robed angel holding a spear, and a red-robed cat thinking or saying "I've grown tired of this quest".

Text quotes from top to bottom are:

Three is the best and most important rule. When you are Dead, you don't have to be afraid of anything.

Come, thick night / And pall thee in the dunnest smoke of hell, / That my keen knife see not the wound it makes, / Nor heaven peep through the blanket of the dark, / To cry "Hold, hold!

It's / always / either waiting or hurting, you know, / and often / one can't tell the difference.

you've already passed the place where / you were supposed to die. I can no longer remember / the being afraid, only that it came to an end.

God said: / GOD MADE YOU. GOD DOES NOT CARE IF YOU ARE "GUILTY" OR NOT. / I said: / I CARE IF I AM GUILTY! / I CARE IF I AM GUILTY! / God was silent.

having a cat is great. every day i'm like 'how did i live life before this.' i mean yes the crime rate in my house is up like 40,000% percent. but. worth it for the new experiences every day with this guy.
A complex collage of predominantly green and orange, with a painting of a tree-shaded house and a pencil drawing of a shepherd leaning heavily on his walking stick while herding sheep. There is also a line drawing of two birds tearing into a seemingly calm man, and another statue of glass knitting, this time a gradient of green to red yarn between two knitting needles.

Text on the page from top to bottom is:
I am asking you to endure it. I am aware that this request is fundamentally selfish. I can offer no justification for it, no argument in its favor. It is simply the outcome I desire to see the most. So I am asking you.

A message from an unpronounceable username of consonants says "Hi! You have great eyes, I can't seem to get rid of them."

A comic of a cat standing on a roof says "My taste for independence sometimes leads me to rooftops", with an offscreen speaker replying, "I feel that."

A small metal pin says "Support Mental Health or I'll KILL YOU."

There is a period when it is clear that you have gone wrong but you continue. Sometimes there is a luxurious amount of time before anything bad happens.

My neighbors have been dying, one after the other / in a row, each day, from east to west. You told me / that if I didn't want to end up dead like my / neighbors, that I should keep moving west. That / seems like the last direction I'd want to move in.

"I don't know what's going to come out of me," I told her. "It has to be perfect. It has to be irreproachable in every way." "Why?" she said. "To make up for it," I said. "To make up for the fact that it's me."

A small illustration of a cat reads "I am no longer evil. I just want 2 B loved."

Some sacrifices are impossible to live up to

Lastly there are two panels of a comic. The first one, with a number 6 clearly inside the vision test it displays, reads, "If you see a number in this circle, you can see ghosts." The second panel does not have an identifiable number, and reads, "If you see a number in this circle, you can tell good ghosts apart from evil ghosts."
A collage dominated by red, black, and white, this panel has pictures of a bright red angelic creature with many eyes and albatross wings, holding a knife. Across from it is a line of indistinct angels, haloed and holding spears or staves. At the bottom half of the screen is a pink-toned picture of a ghost placing flowers on a skeletal corpse; the ghosts face is hidden behind the angelic host. A painting with a red-sweatered person sitting anxiously on a red couch has overlaid text which reads "Haven't forgotten yet; what happens on the day when I forget?" The head of the seated person is off the top edge of the page.

Text is as follows:

Read more about the theme of life as a meaningless puzzle.

The family name for albatrosses, Diomedeidae, and the genus name for the great albatrosses, Diomedea, originate from Diomedes. According to a legend, the goddess Venus seeing the men of Diomedes cry so bitterly transformed them into birds (Diomedee) so that they could stand guard at the grave

Forgive dead players: OFF

Last night I dreamed / grief was an unlit room that I had to clean. / Just as I figured out how to navigate its darkness / I put something away and had to learn all over. / You were there. You were saying why bother / when the room was only going to get messy again / and I told you if you weren't going to help / at least get out of the way. It's quiet now / the storm splits open like sacramental bread, / and I love you I love you. Can you hear me?

I will not go gentle into that good night. I'm gonna be a huge bitch about it.

My name is abel, said cain.

The safest place to bury a body / is in another body / is in your own body.

To slip a stitch - to pass it from one needle to the other without knitting.

To cease to exist / and to die / are two different things entirely. / But you knew this, / didn't you?
The majority of this panel is taken up by a massive, dusty mirror, shaped like a traditional tombstone. Inscribed on the mirror is "Grian - Against the assault of laughter, nothing can stand." A lit candle sits in front of the mirror, faintly reflected in it. Also faintly visible in there mirror is a ghostly figure, carrying a red lantern.

The page gradients from white to grey at the bottom- at the top are four pieces of text, which are as follows:

Do you believe in ghosts? Of course. I have seen longing grow legs and follow me.

who decides if the sacrifice is worth it? the one being sacrificed for or the one doing the sacrificing? or is it the one being sacrificed?

What's done is done, and what's past is past, and what's bananas is all of it.

Although Lazarus may have clumsily shuffled into the light on his own, first he had to be called. It is almost too painful to admit this, but that change we can neither abide nor ignore does force the question: Would he want to come back?
