GUIL: How long have you suffered from a bad memory?
ROS: I can’t remember.
— Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
“I haven’t forgotten — how I used to remember my own name — and yours, oh yes! There were answers everywhere you looked. There was no question about it — people knew who I was and if they didn’t they asked and I told them.”
— Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
Guildenstern: We need to think, how do we usually get out of these messes?
Rosencrantz: We don’t. We just make a bigger one that cancels the first one out.
rosencrantz is the kind of person who stays out in the rain to rescue worms from the sidewalk
guildenstern is the kind of person who complains at their friend for staying out in the rain to rescue worms from the sidewalk, but stays out in the rain with them anyways
“Give us this day our daily mask”

made a quiz
haha im gonna cry about ros and guil… I don’t want them to Be Dead and be trapped in an narrative out of their control I want them to smooch a little and hold hands and own a dog grooming parlor together :,^)
character(s): Ros n Guil + singing
I’m going to start this off by linking you to this
And
Rosencrantz would sing a lot of children’s rhymes and folk songs to pass the time, but he gets the words wrong a lot, just little things but enough to bother Guildenstern, and sometimes he fusses to him about it but sometimes he doesn’t. Sometimes Guildenstern can’t even remember the right lyrics, but he still notices.
Guildenstern doesn’t sing much himself, though he has a much nicer singing voice than Rosencrantz.

a kiss for you
offscreen guil is rolling his eyes but he’s just jealous

GUIL: It [Hamlet’s madness] really boils down to symptoms. Pregnant replies, mystic allusions, mistaken identities, arguing his father is his mother, that sort of thing; intimations of suicide, forgoing of exercise, loss of mirth, hints of claustrophobia not to say delusions of imprisonment; invocations of camels, chameleons, capons, whales, weasels, hawks, handsaws – riddles, quibbles and evasions; amnesia, paranoia, myopia; day-dreaming, hallucinations; stabbing his elders, abusing his parents, insulting his lover, and appearing hatless in public – knock-kneed, droop-stockinged and sighing like a love-sick schoolboy, which at his age is coming on a bit strong. ROS: And talking to himself. GUIL: And talking to himself.
stoppard, oeuvre
The first character I first fell in love with: Mm, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern—my first Stoppard was everyone’s first Stoppard.
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Valentine Coverly. Ugh, fuck off with your algorithms and carefully chosen vocal cadences, Edmund, I’m ruined forever.
The character everyone else loves that I don’t: BECAUSE I CAN FIGHT SO HARD WITH THE STOPPARD FANDOM, RIGHT. Hmm, let’s go with William Shakespeare—Shakespeare in Love counts, even if it is alimony, and I can’t with Joseph Fiennes.
The character I love that everyone else hates: Again, the “Stoppard fandom” is not an especially vitriolic place. But no one has my Natalie Beyer feels. NO ONE HAS MY NATALIE BEYER FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELS.
The character I used to love but don’t any longer: NONE. Stoppards are forever, etc.
The character I would totally smooch: Yo Septimus Hodge, do me Byronical-like atop a stack of algebraical proofs. I’ll blow out the candle first.
The character I’d want to be like: Thomasina Coverly is my best self x10. I wish I was actually that bright.
The character I’d slap: Byron? Or pick anyone in Travesties. Not that I’m mad, just that they all probably need the slap.
A pairing that I love: THOMASINA/SEPTIMUS, BURN MY HEART WITH CANDLEFLAME.
A pairing that I despise: I have no space for hatred in the Stoppard ventricle of my heart, come on.

for the pallette challenge, #54 (naive) for rosencrantz ? :D 💕

just a conspiracy of cartographers
incorrect shakespeare quotes #7
claudius: you two should know by now that this kind of idiocy will not be tolerated.
rosenstern: is there a special type of idiocy you'd be more comfortable with?
guildencrantz: because we'd be more than happy to provide that for you.

This is actually why I like ragad, it reminds me my favourite book:
