Activities

Put up wards to keep out unwanted spirits

Put jars of salt by your door to protect your home

Sprinkle some salt in your mouth right before you go to bed to protect your dreams

Light candles to help guide spirits

Tell stories of dead relatives and friends

Write about the dead in your book of shadows

Give offerings to your ancestors

Pray at your altar

Cleanse your space with incense

Drink hot drinks

Bake bread or pies

Add fall recipes to your book of shadows

Paint and decorate pumpkins

Contact spirits through divination

Ask for advice from your ancestors

Be thankful for the food you have

Dust and tidy your altar

Look at pictures of deceased loved ones

Dress in fall colors

Go for a walk in nature, observe the leaves turning. Consider the cycles of life and death that govern our world.

Light a bonfire/small fire (safely!) and burn papers with things that no longer serve you, that you cannot afford to take into winter.

Make an offering to your deities or ancestors

Make food with seasonal ingredients symbolic of the final harvest: squashes, pumpkins, grains, apples, spices. Even wine, if you’re allowed to drink.

Prepare your home and yourself for the coldest part of the year. Redo protection spells, clean out clutter, develop sustaining spells for winter.

Reflect on the past year. What did you lose? What people left your life, what things no longer hold meaning for you? How did you change as a person?

Work with various forms of divination, like runes, pendulums, tea leaves, or tarot.

If you do work with ouija boards you better be SUPER DUPER careful. Do not neglect protections, and if you feel uncomfortable, stop, protection spells and cleanse, cleanse, cleanse.

Give some time or money to a cause you’re passionate about. If your harvest is abundant, give back to those who were not so fortunate.

Types of Water Divination

Hydromancy: divination using water

The flow of water speaks to the intensity of current and/or upcoming events. To practice this method, dip a metal ring in water and gauge the movements like using a pendulum for "yes/no," or interpret the answer from the number of ripples that arise.

Acultomancy: divination with needles

Using needles in water or flour, the diviner would interpret shapes and patterns created by the needles in the substance. 21 or 7 needles would be used following the question being asked. The broken line may mean traveling or heading on a new journey. The parallel lines may mean money in the future, either given or taken away. The vertical lines are meant as guided roads to take. The horizontal lines may mean what the fate will be.

Ceroscopy: divination with molten wax in water

Light the candle with your question in mind and allow the wax to drop into the bowl of water. As the wax forms shapes and pattens, use these to interpret an answer to your question.

Quercusmancy: divination with acorns and oak trees

Lovers can drop acorns into the corner of a body of water. If the acorns touch, the lovers are meant to be. Acorns were also carried as lucky charms. If an oak tree shed its leaves, an oath was said to be broken.

Lecanomancy: divination with oil and water

Drop oil or rocks into a bowl of water and interpret the shapes and ripples in answer to your question.

Carry Rosemary and salt in your pocket, purse, or keep in a satchel.

A lit white candle in a circle of salt will protect a room.

A lit black candle repels and banishes unwanted energy quite well.

Hang Garlic in your kitchen to ward away mischief and evil.

Add Pine essential oil to cleaners for an added cleansing boost when washing tile/hardwood floors.

Grow Rosemary, Lilac, Lavender or Rose at your doorways to protect them.

Use knot magick when tying shoe laces, bows, headbands, etc for added protection.

Draw protective sigils or wards onto your skin with make up or lotion/moisturizer before blending.

Hang protective charms off your pet’s collar.

Sprinkle a combination of Salt, Lavender, Rosemary and/or Rose onto a hard surface and sweep/vacuum the next morning for a cleansing sweep.

Easy Witchcraft Tips

I feel like I got a really good response to easy tips, especially from beginner practitioners and those still in the broom closet, so I'm going to put together a quick list of easy (and easily excusable) little tricks that made my practice easy in a house that used to be full of Mormons.

Leave a bottle of water on the windowsill or dresser in front of the window on nights of the full moon to make moon water. It's just a water bottle, right?

Small runes and sigils can be drawn with white crayon/colored pencil on white walls and no one will be able to see it. Plus, it can be easily removed with a magic eraser sponge. Tuck them into corners, right above the floor, or right underneath a window.

If you want crystals, and you have the money for it, there are bracelets of crystal beads that can be easily passed off as accessories.

Scented candles are still colored candles. You can use a 'smell good' candle for its color.

You can absolutely use essential oils as herb replacements. Just make sure to keep them away from pets, and do not ingest them. Tap some onto your clothes to carry its effect around with you.

If you have a wax melter: melt the wax, pour it into a tray of some sort (I use a silicone mold) and add dried herbs. No burn, slow-release spell. Easily cleaned with hot water.

If no one snoops too much, hide slices of lemon around your room. As they dry, they absorb negative energy. Once they're completely dry, you can throw them away, burn them, bury them, put them in a jar to throw away at school, etc.

Mix powdered herbs with a little bit of moon water to make a thick 'paint', then apply somewhere covered on your body to infuse your presence with its effects.

Toss in a bit of sea salt in a spray bottle and fill with moon water. Shake to dissolve. Cleansing spray! You can tell your housemates that you had acne issues, and salt dries out spots. Just keep the misting very light so it dries, and vacuum/sweep and mop often.

I'll be making a few more of these kinds of posts, as well as some other easy spells and tricks. Feel free to send me more ideas to add to new posts! Good luck, and blessed be <3
