Regarding the plot hole you mentioned, here's an idea.
In the original cutscene, a writhing snake of gloom homes in on the master sword, taking Link's arm with it. If we rewind time just a second, things could have gone differently.
Instead of focusing on the master sword, the gloom correctly identifies the source of Hylia's light, and decides its number one priority is to snuff it out. The gloom goes left to snake around Link. Link slashes at the incoming gloom, which almost works, but doesn't stop the torrent. Zelda meanwhile sees the incoming danger and turns clockwise to run away, but as she does, she swings her right arm behind her a little too far, and the gloom takes hold, and it holds fast.
Like a sea of writhing hands, the gloom crawls up Zelda's arm, dragging her back, while Link is slashing at the snake with the master sword. Having tainted Hylia's light, the gloom decides to shift its attention. It expends its energy infesting the master sword with its taint before retreating to recharge.
When Ganon's gloom destabilizes the ground, Zelda falls off and Link jumps after her, dropping the master sword in the process. While they're falling, Raaru's hand grabs Zelda, and she and Link manage to grab each other in a human chain, but Zelda's infested hand is weak and she can't keep her grip. Link falls into the void, where the secret stone activates, sending Link away.

Dumb pokemon game idea
Pokemon set in the netherlands. Your mom gives you a bicycle instead of running shoes. You can get on a bicycle at any time and Rowan's words don't echo in your ear. In the cities there are constant streams of bicycles going up and down the streets kind of like Nimbasa, but blocking someone immediately starts a battle. There are train stations that can transport you to any city but you can't use them until mid/late game because "all the trains have been cancelled." Cycling road is inspired by the Oostershelde, and the game lampshades this by asking why it's called cycling road when bicycling there is so difficult. A significant majority of pokemon can learn bulldoze.
Byrne can resurrect Mallard and run her on the mainline, as a treat

Gerudo Lynel's Eye is primarily composed of a yellow gemstone with layers of red and brown minerals interspersed. At the right angle, the stone takes appearance of the sun setting below the dunes.
The Gerudo trade many gemstones, but Lynel's Eye is not available to outsiders. One has to be very well-liked by someone very influential to be gifted one, much less an earring with two large stones in the shape of the Gerudo crest.
This is the third of my 3D models of @anartweirdosworld's earring designs. This one by far took the longest owing to the four attempts at the gemstone material before I was happy enough to call it good enough. It's still not exactly what I envisioned, but I am not so good at material nodes to be able to invent chatoyancy for Blender Eevee. Despite thousands of resources that exist for Blender, this is one area where there's simply nothing.
Edit: after visiting my local gemstone store, I have found Gerudo Lynel's Eye bears a significant resemblance to yellow fluorite, far more than the Tiger's Eye that inspired it.

Rito Jade is said to resemble the Rito's-eye view of Hyrule—the cracked green stone and blue impurities that cement them like the fields and rivers of her great plains.
Four stones, cut and polished, and a golden bezel holding them together, make a beautiful jewelry in the shape of the Rito crest.
The second of four renders taking my initial 3D models of @anartweirdosworld's earrings and giving them materials befitting of their design.
Blender Eevee is not perfectly suited to this material given its procedurally-driven opaque cracks, and I'm not good enough with geometry nodes to add the cracks that way, but I'm pleased enough with the results.

I've never played but how can you not love that little train. This interpretation is inspired by the likes of Ivor the Engine and Furness Railway #20.

For my portfolio, I textured the Master Sword!
I think it’s interesting how everyone pities Zelda and Link for the infinite loop of war and destruction and battle they have to face - but what if the Master Sword? To be locked away and forced to wait time and time again for her master?
Zoran Sapphire is said, in the right light, to shine with the colors of the ocean waves.
Three of them fashioned into the shape of the Zoran crest make a beautiful and one-of-a-kind treasure.
I decided to enhance the models I made of @anartweirdosworld 's earrings as a study of Blender material nodes. I wanted to try my hand at making mystical precious stones. This 'Zoran Sapphire' material is saturated blue when seen face-on but transitions to a light blue with white swirling foam when seen at glancing angles.
I tweaked the design slightly by adding the wire bands and string knots. They give it a slightly handmade appearance and I think they look cool.

Wanted to do a few fun sketches of random pokemon I got from a pokemon wheel, I really love how the Delphox and Gliscor came out personally. :)
pokémon game plots will forever be some of the wildest things to grasp for me. a bunch of environmentalists dressing up like pirates actually almost drown the world. oh yeah you can also dress up your pikachu in silly outfits and pick berries for them. jeff bezos creates a death laser using gods to try and destroy france. oh yeah you can also participate in cutsy pageants w your pokémon and yassify your poodle. meanwhile, in hawaii, aliens sent by your girlfriend’s abusive mom are trying to kill everything and many of them look like lovecraftian horrors. have fun surfing on manta rays though. meanwhile, in meiji era japan, you have to battle The Devil from The Bible TWICE because this loser who’s been Just There the whole game has religious trauma and wants to fistfight god. everything wants to KILL YOU and you’re getting paid minimum wage for groundbreaking scientific research. GOD from THE BIBLE gives you an iphone -11 reality is BREAKING NOW GO CATCH 20 BIDOOF AND THREE LAKE SPIRITS
Goofy little idea
I was reading Prodigal Fame on ao3 and the comically long first act gave me this idea. Inspired by the idea of a frustrated Arceus who just can't. get. his. hero. and a frustrated Dawn who almost fell into a mysterious portal on live TV again.
One Eeby Deeby Problem
Dawn, acclaimed trainer in the Sinnoh region, is under threat by an unknown force. Portals keep appearing around her: eerie things with darkness and lightning. Presumably this being is trying to spirit her away, since it isn't sending anything out, but whoever or whatever is making them is just… laughably bad at trying to capture her. It's been months of portals appearing around her and she hasn't fallen in yet. At first, it's practically a game, something that takes the edge of the dull paperwork. It's not all harmless fun though; as the scientists struggle to make sense of the portals, they are getting bolder and more frequent, appearing during press functions or when she's flying on her Staraptor. Some property has been lost, but thankfully nobody has fallen in yet even after so many attempts. She knows that one day she'll slip and whatever has been doing this for the past year will finally have her, but she's doing her best to live normally in spite of the bizarre game she and the people around her are subjected to.
I'm not going to do anything else with this idea, so if you're inspired then go for it.
I like tumblr AUs, but I can't get invested in them the same way I can get invested in stories.
The way tumblr AUs are commonly presented is as a collection of expository notes and plot points told individually as they are discovered by the author. As much fun as it is to post train-of-thought (I am tempted to, often), I don't think this is the best format to share these ideas if widespread reader investment is the goal.
The AUs that resonate with people will get adopted into the readers' hearts (the aforementioned investment) and the rough edges in presentation and gaps in narrative get smoothed over by the love of the concepts and ideas of the AU. I have only found maybe three Tumblr AUs I have this kind of connection to.
I suspect the difference is a matter of building emotional resonance. I believe the number one way to do that is through characterization. On tumblr, the easiest way has to be comics and doodles, owing to its social media nature. Text is not as great a vessel on social media because creating an emotional response takes a lot more time to read compared to the quick consumption of seeing it in one or two drawings.
I think narrative is the number one way to make people care about your AU. You can set up the reader to waltz right into your emotional booby traps over and over again instead of requiring them to stumble onto the right tumblr post or make a leap to latch on.
I was thinking about this because tumblr served me a large number of OC discourse posts a few days ago.
I think OC and AU are similar, but AUs take an emotional resonance shortcut. AUs lean on the already existing emotional resonance between the reader and characters. If the OCs fail to create emotional resonance, or the AU fails to capitalize on and grow the emotional resonance, people will not invest in the ideas.
This is not to say it is easy to structure your ideas and plot points into a narrative. When I first learned about narrative structure, I found it was exceedingly difficult to craft something I was happy with. I'm still not completely happy with the progression of my story, but I am more pleased with it now than when I started.
In the process of working on and writing my story, I've discovered the joy of making discoveries about my own characters. The little ideas that I come up with in the moment while writing, that I would never think of in a million plot brainstorming sessions, are what really connect me to the characters.
It's easy to think of these little moments and difficult to convey them with the appropriate gravitas outside of a narrative, and that, more than anything, is why I think telling a story is the missing part of most tumblr AUs and OCs, with respect to gaining a following.

I have an idea
Last year I became completely infatuated with someone's alternate universe. I read every single post with the tag in a day. When the feed ran dry, I began to explore the concepts myself, daydreaming scenes to fill in the gaps. How would this character get from post A to post B?
I decided I might contribute to my most favorite alternate universe by writing a fan fiction of the alternate universe. Not every idea jibed so well with the canon of the alternate universe, and over time my own alternate universe—an alternate alternate universe—has emerged.
Although they are different in several large ways, major elements of my alternate universe are instantly recognizable from the original alternate universe. These major elements are why I fell in love with the alternate universe in the first place, after all.
This creates a lot of trepidation. This writing project is the most alive I have felt in a long time. Although I am writing for myself, I would love nothing better than to give back to the community: "you've consumed every piece of media relating to this alternate universe... here's another! It's a little different, but it has the things that I love most about the alternate universe at its heart."
When I publish the first chapter and expose myself to Tumblr and Archive of Our Own, will the creator of the alternate universe like it or hate it? Will they misunderstand my intentions, and believe I am trying to force them out of their own alternate universe? Will they see it as something other than pure love and adoration for their ideas?
I know which outcome I want, and I hope that, when I publish, the creator sees it the way I do.
