i wonder how many of us have felt like this, in an abusive situation ourselves? it really hits home for me. a very accurate portrayal of the wonders everyone who looked at my abuser saw. they couldn’t see me trying to get out, not when the place i was stuck in was paradise. not when i had someone so kind, so devoted to my happiness.
no one could see that their version of my happiness was different from mine.

all of calypso's songs are so lowkey messed up in the first one she's openly ignoring all of odysseus's complaints and concerns: 'i have a wife' 'i'm not your man' 'i'm no pet, i'm a married man' 'i don't belong here, there's something wrong here' in the second one she's saying 'look, i'm sorry i pushed you but like it's not my fault my love was too strong!!" ma'am you forced him to sleep with you for seven years fuck off. she's not really apologizing. she's SAYING that. "i'm not sorry" she SAYS it. she's not sorry for assaulting him. like even if the song's beat is cute, the lyrics make it known how bad this relationship was because odysseus couldnt even defend himself. he was trapped for seven years on an island in the middle of nowhere with a goddess he couldn't fight and a goddess who genuinely did not care about consent or the fact he had a wife or he was clearly distraught
Interaction between Athena and Odysseus
In one of the future sagas I REALLY hope that we get an interaction between Odysseus and Athena that uses the softer Warrior of the mind riff, like the one used between her and Telemchus.And it takes some of the dialogue from the song Warrior of the Mind, but softer, showings the weight that was both on Odysseus and Athena from My Goodbye.
I really hope it happens as we know Mr Jalapeño loves using melodies and lyrics from past sagas to punch us in the gut. *Ahem* Polities being everywhere in every saga 😢

God, I love the stark contrast between how in Warrior of the Mind Odysseus is like, "Goddess and Man, bestest of friends," and Athena brushes him off like "Yeah I dunno about all that". But then in We'll Be Fine when Telemachus is like You're my friend :) she's just like, "You're a good kid" and then to Ares, she's straight up like stop trash talking my friend. Between that and her realizing when she pushed him too far in the fight and regretfully wincing, you can tell she's really grown in how she interacts with mortals.

Hey so you know how in this scene, we've all kind of agreed that Mabel is lying to protect Dipper's feelings about the author and all since what she was listening to was Stan and Ford fighting.
