best friend!ten laughs at another one of your stupid jokes, pitching in his own funny comment that makes you laugh.

it’s been a while since the two of you felt this peaceful. you’re sitting on chairs on his balcony, your feet on his chair and his feet on your chair as you talk with music humming from ten’s phone. ten stretches with a grunt and tries to rest his legs on top of yours. ten’s legs are scratchy because he’s wearing shorts and he hasn’t shaved for at least a week, and you pull your legs away with a laugh and shove. ten grins playfully and places his scratchy legs over yours again.

you roll your eyes, but let him rest his legs on yours. you close your eyes and take a deep breath of the chilly evening air. everything is so perfect. the sun is setting, and the balcony displays a beautiful orange-pink view of the sky; the breeze returns every few moments to run its fingers through your hair; and ten is here, right in front of you.

“what are you thinking about?” ten says, snapping you out of your daze. you open your eyes to see ten taking a deep breath and closing his eyes - in imitation of you. his pretty lips curve into his cheeks as he relaxes into the chair.

“nothing,” you smile. ten’s eyes are closed for only a few moments, but that’s more than enough time for you to stare. you realize he looks perfect, too, even with his unshaved legs, circle glasses, oversized t-shirt, and messy hair.

“you were thinking about me,” ten teases. ten always teases his friends with his pretend narcissistic persona. you’d usually laugh and go along with it, knowing that sometimes it was good to give your best friend an ego boost - he really did need it sometimes. but today, you can’t seem to bring yourself to joke about it.

“i was,” you say. maybe it’s the perfect orange-pink sunset, or the perfect breeze, or the perfect scenario of ten being right in front of you - but something in the air just seems to tell you nothing can go wrong on such a perfect day.

ten smiles nervously. he’s a bit thrown back by your answer. you usually agree, as you did just now, but it’s always followed by a laugh, a giggle, a shove, or a mix of the three. this time, your pretty eyes are dead serious as they meet his. he forces a small laugh that he hopes sounds natural. “i bet,” he grins. he hopes his cheeks aren’t actually red, because they feel like they’re flaming.

“i was,” you repeat, with a shy smile - or maybe it’s his imagination. “were you thinking about me?” as soon as you finish the sentence, you avert your eyes, cheeks suddenly flaming. “shit. forget it.” what a fucking idiot move. why did you say that? you just threw away ten years of friendship for a stupid impulse. “it was a j-“

“yes,” ten blurts. he hopes you can’t feel his pulse through his legs that still rest on yours. his cheeks are blushing a bright red, and his brown eyes dart between your eyes and the balcony floor. “i was, um, thinking about you.”

you sharply inhale in surprise, and your heart threatens to jump out of your chest. neither of you say a word, but the words hang there in the orange-pink evening sky, hang there between your eyes that stare into his pretty brown ones and his eyes that stare into yours. after moments that feel like forever, you laugh and lean forward to entwine your fingers with his, planting a small kiss on the back of his palm.

ten blushes and does the same to your hand, the pretty smile you love lingering on his lips that feel warm on your skin. “i think i love you.”

aww thank you so much! i’m assuming you mean my 13k word one that i’ve been whining about losing haha. i don’t know if you scrolled through my blog already, but tumblr suddenly deleted it and i don’t have any way to recover it. i have broad bullet points on it, though, so i might re-write it later. thanks for asking again! it means so much to me that you remembered it.

"are you okay?” those are the first words that leave best friend!jaehyun’s mouth as soon as he sees you.

your lip quivers. you thought you’d done a decent job of a poker face, even in front of your best friend. “y-yeah, i’m fine.”

his eyes are filled with concern as he sits down on the couch next to you. “you’re definitely not. come on, spill.”

you bite your lip as it quivers even more, threatening to start a flood of tears. “j-jaehyun, you know, nothing’s wrong. i don’t want to burden you on your only day off in two weeks.”

“you’re not burdening me at all,” he says, and overlaps your hand with his. he stares into your eyes, and you can see your reflection from his pretty brown irises. gosh, do you really look that sad? “i want to know if something’s bothering you because i love you.”

that does it. a tear falls from your eyes without your consent - then another and another and another. you’re crying uncontrollably at once, and jaehyun silently pulls you in for a hug.

you cry into his shoulder, and he rubs your back soothingly. you can’t calm down, and muffle your crying with his shoulder. “i-i,” you say, hiccuping and heaving your breaths.

“shh,” jaehyun says, rubbing your back. “it’s okay. you don’t have to talk right now if you’d rather cry.”

he knows you so well. you silently sob into his shoulder, your arms wrapped around his neck. jaehyun pats your back soothingly, murmuring “it’s okay” and “i love you” into your hair for as long as you need him to. he just wants you to feel better whenever you’re ready to.
