31 Day of Angst; Day #2 [Mind Control]
Siren felt like she was being watched all week. Unknown eyes digging into her back at every minute of the day. No matter how fast she turned around or checked in every dark crevasse of the house, she never found anything to be there. She felt like was losing her mind. No matter what she did, she didn't feel safe. Nor did she feel like anyone around her was safe. Was it some kind of Vampiric warning she never experienced before? Or just her paranoia of her past catching up to her? It wasn't long before the unease got to her mind. The confident façade she lived off of slowly slipped away. Siren began jumping at any unknown sound, immediately going on the offensive. Multiple persons in the house asked her daily if she was alright to which, of course, she would tell them she was fine. She eventually kept to herself in her room, only coming out when the other vampire came to visit.
Hearing a car pull up to the house, Siren grabbed her purse and quickly made her way out to greet who she thought would be Dimitri. To her surprise, the silver haired vampire saw a blacked out Charger in the driveway. Clutching her purse in an attempt to feel where her knife was inside, she took a step back. Soon, three rather large bodies exited the vehicle. They wore all black outfits and shades hiding their eyes. Siren barred her teeth to implement some intimidation, but the large of the three only chuckled lowly at her. "Nice try, Wu. You don't scare us." He smirked at her. Siren flinched at the use of her last name. "How do you know that name? Who the hell are you?" Suddenly a fourth person emerged from the Car. He radiated danger in every sense. He calmly walked up to the freighted Siren, towering over her easily. He removed her glasses, revealing dark red eyes, his wicked grin flashing huge fangs. Siren's eyes widened as she tumbled backwards. "Z-Zhang Wei? I-" "That's Lord Wei to you, runt." Zhang interrupted her. "We've missed you, little one. You still owe on your father's debts." Zhang motioned to the grunts behind him. The three laughed as they advanced towards Siren with excellent speed. in a blink, she was grabbed by the arms and lifted up to her feet. One of them stood behind her, holding her head tightly by the hair as she struggled to break free. the harder she fought, the tighter they dug their nails into her cold skin. Tears formed at her eyes as she pleaded with them.
"Let me go! Let me go, please!"
Zhang mockingly pouted at her. "Oh, I'm sorry, little one. Debts must be paid. I don't give free services. You're coming back with us. Your fellow slaves need something to take the pressure off them for a while." He gave her a smirk. Siren's eyes widened as the tears came faster, rolling down her cheeks. She put the last of her energy into fighting them.
"NO! No, I'm not going back! You can't make m-" Her words were cut off as she slumped into the Grunts arms. Zhang clicked his tongue at her as his hand dropped from her forehead. He nodded to her associates, they letting go of her cautiously. Siren's eyes were void of life as she stood in front of them. Face expressionless while the tears dried in her eyes. Zhang let out a final laugh. "That's a good little girl. Now, get in the car. We have a long flight ahead." He pointed at the car. Siren nodded, her body almost robotic as she made her way to the car, getting in the backseat. Zhang brushed his hand off on his suit. "Dumbasses think they're above me. To bad I own their minds."
31 Days of Angst: Day #3 [Jealousy]
Kyungah didn't have good role models for healthy relationships growing up. Watching her Father and Mother fight one another week after week, her mother always running back to the demon and her father falling into constant depressions. The constant watch of her parents going back and forth made her swear off relationships in her adult life. A self made promise she had kept so far. Even though she had some interest in a certain person, she couldn't allow herself to commit fully.
And it ate at her. The lonely nights by herself, the 20th something holidays she had no one to share with. She never even had a kiss! She kept her disdain of the life she chosen to herself as she joined her siblings on a night out. And, of course, those who had them brought their partners. Kyungah stabbed at the food on her plate while she watched her siblings laugh and flirt with their loves. Her eye twitched periodically in response to the overwhelming display of attraction. Even her murderous half brother had a sweet, polite little girlfriend. One she couldn't understand why someone would want him but not her.
Kyungah excused herself to the bathroom, but no one really noticed. Once inside the single stall, she locked the door and slid down to the floor in the tears she had held all night. She was angry with herself for not having such things but also angry with the longing building up inside. Kyungah just wanted someone to love her. But she was sure such a thing didn't exist for her.
31 Day of Angst: Day #5 [Curse]
Minyoung doesn't remember how she died. Nor really how it felt. One moment her heart was pumping blood through her veins, the next she was floating in an inky blackness. Minyoung glanced around frantically trying to see if she could make out where she was. All she saw was nothing for miles. Or inches. She couldn't tell how big the space was; it seemed to either go on for infinity or just enough around her that she couldn't reach the edges with her hands. Minyoung felt herself staring to panic.
What was happening?
A million questions ran through her head while a pinhole of light opened below her. She didn't notice it until a voice spoke to her "Welcome to your new role, my child." Minyoung looked around for the disembodied voice but found herself still alone. It was then that she looked down and saw the small pin of light grow larger, coming for her. She screamed and tried to kick it away but was unsuccessful. she floated through the opening, being blinded by the bright, white light. That was months ago. Minyoung sat outside her apartment, looking around the area and taking in her neighbors that walked unknowing amongst themselves. She saw numbers over their head. Some high, some low. She learned after a few weeks of being back on the living plane that it was the countdown until she was to visit them. She had been chosen to be Death itself. Min didn't understand why it was her or why such a role was needed. Apparently, humans need to be told when their time alive was over. She looked down at her gloved hands. Carefully taking one off, she reached through the bars on her porch steps and lightly touched a flower growing taller than the rest. From her touch, the flower quickly shriveled up before crumbling up and becoming dust in the grass. Min let out a sad sigh, feeling tears forming at the corners on her eyes. Everything she touched died.
31 Days of Angst; Day #5 [Unrequited Love]
Cedric hummed to himself as he walked up to his half-sister's practice building. She had forgotten her lunch and Ced was the only person to answer her text; the other siblings being busy with other things. He jumped to the job, regardless. It had been years since he'd seen her. And this was his first chance since returning. Teleporting past security, he searched for Kyungah's group, peaking in through the windows to the dance rooms until he finally found her.
He forgot about the food bag in his hand, catching himself frozen in place. Jiyeon was at the head of the group, the girls practicing to their father's old song. Her back was to him but he was sure she looked just a beautiful as any other day. He couldn't help himself but smile. She was alive and she looked so happy doing what she could do best. Cedric leaned against the window, happily sighing as he watched them finish the song. Out of breath, Kyungah pushed her sweaty hair from her face and glanced to the window. Seeing her youngest brother lovestruck in the glass. She rolled her eyes, excusing herself from the girls, she made her way over to open the door for him. Cedric quickly went inside, hastily dropping the lunch bag in his sister's hands. Not even looking at her as his line of vision was stuck on the beauty on the other side of the room. Jiyeon was sweaty, breathing heavy like she had put her whole soul into hitting every move with perfect precision. Jiyeon looked up through her eyelashes at the tall boy that , once in her line of sight, started stuttering over his words. Cedric tried to calm himself to speak clearly. "Uh, Hi, Jiyeon. You danced really well there. You've gotten better-" "Oh, uh, thanks. And you are?" "Cedric- I'm Kyu's little brother." Jiyeon looked him up and down, taking in his awkward presence. Her and Kyungah made eye contact, Kyungah mouthing I'm sorry to her friend. Jiyeon bit her lip and looked back at the young demon, who was wiping his sweaty hands on his pants. "Are you... The demon one..?" "O-only half! But, uh, yeah. My father is a demon-" "Yeah I don't think you should be here. Thanks for dropping off Kyu's lunch for her. I dont really think your kind should hang out here-" "B-but I-" His attempted protest was cut short by Kyu grabbing his hand and pulling him towards the door. Once out of the room, Kyu turned to her brother.
"Dude. I don't know why you think this Jiyeon would be any different than the real one. You know she's Christian and you freak her out." "I just... I'm just gonna head home, then. Sorry, Enjoy your lunch.." He looked down as he disappeared.
31 Days of Angst; #7 [Forgotten]
Amasa's greatest fear is being forgotten. To truly not have any one by him, to give him fuel to keep bothering going on everyday. He had found that reason when he met Ash and her patched family. AJ's as well. Having a real family; children, nephews, nieces, a brother that puts up with him and doesn't degrade him every other minute. He had a sense of belonging for once. And he never thought he would lose it.
Until he came back to AJ's after a night out to clear his head from the week's bringing's. Once inside, he was confused when AJ looked up at him, seemingly scared. She had asked who he was and why she was in her house. Amasa was confused. He tried to explain that he lived there until his brother came up behind AJ and threatened him to leave. Ama awkwardly chuckled, thinking it was some prank. But the fear in AJ's eyes the the intimidation radiating off his brother, he quickly decided to just leave. He teleported to his Wife's house and attempted to enter but was stopped by Dimitri and Niki. He tried to explain again who he was and that he just wanted to see his kids. When they responded they had no idea who he was talking about, he felt his heart shatter. Tears started to form in his eyes as he began to plead to see Ash. That he knew she would remember. But the two boys weren't letting him in. He tried to push past them, screaming for her and his two children. As a last resort, he used his power to teleport himself inside Ash's room. He looked around for her and found her staring at him with the same fear from the first time they had met. Amasa felt his entire world shatter into a million pieces as he fell to his knees, screaming into his hands.
31 Days of Angst; #8 [Terminal Illness]
Eunmi hadn't slept or eaten properly in about a week. It was normal for Idols and trainees to have such lifestyles; sacrificing their health for a chance in the spotlight. Her boyfriend had expressed some concern as dark circles formed under her eyes and she rapidly lost weight, her once skin tight clothes becoming baggy on her smaller frame. Eunmi brushed him off and lied, promising she would eat and get full rest that night.
As she shuffled her way out of her room the next morning, haven been up all night redoing some parts of the choreo she never felt like she had right, the lack of self care caught up to her. With one wobbled step, she blacked out on the floor. She woke up to the sound of machine beeps and bright white lights in her face. Her arms were covered in IVs attempting to replenish nutrients to her body. Alastar had come home and noticed his housemate passed out cold. After calling for AJ, he took Eunmi to the hospital to receive care. Eunmi looked around the room with blurry vision, her body not catching up with her brain. As things started to come into focus, she noticed a nurse standing in the corner, taking down vitals and doing a routine check of her. Eunmi weakly asked what happened. The nurse responding plainly that she was lucky she wasn't dead, telling her about Alastar bringing her in and how they found her. Eunmi felt a jab to her heart, realizing she almost killed herself but simply not sleeping. The Doctor came in a few moments later, holding a clipboard with an uneasy expression. He introduced himself before asking Eunmi if she had any family with heart problems. Heart problems? Not to her knowledge. But who knows what's on her mother's side of things. The doctor took a few breaths to find the best way to tell her. ~~~~~~~~~~ Eunmi stared at the hospital lunch in front of her. Unable to eat, even after all that happened. Her eyes already stung from sobbing all day but the more she got inside her head, the more new tears started to form. Cancer. In her Heart. Likely spurred on by not taking care of herself.
31 Days of Angst; Day #9 [Neglect]
Like most girls taking the awful deal and selling their souls to save themselves, Kana had done the same. Years have passed as she kept her soul wrapped in a green glowing gem around her neck, purifying the darkness of the world from it she carried out her end of the deal. Kana figured this life was better than her old, constantly fighting to stay somewhat human. Her father dealt with his depression in one of the worst ways possible. The small house Kana grew up in constantly smelled of stale alcohol; cans spewed about the space, some dating back months. Kana would spend her time tiptoeing around her parents afraid that one wrong move would set them off. Since she was the oldest child she was the designated punching bag for her parents' blight. Bruises frequently dotted her small body. Kana used to think that it was okay she be at the end of the stick so her baby sister didn't have to feel a thing.
While her father ate everything in the house when her mother was at work, Kana searched the trash for scraps. Kana would outgrow her clothes but was still forced to wear them or nothing at all. Any word out of her mouth was quickly met with an object being thrown at her head or being struck silent. Kana used to spend her nights awake, tears in her eyes as she would wonder why God put her in this spot. Why she was stuck with no wait out. Why she couldn't just die already.
31 Days of Angst; Day #10 [Ghost]
Minhyuk liked to spend his days in the darkness of his room only illuminated by the screen of his computer. Headphones adorned blasting music into his ears, fingers pressing keys faster than his monitor could keep up. This was his sanctuary in the craziness of the world around him. Every so often his mother or siblings would drop in to tell him dinner was ready or that his girlfriend was on her way in. On certain days, usually once a week, he would be dragged out of his room to be involved in "Family time" which was either a movie or a game night. Other than that, he was a hermit and happy about it. So it didn't click in his mind that he had gone a few days without eating, really getting tired or a family member popping their heads into his room. It wasn't until he checked his messages from Jaeyeong and saw nothing. She didn't usually ignore him or go a day without a good morning text. When he tried to send one himself, the message wouldn't go through. Confused that his phone wasn't working properly, he made his way out of his room. Looking around for someone, his eyes fell onto his mom walking past his room. He tried to wave to her but she seemed to ignore him. He called out; ignored again. He was getting frustrated that his mom would ignore him, so he tried to catch her. Minhyuk froze when his hand ghosted right through her shoulder. He stared at his hands and realized he could see through them. Panic started to set in as other members of the house walked straight through him in the hallway.
31 Days of Angst; Day #11 (Forbidden Love]
In Ingrid's line of work, there was no place for attachments or relationships. Her usual nights consisted of being used for money and never seeing the same man twice. 31 Days of Angst; Day #12 [Forced Apart]
Charlie stared at the older demon in front of him. His mouth agape as his mind tried to comprehend what he was just told. Asking the other to repeat himself for clarity. Surely he misheard him. The confirmation of Amasa's words crashed over Charlie like a wave of heartbreak.
He had to break up with Nasya?
Charlie desperately tried to argue with his girlfriend's father, pleading that he was good enough for her. Sure he was a demon and much younger than Amasa was okay with, but that shouldn't matter. Amasa held his ground, adamant that he hadn't warmed up to the idea of his only daughter being involved with someone from his own background. When Charlie found tears falling down his face, he told Amasa that he couldn't- wouldn't, do it. But when Amasa countered that he would do it for him, it seemed to shatter his heart more. He didn't know what was worse: Him breaking up with her himself or letting her father tell him he left. Who knows what Amasa would tell her. At least if he did it, he could get one more hug. One more kiss. Maybe even one more night together. With his blue eyes looking more red from his tears, Charlie slowly walked to Nasi's room to deal the news personally.
31 Days of Angst; Day #13 [Revenge]
Melanie didn't want to say anything to her older brother knowing how he was and how he would most likely handle the situation. Though, it would've been better to tell him rather than Samuel finding the only sibling he cared about sobbing on the couch. He had approached her and demanded to know what happened. When nothing but a muffled "nothing" came from her, he kneeled down and asked again, his tone becoming stern.
Samuel didn't need to have her repeat again. He simply nodded and disappeared, the floor singed from the flames where he had stood. Sam appeared in Hell, angrily pushing pass other demons as he forced his way to the one his sister described. His human features fading with each step, transforming himself into his full demon form. Red scales covered his skin, his eyes shifting into that of a snakes and a long spiked tail swishing angrily behind him. Sam finds his target laughing with a group of others. Who, upon seeing the furious Samuel charging towards them, scattered. Before he had the chance to get away, Samuel snatched him by the throat and slammed the demon into a nearby wall. Samuel dug his razor sharp claws into his neck. Smirking as the lesser demon struggled against him.
Samuel asked him if he thought it was funny to assault his sister, to which the demon weakly laughed responding that Melanie made it easy to be used in such a way. With that, Samuel shoved his other clawed hand into his chest, twisting and ripping out whatever he could get his hand on. Sam threw him onto the ground, pouncing on top of him and ripped the demon apart. Enjoying the feel of its blood splattering over his face and body.
31 Days of Angst; Day #14 [Hear Our Prayer]
Mastema sat in silence surrounded by the vast empty field she had found to be her meditation spot. No being for miles, no sounds to cloud her mind; just her and her thoughts. Mastema hated being on the human plane. She longed to return to her spot up in heaven with her brothers and sisters. She knew in the farthest crevasse of her mind that they had to have long forgotten about her or perhaps remembered her with spite for her actions. Even with her mind shattered from years of constantly losing pieces, Mastema still knew that what she did was wrong by every means. Tricked or not, taking the life of an innocent human should've resulted in her death. But instead, she was left to roam the living plane with her tattered wings dyed in their blood, unable to return back to where she was born. Mastema had spent centuries believing that perhaps cleansing the world of sinners would earn her place back in the land above. Today she realized that she might have been wrong. That creating a darker hue on her wings and staining her hands was never going to work. Mastema put her hands together and with a breath, asked her Mother to forgive her. To allow her back in her proper place. Or, to allow her life to end finally.
the child is gone for a couple hours so I have time to catch up on writing. This is a flood warning
31 Days of Angst; Day #15 [Helplessness]
She had gone too far this time. What was supposed to be a routine outing for her quickly turned deadly. Gwen had done her usual; getting a helpless human to take her on a date and letting her bloodlust end her dates life before returning home. But this time, she found herself on the other end. Her date for the night had not been human, but a rouge angle looking to do that same as her. Gwen laid in a puddle of red, her hand becoming stained in her own blood as she tried to cover the deep wound. The Angel had given her nothing more than a smirk as he walked away. Leaving Gwen to weakly call for her father that never came. Tears filled her eyes as she slowly blacked out
31 Days of Angst; Day #16 [Insecurity]
It was strange to Val, being back. One moment she held her breath as Amasa swung the sword at her neck and the next she was here, years later, talking with him like nothing had happened. The world had changed so much since she was last alive. Humans' and demons' ability to coexist has been the highlight of her reanimation. Yet, she finds herself upset for the same reason. Her childhood friend had found himself a human. The friend she tutored and held on his bad days. The one that gave her a humanized name. He had forgotten about her and laid with a human in the striking image of herself. Val wonders to herself if she was ever actually good enough for him if a human could bring him more happiness than she did. She spends her days watching them from afar, waiting for her chance to rekindle what used to be there. Or if there even was anything there in the first place. Val never thought a simple human could make her feel inferior.
31 Days of Angst; Day #17 [Personal Failure]
Alastar held himself in high regard. He was the oldest of the triplets, the token child when it came to smarts, the one that aspired to have the answer to everything and be the best at everything. His younger siblings weren't the hardest to beat when it came to just about anything. He could beat Cedric in any intelligence-based test. He could overpower his sister during her lust rages. Alastar aimed to please his father in every way possible; except ownership of power.
Every demon was born in an innate power unique to them. While immaculate knowledge could be his power, it wasn't one that demons often, or ever, got. Most times it was powers that helped with killing or an ability to change the world around them. His uncle had an affinity for colors, his older sister that of time, his youngest sister one that could corrupt humans around her. But Alastar was left with none. Even his nitwit brother had an affinity with foods. Alastar felt like he had failed his demonhood,
31 Days of Angst; Day #18 [Grievous Injury]
The night had gone well for the most part. Erik stalked around the land of the house in his wolf form to make sure nothing was to come of harm to his new family. While his love slept peacefully in his bed, he was on high alert for anything. The calmest of the night was cut short by the sound of a deep growl coming from the tree line. With his fur standing on end to make himself look bigger than he already was, Erik walked slowly towards the sound. He froze when the opposing creature strode its massive body from the trees. Erik's ear flattened, he knew he wouldn't win in this fight. The beast seemingly smirked at him before lunging forward.
The two wolves fought each other, both with the intention to kill the other. The beast dug its sharp claws into Erik, doing its best to rip him to shreds. Erik let out a wail as the beast bit down on his neck. The sound of his throat shattering ringing in his ears. Erik slumped to the ground, blood covering the ground around him. The beast seemed satisfied with its work and once he was sure Erik wasn't getting back up, it sauntered away. Erik breathed heavily, his body unable to move. He feared he would die there, that protecting his new family had finally cost him his life.
31 Days of Angst; Day #19 [Sacrifice]
Annie Rose was the meek twin, the one that always needed saving. The reason that her sister did what she did every night, making sure that Annie had food and shelter. It constantly ate at her that she could never do anything to return the favor. Every attempt to show that she could hold her own or be the one in front for once, Ingrid shot down and threw herself ahead. The chance for Annie to show her sister that she wasn't the frail little girl that cried in the dark finally arrived. Ingrid found herself being threatened by what was supposed to be a client of the night. He had convinced Ingrid that he was any threat, but that turned out to be a lie as he now had her on the floor with a gun pointed down at her. He ranted about how he hated such people in that line of work and was going to cleanse the streets of her. Annie, haven waked from the sounds of her sister's struggles, ran to her side. She froze seeing the weapon pointed at her twin. Ingrid yelled at her to run away but Annie didn't listen to her sister's pleads. As the gunman pulled the trigger, Annie threw herself in front of her sister; the bullet hitting her straight in the chest. The man quickly ran out of the house, his Godly plan failed. Annie smiled up at Ingrid, tears steaming down both their faces. Even with the immense pain radiating through her body, Annie was happy to have finally returned the favor after all these years.
31 Days of Angst; Day #20 [Survivor's Guilt]
The days were blending together as Winter attempted to survive in the hellish landscape that had devastated the world. There seemed to be no end to the virus or any cure in sight. Most of the world had succumbed to either turning with the infection, taking their deaths in their own hands, or being in Winter's shoes; forced to continue on. She had no idea why it was her that survived all this time. Was it just her training that allowed her to make smart choices? Was she destined to fix the world? Or is it that her particular death was in the near future, farther than she could see? The burden of being the only one of her sector that had the world's luck laid heavy on her heart. While she sometimes enjoyed her days with Zoey and could forget that the world was in shambles even when she slept next to a zombie, it never sat right with her. She should've died along with her comrades. There was no reason it should be her alive and not the others. Days that she doesn't run the idea of taking the cowards way out come by solemnly. Winter can never bring herself do such a thing, however. At least, not in her current state of mind.
