Why on earth are people agreeing ont his?
This is sick!
No matter what you think about the whole trans/character/actor thing YOU DON’T HOPE SOMEONE GETS HIT BY A FUCKING CAR!
That is complete and utterly sick! I can understand that you wish that to someone who rapes children or tortures animals but not a actor who does nothing but his job: playing a role he was cast for.
People don’t have problems when charcters get cast in different skin colors, even though that is as much part of who you are as your gender is, but nobody is complaing about that (which is another point but not for here). Actually they want that to happen.
So why not let a male actor play a trans woman. You get an acting job because you are the best to play this role. Perhaps they cast women but they did not play the role well enough or not the way the director wanted it for the story. You have to wait for the result on this. Maybe there were transwoman cast for the role but they didn’t act well enought.
Or maybe, just maybe there weren’t any woman trans or not cast for the movie. But that is not up to the actor. So there is no reason to hate on him. He only does his job. This is just like the Cerei-hate Lena Headey gets for playing a role really amazing.
Acting does not mean you are that person. Acting means you play that person so well that the audience belives you are that person.
So if a man can pull it off and play a trans woman he does his job well. And nothing more.
And it is no reason to boycott a film. I mean you can do that if a movie is bad or mistreated animals but not because of an actor doing his job. If he plays the role bad you can boycott the movie. If the writing is bad you can boycott the movie. If the movie would actually suggest that trans woman are man in disguise by the WRITING (not to be mistaken by acting!) then you can boycott it. But not because you don’t like a casting choice.
There is usually a thinking behind who you want to cast for a role. And you have in mind who can pull the role of at best. And therefore this decision was made. After seeing the movie you can tell if it was a good choice or not, but not before.
I personally think that it is open for male, female and trans actors to play such a role. Depeding about the transitioning point you might choose one or another. Also if you have trans actors auditioning that does not automatically guarantee this role. If they act the part they have the role.
BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER ACTORS!
The one who the casting team chooses to be best for the role will act it. Not whoever you want it to be. Yes they are people too and make mistakes BUT usually the best actor gets chosen. And actor is a profession. It’s gender neutral. And the best actor should get the role. Not the best trans actor, not the best cis actor or whatever, just the best actor.
By saying you have to give a trans actor the job you are doing positiv discrimmination. You give then something without them deserving it, because they are a minority. And that is discrimination and nothing else. It has a negative effect to cis gender people. But trans people are just normal people like we all are and therefore have to act best to get the role not just be transgender.
And maybe right that trans woman might have a problem playing the role because they are to involved and maybe that might be why a trans woman would play the role even better but we don’t know that. We only know they cast an actor for a role and we will have to say how that ends up.
Maybe the movie will be terrible, maybe it will be amazing, most likely it will be something inbetween. But that is up to much more than the choice of actor but also the writers and the director as well.
And because a male actor plays a trans woman he does not make the role automatically a negative stigma. You are putting that on him. At the beginning of transitioning the body of a trans woman is male. Which makes a man an acceptable choice as an actor for it.
We are okay of black actors playing originally white roles. Why are you not okay with a man playing a trans woman? Our skin color is part of us as our gender is. Yes an ideal choice for fans is always do it like the original. so let white people play white roles and let black people play black roles and let trans woman play trans woman, but we are progressing so far that we know that yes it is part of our character. But we are not only defined by something like skin color or gender. And that is a good thing. You should be more than just your gender.
And we should be okay with a man playing a trans woman. We should be okay with a trans woman playing a trans woman. We whoud be okay with a woman playing a trans woman. We should be okay with whoever plays the role well plays a trans woman.
Because that is the point of a good movie: an actor who can play the role. And the gender of that actor is not important for that. We are all people no matter our gender and the best actor should get the role. Not “the best gender“. Because threre is no best gender. There are genders but they are not important for you acting skills.
And for fuck’s sake no decent human being whishes an actor to be hit by a car because they do not like that the actor was cast for a role.
