Musings on the next Avatar
Assuming Korra lives a long happy life, the next Avatar will be born into their world’s equivalent of at least the late 20th century.
I imagine them being an Earth-bender born into Republic City during a time of economic turmoil, largely brought on because of the loss of their previous Avatar, leading to an ‘80s inspired cyberpunk 1984-esc dystopian police state. They were orphaned during this time, parents killed in a food riot, and grew up on the streets, eventually joining and then leading their own street gang. This Avatar is something between Robin Hood and Disney’s Aladdin. Robbing from the rich because we gotta steal to eat.
This Avatar, like Korra before them, learned young what they are when they began Air-bending, but choosing to hide this discovery feeling that people will want to control them; to tell them what to do. This Avatar is very intent on controlling their own destiny; on not loosing control. So they hide from both the authorities and the White Lotus.
I specifically want them to have figured out Air-bending, the opposite of their home element Earth, and have extreme difficulty with the other elements because this Avatar has managed to maintain their own precarious balance by justifying extremes. They steal, justifying it because it’s only to survive, but they also often steal from those who are themselves not very well off, because sometimes they “have to”. Always finding justifications for every questionable action they take in the name of “survival”.
This Avatars journey is to discover for themselves how far is too far, and if they can really go their entire life ignoring the voice in their dreams telling them they have a duty to fulfill.

The theme for this post is “Gormiti”, a French animated series about two brothers (Toby & Nick) with their two friends (Lucas & Jessica) who protect the dimension of Gorm from evil forces. They live a double life as normal kids and the Lords of Nature.
-On each mosaic, the left images are the main characters as normal kids, and the right images are their Gormiti forms.
