Ao3 Community - Tumblr Posts
One of the Fourth Wing fanfic authors I'm reading (chapter 16 Heart of a Rider by Lalapie (I don't know their tumblr if they have one)) unexpectedly dedicated the Xaden POV of their latest chapter to me and another commenter for our thoughtful comments and I'm melting??

It was so unexpected I'm just. When I write comments my goal is to make the author happy and show them that there's someone who is happy they're sharing what they've written. Getting a reply to a comment I made always makes me beam, I feel like a fan that a celebrity smiled at at an event.
But they put me in their chapter opening notes and dedicated part of the chapter to me because they've liked my comments so much, and I saw it before 8am to start my Monday

Are you frustrated you can't leave second kudos on AO3? or third kudos? or whatever-who's-counting kudos?
Well, have I got the html for you!
Plop any of these in a comment (by copy&pasting the code) to make an author's day and show your appreciation!
Second kudos: <img src="https://i.ibb.co/tHMjbb6/second-kudos.png" alt="second kudos">
Third kudos: <img src="https://i.ibb.co/52bggQH/third-kudos.png" alt="third kudos">
nth kudos: <img src="https://i.ibb.co/6y7qGtC/nth-kudos.png" alt="nth kudos">
yet another kudos: <img src="https://i.ibb.co/wKtcj0s/yet-another-kudos.png" alt="yet another kudos">

It will look something like this (and will be transparent with white outline on dark backgrounds):

Feel free to spread and use these as much as you like! (and if you have ideas for other variations, let me know ✌️)
AO3 Comments are SO SO SOOOOOOO important because you can only leave Kudos ONCE. You add to the hit count ONCE (every 24 hours).
So whenever someone updates their fic, the ONLY way an author knows who their regular readers are is if they comment on each chapter. And we WANT to know who's still reading.
Believe it or not, some of us think about the name that pops up constantly in the comments and go "omg I can't wait to see what they think of THIS SPECIFIC SCENE cuz I KNOW they'll say something about it!!!"

This warrants a destiel meme guys I am panicking
I don't know who needs to hear this
But if you go into the comments section on AO3
And type

Then replace image url (keep the " marks) with the url of a picture
You can leave fan art in the comments of a fic
There always comes a time in life (AO3 is down) where you have to return to your origins (FFnet and if I'm very desperate... Wattpad)
I do this. I do this frequently. I have a separate folder in my emails so I can look at the comments and kudos I've received when I'm down.
God bless those people honestly, I think there've been times they've actually saved my life.
Not sure about anyone else but I re-read all my favourite AO3 comments when I’ve had a rough day so if you’ve ever taken the time to write a deep, funny, or just kind comment, thank-you.
Guess it's time to bring this trend back.

Reblog if reading someone else’s fanfiction has helped you get through a hard day
happy fanfic writer appreciation day to EVERYONE who has ever posted a fic, tried to write a fic, wanted to write a fic but didn’t think your writing was “good enough” to be shared (between you and me, it is!!!) because ALL of you make this fandom better with your creativity and beautiful words, whether you know it or not. thank you!!!!!!!!!! ❣️❣️❣️
An Ao3 author seconding the last comment. Sometimes authors will write more when they know their story was loved. Sometimes they won't but they'll feel validated all the same. Share your love with people while they are still alive to receive it. Don't treat your appreciation like it's a dirty secret you couldn't possibly share with the source.
me, quietly whispering to the ao3 page of an author who doesn’t even know I exist: I am obsessed with you
It's so weird writing fanfiction now.
Comments are like unicorns. So rare.
It's a bit disheartening since you can't even get feedback and I don't know if I did okay or not. And I know I got clicks, too since I do get kudos at the very least. But comments hit different, because they can uplift an author the same way a fic lets a reader's imagination soar.
•Normalize Fanart for Fanfics Again You Fools•
It's not cringe anymore (it SHOULDN'T be cringe anymore), just do it. You're doing something you enjoy so who cares what anybody else says. So spread the words my fellow internet brethren.
Spread the Word :)
The 1:10 ratio sounds terrible for multi chapter fics... Subscribers can't leave more kudos, but they'll increase the hits at every update
Tags and summaries ftw!
Another AO3 thing I’m curious about, how do yall decide if something is good enough to read? Usually I follow a rule of 1 kudos for every 10 hits. One because it’s easy math and two it’s yet to fail me. Thoughts? Do you just go for it and pray it’s good?
