A number of years back, the Canadian government initiated a decades-long scare-'em-straight program intended to keep kids away from drugs and violence.
For the program, random kids would be selected to act out fantastical scenarios showing how bad situations might come about, how they could be avoided, and what the consequences might be. As you could guess, the program was a huge success in peaceful Canada. It was also almost self-funding, as they would often film the more successful experiments and sell them to American audiences. The 'Are You Afraid of the Dark' and 'Goosebumps' projects are still watched today.
