An Adventure Time screenshot of infant Neddy, still residing in the mother gum colony with his goopy pink siblings.
An Adventure Time screenshot of a wormy baby Neddy sucking on the roots of his favorite tree.
An Adventure Time screenshot of child Neddy, peacefully sucking his tree roots with his little feet sticking out in front of him.
An Adventure Time screenshot of adult Neddy, a big gummy dragon, sucking on his tree roots and rubbing his fingers against them.

Happy autism acceptance month! One of my favorite autistic characters is Neddy Bubblegum from Adventure Time! He is Princess Bubblegum’s twin brother. He is a really good goopy guy and I wish we could have seen more of him in the series!

I’m gonna make more autism acceptance month posts because I have a lot of autistic characters that I love. Happy autism acceptance month! This is Link from the Legend of Zelda video game franchise. He is a very dedicated knight who has lived lots of lives protecting his kingdom. Here are some of his many incarnations! When I die, you will find my Link Is Autistic headcanon in my cold dead hands. Happy autism month with Link!

Another day, another autistic icon! Happy autism acceptance month with SpongeBob SquarePants! Did you know that sponges are animals? They belong to their own animal phylum called Porifera. They have no tissues or organs, only cells, and they have no digestive system either— their bodies are naturally shaped to funnel in microorganisms to eat. Real life sponges are sessile, which means that they don’t move around, so SpongeBob is definitely unique in that regard. But I guess he’s unique in many other regards too, he is definitely a one-of-a-kind sponge : )

A vibrant Friendship is Magic screenshot of Pinkie and Maud Pie at a park. Pinkie is in an excited pose with her hoof in the air and Maud is sitting down on a picnic blanket looking forward.
A Friendship is Magic screenshot of Pinkie Pie grinning and holding out her hooves to gesture to Maud, who has a neutral expression on her face. They are at the rock farm.
A Friendship is Magic screenshot of Pinkie Pie and Maud on a train. Pinkie looks sad and is looking away and Maud is holding her and looking at her.
A Friendship is Magic gif of Pinkie Pie and Maud in Applejack’s kitchen. Pinkie Pie is shaking and bouncing with excitement while Maud is totally still.

Here are some more autistic pals! This is Pinkie and Maud Pie, two sisters from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic! As you can see, they are as different as night and day, but they love each other dearly and they are each other’s biggest cheerleaders. Autism is a genetic condition, so it runs in families. Lots of autistic people also have a sibling with autism! But that doesn’t mean that their traits and symptoms will be the same— two autistic siblings may be on totally different areas of the autism spectrum, and like any other siblings, may have completely different personalities too!

Mordecai’s character profile card on the Lackadaisy website. The artwork is inspired by the cover of a detective novel. Mordecai is depicted in a trenchcoat, walking through a dark alleyway, adjusting his hat with one hand and holding a gun in the other.
A screenshot of Mordecai in the animated pilot, sitting in darkness in the backseat of a car. His narrow eyes are a stark bright green.
A Lackadaisy panel of Zulie touching Mordecai’s shoulder and saying, “Stay a little longer. We have something for you.” At the same time, Mordecai whips around with a startled expression and says, “Miss, please don’t touch-”
A panel of Mordecai standing with two flappers with a weirded-out expression on his face. Their conversation reads:
Woman: What? She’s not good enough for you? You can’t be polite about it?
Mordecai: Excuse me?
Woman: She asked you to dance, and you didn’t even-
Mordecai: She didn’t ask me to dance, she asked me what it looked like.
Woman: What? What’s the matter with you?
The next panel has Mordecai looking flabbergasted.
A Lackadaisy panel of Asa Sweet and Mordecai at the Maribel hotel. Mordecai (in a very darling suit, might I add) stands with his hands clasped neatly behind his back and tells Asa, “Since we’re on the topic of my corhorts, I wanted to discuss our agenda. I prefer knowing in advance what’s next.”

May I present Mordecai Heller, the coolest cat in St. Louis! Most of the time. Whenever anyone looks past his frigid, ruthless reputation as St. Louis’s deadliest gunman, Mordecai does not know what to do with himself. Listen, he’s a master at being intimidating, and he is extremely professional and dedicated to the job. But he’s not good with people in any casual environment, and he is very particular about anything on his body and everything around him, and he will leave the room if someone is eating because he can hear them chewing and he can hear their teeth scraping against their fork and he can hear them swallowing and he is now going to claw his own face off. So… in that case… happy autism acceptance month. With Mordecai. Uh, good day.

April is “Autism Awareness Month”, so here are a few reminders for you to keep in mind:

Autism Speaks is a hate group.

The reasoning behind “Light It Up Blue” (that there are more autistic boys than girls) stems from a tendency in doctors to base their autism diagnoses on stereotypes and sometimes refuse to diagnose girls.

Most autistic people don’t want a “cure” for autism and don’t support Autism Speaks.

Autism Speaks has given abusive/ableist parents legitimacy by portraying autism as a terrifying, life-ruining affliction and sympathising with parents who have contemplated killing their children, or actually killed them.

The views of autistic people are more important in this topic than the views of our allistic family members and peers.

Autism is not a disease.

Very little (about 4%) of Autism Speaks’ proceeds go toward supporting autistic people. More of it goes toward catering.

Autism is not a tragedy.

What autistic people need is acceptance, not awareness.

Okay, so now that April Fool's Day is over, here's what I typed yesterday. This is the exact same stuff, just in English instead of wingdings (and I left out the first bit since it was just a ramble about the whole wingdings gag).

Let's band together and take them down. Expose them on a wide scale for what they really are, and spread autism acceptance while we're at it.

Let the fiery pits of hell swallow them whole.

Ok Um. I Wanted To Do Something For Autism Month (i Might Do Something Else Other Than This Who Knows)

ok um. I wanted to do something for autism month (i might do something else other than this who knows) and my brain, instead of thinking of anything clever, went “AUTISTIC SWAG. THE GORLS WITH THE AUTISTIC SWAG” and before I had the chance to go “brain what the fuck does that even mean” I’d sketched a bunch of animated ladies I think are autistic wearing sunglasses with a color pallet I tried to make look like the autism flag. so. there. AUTISTIC SWAG.

as things start gearing up for Autism Acceptance Month I am going to make an effort to share stuff from nonverbal, high support needs, and other words for "severely" autistic people (especially from marginalized groups like autistic people of color) and I think others should too. I chose to do this because I am very deeply opposed to the way low support people have gone about destigmatizing autism.

me, I am the epitome of the white "geeky" autistic that I read about in books from specialists and historians: I had no speech delay, I'm capable of many self-maintenance tasks like hygiene and food, but I still am not independent and I struggle greatly with social situations, show repetitive behavior, and have sensory integration problems.

by making it seem like autism is just a label for quirky people that get really into tv shows, prefer small silverware, and fidget sometimes, you've come all the way back around to encouraging ignorance. you've started to push people with more disabling autistic traits into the background of your activism or even tried to pretend your activism doesn't apply to them.

obviously it's important to acknowledge and share the ways that autistic people who can speak and maintain independence still struggle immensely in a neurotypical world, because that is something the vast majority of people still don't understand. but we need to do better at emphasizing the ways people's autism affects their lives, and advocating for the rights of people with different needs than our own.

this might seem harsh to say but it really seems like some of you are ashamed to be associated with people from different parts of the autism spectrum than you. why claim the label then?

when you see someone talk about an experience you didn't have, always make an effort to learn something from it.

come together with people from all points on the autism spectrum. make friends with them and listen to their voice, whether it's spoken or not.

it is called neurodiversity for a reason. our brains are extremely diverse, and that's why it's important to make sure you are not your only source.

if you look at one person on the spectrum, even if that person is you, that is one autistic person, and you can't make claims about autism based on that person alone.

Actually both the Fire Siblings are autistic coded but Zuko is a representation of what happens when you are isolated for being unable to mask your symptoms while Azula represents someone who masks their symptoms very well but struggles with confusion and feeling isolated. In this essay I will…
