Dean's first concern is Sam. It's him he looks at.
When he throws himself between the two, he slightly pushes his brother away, putting his own body to cover him. And keeps eye contact with John, trying to avert his attention from him.
I used to think: why? Sam is bigger than both of them. He could quite easily beat the crap out of them, if he wanted. And he's quite pissed off, in that moment.
But no, baby brother is always baby brother in Dean's eyes. And there's danger threatening him, even if it's Dad.
I got sad, thinking of the emotional stress in Dean's heart, with those two, his family, fighting against each other.
does it ever kill you that as spn seasons go by, sam gets bigger, stronger and can snap into a deadly machine anytime he needs to but a single paper cut will have him turning around to look at dean like 🥺🥺🥺 and dean will react like the world as he knows it is completely falling apart because of it every. single. time.

Sam and Dean living together really gets me going.
Dean waking up to his little brother cooking him breakfast, getting handed a plate and asked how he slept.
Sam and Dean sitting close to each other as they catch up on lore or try to find a case, their knees touching under the table.
Dean cooking Sam dinner, even if he really doesn't like the food Sam eats.
Sam sneaking into Dean's bedroom at night because he can't sleep without that familiar warmth, and Dean just relishes in it because no matter how old they are ... his little brother is still his little baby.

First Sleepover- 🐥&🐣

ANYWAYS!!
Hc that sam had his first sleepover at 12 (after john rented out an actual home for 6+ months). 17 yr old dean got him ready and everything and walked him to the house. Sam called first thing the next morning to get picked up. He wont admit it but he had a nightmare and hated sleeping so far away from his brother :(
