alt to the villains au: lets make tom a supervillain lets go lads lets go

main notes: -Marinette doesn't have any memories of the OG timeline, and is totally in the dark about what her dad is up to -Adrien remembers the last timeline and in this one figures out that he's Hawkmoth/Cockmoth/Monarch/fuckface/worst father of the year -Tom also DOES NOT remember the last timeline, but deduces through Nooroo that someone caused Sabine's illness and death, and that's his motivation for supervillain'ing things up

Obvious question: Who are the heroes of the Dad Villain AU? Adrien seems anxious around the butterflies...

adrien in the dad-villain!au is going thru a special kind of bullshit in 100% knowing what marinette's situation feels like, and not being able to tell her so.

You know, its funny in villain dad au, its probably lila and Chloe who would be at each other's throats at school and Marinette isnt even involved so she can watch from a distance

Does Chloe tone down her direct bullying/harassment of Marinette after that day to just the dead mom jokes out of guilt, or is it more that Marinette now being homeschooled means Chloe just lost access? Also, does Lila try the whole lying/sabotaging thing on Marinette and just fail or does Marinette just not care?

Lila has no reason to sabotage Marinette because Marinette isn't threatening her little empire she wants to build. In fact, she really wants Marinette on her side BECAUSE she's not apart of the school, so she doesn't need to keep up an elaborate web of lies! She can just try to befriend a talented girl who makes AMAZING food and try to get freebies~

meanwhile, with Chloe, things got really complicated after the pool incident...

I'm sitting very politely and asking if it would be possible to see Adrien akumatised by Viceroy. Even if you don't want to, letting you know I'm insane about all your AUs (and your art in general, alien behaviour Shadow was so cool), you do such amazing work and I am completely normal about it

I just started following you for your Viceroy AU! My question is, why is Adrien disillusioned with his mom? Dad I can understand, but what happened with his mom?

no big arguments or anything, but Adrien got to go through the slow, dreadful realization that your kinder parent thinks you're uselessly dependent on them. (and she likes it that way.)

I'm curious, why Marinette has butterflies around her hair, is that a protection from her dad?

yup! Tom leaves gaggles of butterflies with her in case of an emergency, but its not like she knows that. As far as she knows, they're "faeries."

Maybe you’ve already gone over this, and I just missed it, but how, exactly is Tom a villain? Obviously his plan to violently stop whoever killed his wife and is targeting his daughter is, legally speaking, not great, but I don’t think he’s done anything other than put butterflies all over Paris and he’s not planning to do anything but stop Sabine’s killer.

Compared to Hawkmoth, its much more tame, but relentlessly blackmailing the most famous fuckwads in Paris so he can get information ( and collect enough money for him and Marinette to live like kings whenever she decides she wants to stop baking) isn't exactly a super upstanding thing to do. Not to mention you can possess people using an Akuma, so there's high risks for those who's refuse his "deals."

Wait does Tom saying Audrey needs to pay child support for Zoe mean she needs to pay Andre, or did Tom adopt Zoe to have an extra barrier between Chloe and Marinette?

It's both a little more simple than that, and a little more complicated, too. Essentially when Tom decided he was going to take Chloe to court for her various bullshit, he decided to look into what other shit her family might be hiding, in the hopes of adding more pressure.

(In this AU at least, I really couldn't find confirmation in any real sources) Zoe is an illegitimate child Aubrey had while in New York, and since she's such an influential person, the father figure decided to settle out of court, as trying to wrench something like child support payments or any sort of supplemental care from an asshole who's also a millionaire seemed impossible. Tom decided to make contact with Zoe and her dad in the hopes of essentially double-teaming the Mayor's family.

It's technically how Zoe and Marinette met in this AU.

A sort of "butterfly effect" (hehe) happens when Tom uses Nooroo to gather information for both their cases, leaving these two to bond on and off. Marinette at her core is still very, very wary, (as this is during the mourning process, Sabine had passed away recently during this time) but she's also kind, which strikes a chord with Zoe, who's constantly changing facades to try and appeal to those around her. It's hard to change yourself to be what someone wants if they never let slip what they want.

Because of this, we're not going to see Zoe really in this AU, as when she eventually heads back to New York with her dad, her time with Marinette has helped her try to establish her own personality with her own wants. Hanging out with a mysterious, kind baker girl who's overworked but still makes time for you does a lot for a baby lesbian, and she manages to make and keep friends.

She does send Marinette letters and emails though, and they text on and off - Zoe still harbors a crush on her, but to Marinette, Zoe is just a good friend : )

Wait a minute…papa Tom doesn’t seem too hostile towards Nathalie. Or at least she doesn’t seem nervous/blackmailed. Does Tom not know her past allegiances or…is there an alliance in play?

Viceroy employs many in his arsenal, and as far as Nathalie is concerned, Tom is a coworker. :)
