"You ever ridden a horse before?"

"Did you get thrown off?" Judging by her nervousness she probably had.
"No shame if you did. I've been thrown off more times than I can count and I've been riding since I could walk." Most people would be falling all over themselves because of who Mia was, but not Calvin.
Mia Thermopolis was just a person as far as he was concerned, a crown didn't change that.
"Come with me."

"You ever ridden a horse before?"
Calvin smiled, he could see it in the young woman's eyes, she had a soft spot for horses.
"Would you like to?" He asked, he knew just the horse to put her on and he would be right there just in case she got nervous.
He jerked his head towards the barn.
"Come on, follow me."

"You ever ridden a horse before?"

โย ย where are you taking me?ย โ ( Calvin, if you're cool with that ) @devilsdaughtcr

Calvin glanced back at Scarlett and smiled, he was pretty damn proud of himself for getting her this far, and on horseback no less.
"If I told you that it wouldn't be a surprise now would it?" Calvin said with a smirk.
"It's not far now, just follow me."
Calvin grinned and led her straight to the barn stopping to grab a bag of treats from the tack room before taking her to the last stall in the main barn.
The brown quarter horse with the white blaze stuck his head over the stall door, curious at what the humans were doing.
"This is Doc." Calvin said rubbing the horse's blaze the way he liked.
"He's the perfect horse for a beginner, you're in good hands... or I guess hooves." The joke admittedly was bad, but Calvin laughed at his own joke anyway.
"Do you want to give him a treat and say hello?"

"You ever ridden a horse before?"
"Great. Here put the treat in your hand like this and keep your fingers together and flat," Calvin showed her what he meant and held out his hand, Doc sniffed at the treat and took it from his hand.
"Let him sniff before you go to pet, that's how horses say hello, they check you out first."

"You ever ridden a horse before?"

Inspection of the troops, God that sounded so foreign!
"The barn," Calvin said shrugging when she asked about him getting up on a horse everyday. His dad had taught him and Beth to ride, and he always said to get back on after they came out of the saddle.
"Don't really have a choice, horses are the best for driving cattle and getting to the more rural parts of the property, you said your horse reared up but you didn't come off? That's great, do you know what spooked Sandy?"

"Yeah, just like that, you're doing great!" Doc was a good boy. He loved people and was the definition of a gentle giant. There was no better horse for Valerie than Doc.
"He likes you, I knew he would."

"You ever ridden a horse before?"
Calvin smirked. He couldn't help himself.
"Me or the horse?" He teased, Doc seemed captivated by Valerie. Less interested in getting another treat, which was out of character for him, and just focused on her.
"The way he's watching you, he loves people, but he's really focused on you. I'm going to grab something. Do you think you can stay here and keep Doc company?"

"You ever ridden a horse before?"

Chuckling Calvin shook his head.
"Fine. We're going to one of my favorite places, somewhere I haven't shared with many people. There, that's your hint." Doc knew the trail well, so Calvin hardly had to turn the quarter horse onto the path up the the ridge that had the best view of the property.
"Keep up, Dallas."

"No, not just a movie thing. Sometimes, the old ways are the best ways." Calvin smiled, opening the barn door for Mia.
"Horses are smart, but they are still animals. Do me a favor. The tack room is the first room on your left. Can you open the bin labeled sweet feed and get a full scoop of feed for me?"

Inspection of the troops, God that sounded so foreign!

"Good to know, I'll be right back." Doc wouldn't cause any trouble, and Calvin was only going as far as the tack room.
Grabbing the tack he needed so Valerie could ride, Calvin threw a saddle blanket over his shoulder and started back towards Doc and Valerie.
"Let me get him ready, and we'll head outside so you can ride."

"You ever ridden a horse before?"

"Are you actually speechless? Did I find a way to make Scarlett Ewing speechless?" Calvin teased as he watched her take in the view.
"This view is what I imagine they saw when they settled this property way back when, plus it's real pretty at sunset." He turned to Scarlett and smiled, he was glad he was sharing it with her.
"I like to come up here and think sometimes."

"All sorts of things, the future, the past, about what my dad would think of the job I'm doing." Calvin shrugged, he'd been eighteen when his dad had died. Beth had been a kid, Calvin had taken on the responsibility of running the family business and taking care of Beth and his mom.
"He loved our land, I just want to make him proud."

"He was amazing, a caring father, hard working. He'd give you the shirt off his back if you needed it... he taught me how to ride, I wouldn't be the man I am without him." Calvin was quiet for a moment, before collecting himself.
"What about your family? You're obviously good with horses, who taught you to ride?"

3. A kiss on the forehead

The stars out on the ridge were bright, Calvin had a tent already set up, ready for them to watch the meteor shower and enjoy their evening.
Doc was put up for the night, And Calvin came to sit next to Mia on the blanket he'd spread out for them.
"Here, I grabbed you another blanket." Calvin said draping the thick wool blanket around her shoulders, sneaking a quick kiss to Mia's forehead as he did so.
"Comfortable?"

"See you in action, huh?" Calvin said with a smile, he honestly couldn't picture the beautiful, sophisticated heiress barrel racing, or really anything that was done at a rodeo, he thought she'd be more of an English style girl.
"What's your event?"

"He was amazing, a caring father, hard working. He'd give you the shirt off his back if you needed it... he taught me how to ride, I wouldn't be the man I am without him." Calvin was quiet for a moment, before collecting himself.
