Yet another CS Whumptober Fic about Player
Summary:
In the short time Player's been imprisoned, he's already learned not to give his captors a reaction to his suffering. Unfortunately, that's not exactly possible when one of them is intent on playing a special kind of game with him, one with consequences that could kill Player.

Carmen Sandiego gets a hundred percent funnier if you remember that Player has directly heard the VAST majority of Carmen's on-heist interactions (if you don't believe me, just pay attention to the way he talks after an event. Example: "You were kind of... direct", after her lecture in Dubai implies that he heard the fight)
Carmen: you aren't really dressed for the occasion... but we'll make it work ;)

The most underused part of the entire Carmen Sandiego show and fandom is the fact that Player is canadian.
Like... Carmen walks into the kitchen at three AM to see Ivy and Zack cheering for Player, who's chugging a giant ass glass of water to a folk song.
He convinced the siblings that Canadian House Hippos existed for several months until Carmen found out and made him admit they aren't real (they ARE)
And he??? keeps walking out into snowstorms with barely any clothes to get the god damn mail for his mom and his team keeps SCREAMING about it.

Someone else has probably noticed this, but did you guys know that in Carmen Sandiego, Season 1 Episode 5, during Cleo's dinner party, you can actually see what looks like Lady Dokuso (a character introduced in the next season) dining with the other guests?
Here she is among party guests at the start of the party and, in the last image, when Agent Devineaux breaks in. You can even see her mole!
Her actual introduction (S2, Episode 3). Again note the mole on her face and attention to detail in both shots.
Player, nervous and jittery: Hey, umm... Red? I have a confession, I'm... trans. Carmen, incredibly well-being but with the ignorance of someone who grew up secluded on an island: ... like transformer? Player: Carmen: Are... are you a robot? Player, trying very hard not to laugh:
Carmen: Why are you holding Player up by his armpits like a disgruntled cat? Ivy: He's in air jail for crimes

Summary:
Coarse ropes bite into Player’s skin, cloth fabric covers his eyes. His bindings are tough, knotted by expert, practiced hands. He’s not the first person they’ve done this to, and if history repeats itself, he will not be the last. Some have escaped, others haven’t, but both were far more skilled than Player. He’s no operative, he’s no trained thief, he’s a tiny, scrawny little hacker, and he’s- “Oh, calm down, Player!” He squawks as an arm wrap around his neck, inhibiting his ability to breathe as his attacker drags him closer. “You’re being so dramatic!” -Been kidnapped. By his own friends.

Player, after Crackle betrays Carmen: He is not the love of your life! He is just some guy!

Ivy: Can we PLEASE keep Player? Carmen: No, we cannot keep him. Zack: But Player's perfect! He's smart and friendly and- Carmen: He HAS parents! People who have legal custody of him. Ivy, scoffing: Since when has that stopped you before? Carmen: Carmen: I am not participating in this conversation.
One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just doesn't belong.
Paperstar: Hey, wake up. Player: Wha- what?! Paperstar: I just murdered your entire family Player: ... my parents are out tonight? Paperstar: Then who are these people in your house!? Player: THERE'S PEOPLE IN MY HOUSE!?
