mostly inspired by my own experiences at british schools in creepy old buildings
edwin would 100% become the school ghost story, but over time it always becomes a haunted bathroom story. i have no idea why, but in my experience the ghost is always in the bathroom. like, sure, my primary school had a weird clock tower above the nursery, but the girls bathroom was the place people said was haunted. yeah, the sixth form had the lavender lady, but the weird room lined wall-to-wall with mirrors and sinks in the boarding house was WAY more haunted than the attic.
people would still tell his story, but it would become botched and i think they would claim he lives in the bathroom instead of the cellar

Charles really said "she's a lot like you, maybe that's why I like her so much" while making THAT face, and "the answer's gotta be somewhere inside that brain of yours" while gently tapping Edwin's temple, and "they won't separate us" and "I'm not leaving you", and he kept being frustrated and jealous by every one of Edwin's love interests, and that slutty little "my smile can be prETTy convincing", and being overprotective of Edwin, and comparing them to Orpheus and Eurydice, and all this just so that he could stand on the stairs of hell, gently caressing Edwin's collar bones with his thumbs and saying "i can't really say im IN love with you".

ok so with the frat bros having their bloody eye things and having to concentrate to appear "normal" brings up so many questions about the natural state of ghosts (just one main one really), are they all like that?
does charles still have to concentrate on bad days to regain the control of his shaking hands from phantom chills? does edwin ever have to excuse himself from conversations before people see his flesh start to peel and disintegrate? does charles ever pile blanket upon blanket on top of himself in a futile attempt to feel just marginally warmer? does edwin ever feel himself burn from the chest up, fires glowing underneath his skin, making it luminecent?
What if I was a repressed gay ghost from 1916 and I confessed my love for you on the Stairway To Hell™️ and you made an Orpheus and Eurydice reference and you admitted you're not in love with me back but a secret third thing (so devoted the lines blur) and told me we had an eternity to figure out what that means for us and that we're still best mates just like we've been for the last 30+ years. 10 minutes in the first episode of dead boy detectives and these bitches are already avoiding death not because they want to stay in the word of the living or are afraid of the unknown but because they don't want to be separated.
On these grounds I believe I'm about to be ruined by them, but I'll keep watching and let you know for sure
