M*A*S*H 4077 During Covid
Hawkeye is going stir-crazy being stuck and isolated. His contributions to the “socially distanced” movement include a long-range alcohol distiller that can dispense two drinks six feet apart, a card-dealing machine that can deal the cards from a safe distance (while also giving him an upper hand in what cards he wants, shh), and socially distanced pranks (sorry Frank)
Trapper gets so desperate that he makes a full-body condom complete with a filtered breathing hole to ensure no sickness. Nothing stands between this man and his favourite activity. Nothing.
BJ is writing home all the time to check how Peg and the kids are doing – he’s so concerned whenever one of them gets sick that Hawkeye has had to physically tied him to his bed to stop him from pacing around the Swamp
Frank is absolutely an antivaxxer and conspiracy theorist. Seriously, you can trick him into believing anything. He does, however, loves the new rules and regulations and enforces them whenever possible (though Hawkeye always gets under his skin enough to get Frank in trouble of almost breaking social distancing). When he gets the weakest possible case of Covid, he absolutely believes he is dying and begs Margaret to nurse him back to health
Margaret is stressed to the max – she is overworked, overtired, and somehow has decided that she needs to master 16 different lockdown hobbies before the new normal despite having even less time than before
Donald Penobscot claims to have gotten vaccinated before he comes to visit Margaret, but he’s deathly afraid of needles. When Margaret finds out about his lie, she finally has an excuse to stab him (for medical reasons only of course – not like she is taking out any emotional frustration…)
Winchester has read every single research paper on Covid and is quick to correct anyone who states a fact possible wrong. Seriously, this man insists on rewriting all of the rules every time a new research paper comes out. Hawkeye and BJ pretend to be conspiracy theorist for a while just to drive him mental
Colonel Potter believes that perhaps this lockdown and social distancing will finally allow him to get some peace and quiet. And then he remembers that he is a doctor. And now he apparently has to start locking the Ivermectin for his horse because some idiot is trying to steal it (or whatever the 1950 equivalent is since it was only invented in 1975)... He is currently considering telling Mildred that he will be retiring early
Henry Blake freaks out the moment he hears about the pandemic. He can’t even imagine all the paperwork that will need to be created (Radar’s already made copies and labelled them), the protocols that need to be put in place (Radar’s drafts are simply pending approval via Henry’s signature), and not to mention that his alcohol supply is already running terribly low (Radar has been hiding away some to ration Henry’s drinking, but thankfully he thought ahead to order more before the supply chain completely gave out)
Father Mulcahy is currently broadcasting Sunday mass over the PA system. It’s not his favourite medium for liturgy but at least it’s something. He is getting concerned about how he suddenly needs between locks for the ceremonial wine compared to usual though…
Klinger pulls schemes twice a day insisting that he has Covid – but not just any Covid! This strain is deadly, so deadly that the only cure can be found in Toledo, Ohio. When he does get Covid, he is asymptomatic and just stuck in insolation for two weeks (at least he has more time to work on his dresses…)
Radar is definitely freaking out. He’s not sure whether he should wear a hazmat suit or if his bear needs to be the one wearing it. He’s trying to keep the camp in order, but this is definitely not making things easier
Zale suggests every type of “Covid prevention” practice you can think of (he definitely tried to steal Colonel Potter’s Ivermectin). As for them working though, well… the doctors have requested someone watch his actions 24/7 because they are sick of seeing him and his new medical emergency
Colonel Flag is an antivaxxer. Actually, no, that’s just a cover for him to infiltrate the antivaxxer society and learn what their motives are (for what is anyone’s game, really). Except, no, he’s just trying to get chummy with the doctors and trick them into revealing what they are really putting the vaccines. Only, no, he’s actually…
Sidney is observing the madness from a distance, sighing, and stating that this is seems like a normal reaction for the M*A*S*H 4077 to be having
In the spirit of all these creature related asks, I would like to posit (i hope that's the right word) that Charles Winchester is in fact a pallas cat

Literally the same pictures. I am weeping. Anon how does it feel to be correct about everything important in the world?

0.02 seconds later….

Charles, you could only run from your girldad future for so long.

Charles you are the worst (positive; affectionate)
It’s not that Charles never touches people
He pats Hawkeye on the knee when he’s being condescending in Fallen Idol, he briefly touches Hawkeye’s arm when he says “Why are you so unfeeling about my feelings?” in The Light That Failed, he attempts to help Margaret off the jeep in Comrades in Arms but BJ gets there first
In Dear Sis when he opens the toboggan cap he pats Radar’s cheek, pats Mulcahy on the back then puts his hands on Mulcahy’s shoulders
Kisses Margaret’s hair while pretending to comfort her over a prank he’s pretending he didn’t take part in (An Eye for a Tooth), puts his hand on Colonel Baldwin’s shoulder before he says “I have groveled”
A quick touch to Klinger’s arm in Potter’s office in the beginning of They Call the Wind Korea, yet in the next episode (Major Ego) Klinger pats his shoulder and Charles says “Never touch me again” (really, Klinger ought to have smacked him)
He likes to nudge people forward – the reporter in Major Ego, Hawkeye in Bombshells, BJ in Bless You, Hawkeye, Kellye in Too Many Cooks although that last one might be merely a gesture and not a touch, he also dances with Kellye in That’s Show Biz
In The Party he touches Klinger’s back during one of the attempts to set a date and he pats Radar at the end, he also pats Radar in Rally Round the Flagg, Boys. In Ain’t Love Grand he only touches Sooni a little but he puts his hands on Klinger’s shoulders. He touches Lt. Park (Guerrilla My Dreams) on the shoulder and the Congressional Aide in Are You Now, Margaret
He gives Hawkeye a little nudge in Yessir, That’s Our Baby and he grabs his wrist when they’re arguing in Follies of the Living. Despite the emotional intimacy of Sons and Bowlers the only touching in that episode is Hawkeye giving him that shoulder nudge during the bowling game, which he also does in The Young and the Restless. (The blocking in Sons and Bowlers is a topic for another post, I think). Then we have the hug in Temporary Duty, drunk!Charles taking him by the hand in Peace on Us, and falling on him in Settling Debts and Follies.
In the finale he kisses Margaret’s hand and obviously we see him kiss Martine and Donna. And Donna says something interesting. “The whole thing was your idea from the beginning. You kept walking around saying ‘I can’t keep my hands off this angel. Somebody marry us before it’s too late.’ Mako Nakamura married us just to shut you up.” The implication is that if he were sober he wouldn’t have any trouble keeping his hands off her, since he isn’t he’s not only having trouble, he’s recognizing it’s wrong and annoying the whole party with it.
I think it’s safe to say people touch him more than the other way around – see Margaret’s lip peck in Say No More, this bit with Hawk in Foreign Affairs, etc.

a kiss to the back of the hand (Charles/Leonidas(OC))
Valentines Day, 1951. Leonidas had been trying for a while to be able to get the affections of the new surgeon in town, one Charles Winchester. Despite everyone telling him that Charles is a stuck up prick who Leonidas shouldn't bother with, he still wants to try. He feels like it's love at first sight, even if he doesn't fully believe in it. His friend Ilya has been telling him to just go for it, but it's tough when you have to live with the guy.
It was getting close to when the sun is setting and Leonidas doesn't know what to do. He's tried all day to get an idea of what to give Charles, but it all failed horribly. The flowers didn't come in from the local he bought them from (he's sure he was scammed), the chocolate didn't arrive from Seoul.. he doesn't know what else to try to get the affection from Charles. He wants it to be perfect, a man like Charles deserves only the best from a courtier.
Though something stops Leonidas.. doesn't Charles not like immigrants? Leonidas panics but he decides to just go for it. As he gathers his courage, the object of his affection walks through the door.
"Mylonas." Charles says, voice flat as he goes to his cot to take off his boots. Leonidas takes a breath and comes closer, standing next to the chair by Charles's desk.
"Major Winchester.. may I speak frankly?" Leonidas asks. He's met with a curt nod from Charles. he takes a breath and speaks again. "I.. I tried all day to get your attention and I feel like now is as good a time as any." he says. "Do you want to be my Valentine?" he asks, closing his eyes and bracing for the worst…
But it doesn't seem to come. He can feel his hand wrapped in the manicured hand of Charles and a small kiss is pressed to his hand. Leonidas opens his eyes and looks at Charles, eyes widening.
"It is rather late for it, Mylonas. But I suppose I can indulge you." Charles says. He looks at the clock, a rare smile on his face. "Even if it is for only an hour."
Leonidas smiles widely and he feels his heart start to flutter. He's one step closer to securing this man for himself, and he can't wait to see what happens now.

| 53. “I love you and I am terrified.” (Charles/Leonidas(OC))
Leonidas stands in front of Charles in the Swamp with a few tears in his eyes. He had just heard that Charles never really cared for him from a nurse in Post-Op when he was helping Hawkeye with his rounds. He was confronting Charles about it, who's acting like he has no idea what Leonidas is talking about. Charles stands from his desk, putting a hand out to placate his lover. "Leonidas-"
"Why are you acting like you don't know anything!?" Leonidas asks, clearly a little angry. "The nurse told me that you told her everything I heard right to her face! She said she heard it from you, I don't think she has any reason to lie to me!"
"Leonidas, dear.." Charles says, clearly trying to calm Leonidas down. "I really do not know what you are talking about, my dear.."
"The nurse told me that you never really loved me. Was all of this just an act? Taking pity on the immigrant boy!?" Leonidas asks, tears falling down his face. "Was she right, did you never really love me?" He chuckles, bringing a hand up to wipe his eye. "I don't know why I thought it would be any different, you're a Winchester, of course you wouldn't-"
"I love you!" Charles says suddenly, surging forward and taking Leonidas's hand. "I do love you.." He repeats, looking at Leonidas with a soft look in his eyes. "But.. I am terrified." Leonidas pauses, looking at him with a confused look in his eye
"Terrified..?" Leonidas asks. "Why would you be terrified, I love you, Charles.. I'm not pulling the wool over your eyes on this." He says, stepping closer. "I have never lied to you and I won't ever start."
"You know I have an image to uphold back in Boston, I.. was just terrified that somehow news of you and me.. of us would make it back to Boston and my parents would figure it out." Charles explains. "I do love you, Leonidas, I do.. You know how my parents are, how my father is with people like you.. people like us."
Leonidas comes closer and cups Charles's cheek in his hand, his other hand still linked with Charles's. "I know how your father is.. And I honestly couldn't care less. I have you and you have me.. that's all we really need in this life. You don't have to be terrified, Charles, because you have me.." He says, smiling softly.
Charles looks down at Leonidas, just staring down at his lover. He eventually starts to smile, rubbing his thumb on Leonidas's hand. "I do have you, my dear.. And I am glad to have you in my life." He admits. Leonidas smiles as he hears Charles's words, he knows that he's the only one who can make Charles soft like this.
"Now come on. Let's get to bed. I'm exhausted after Post-Op duty and I know you've got first shift in the morning after BJ." Leonidas says, remembering the schedule that says Charles had to take over from BJ at seven in the morning. The two change and Leonidas convinces Charles to stay in his bed for the night. They fall asleep with each other in their arms, happy in their piece of Korea that's all theirs.

Winchester’s got the hot hand, huh? He should. He’s wearing all our gloves.
